Titanic - So many people told me I would love this movie, even friends of mine that don't like chick flicks, told me I would love this movie. Everyone that told me I'd like it, I told them 'Nah, I hate chick flicks... they bore me to tears every time'... But they told me 'nah it isnt just a chick flick, you'll really love it, everyone loves it.' I hadn't heard one negative review of the movie from any of my friends. The final straw was when my uncle, the stereotypical man's man... he's a mechanic and he says stuff like 'pain only hurts til it goes away', told me the movie was great. My aunt told me he cried at this movie! I couldn't even picture this guy crying. So finally I decided to see it. I took the gf, and she was all happy that i finally agreed to see it... I have never walked out of a movie but this was the first time I ever wanted to... but I couldn't because my gf was sitting there soaking up this POS movie. About 5 minutes after they got on the boat I began chanting over and over in my head 'sink, sink, sink, sink' cuz I figured after that this damn thing would end and I could leave... 3 hours... it felt like 3 years. To this day I hold a grudge against every single person that told me I would like this movie, and when they reccomend a movie to me I respond with 'yeah, and you told me Titanic was going to be great too'

I'm still bitter at all of those old High School fuckrags who told me that Crocodile Dundee was a good film. (I guess I'm showing my age there.)

Another one is Mulholland Drive. I've heard nothing but praise about this film, but I was really disappointed. I guess I'm just an idiot, but I really couldnt' make heads or tales of this flick.

American Pie: Hated the first one. Can't understand its popularity. I liked the sequel though.

Rush Hour: I'm still punishing my buddy for THAT one.

xXx: Same buddy, same results.

LOTR: Fellowship: Hated it at first. Was mad as hell for being tricked into seeing it. But it later grew on me.

Moulin Rouge - I need plot, a decent plot which is executed well. If it is re-hash...do it in a good way...I guess I am just not hip with the times. I used to be with "it", but then they changed what "it" was, and I was no longer with "it", and what became "it" was strange and frightening to me...it will happen to you! Needed a Simpsons reference somewhere today...anyway I no longer respect my friend Candace for recommending that pile of shit

Panic Room: Fincher at his BEST!
The Game: Fincher does it AGAIN!
The Beyond: Fulci is a GOD!
Gates of Hell: Fulcis images give me NIGHTMARES!
Rush Hour: Chan & Tucker are HILARIOUS!
Jeepers Creepers: HOLY SHIT!!!!! SCARY FLICK!

While (I) however, YAWNED :o

Fight Club is the only one I could think of. I'M usually the one recommending, not my friends.

But they all saw Fight Club before me and raved about it (like 99% of you Schmoes do) and I ended up hating it (though it's grown slightly on me since my 5th viewing).

Ditto, for sure.

Another example for me is Very Bad Things. Everyone told me to see it but I hated it.

Yep, I'm totally in agreement Calf.

Add to that...

-My Big Fat Greek Wedding (I don't remember a thing about it)
-Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (I do like Snatch though)
-Vanilla Sky (Godawful)
-The Royal Tenenbaums (Not horrible, just over-hyped)
-Panic Room (???)
-Thirteen Ghosts (My friends must be shooting up or something)

Hey BCV,
Is Lock-Stock really that bad? I recently watched Snatch and loved it and was thinking of checking Lock-Stock out. How does it compare?

The Blair Witch Project - Scary, eh? Mmmmm........ no. Complete waste of time.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - Ok, maybe it didn't suck, but after all the crap I heard about this film I expected much, much, more.

Love, Honour & Obey - Someone gave me a loan of this and told me it was good... quite possibly the worst film I've ever seen.

Everyone told me how great 8 Mile was and I can see it's a good quality film, just a really boring, good quality film

Moulin Rouge is another all my mates and family love - i really didnt like that one :(

I think my friends scare easily, they've recommended: Blair Witch Project and Long Time Dead as really scary

Gladiator

I actually bought the dvd without having seen the movie based on everyone telling me how great it was. Then my wife and I watched it and we both agreed that it's one of the most overrated pieces of crap we'd ever seen. The acting ranged from mundane (Russell Crowe) to downright awful (Joaquin Phoenix). The CGI was clumsy. I've seen better animal/creature effects in old Ray Harryhousen movies. The directing was awkward and derivative and the overall style made me think of Sam Raimi on crack.

To this day, I have no clue how it won an Academy Award for Best Picture. But then, I seem to have that reaction to a lot of movies that win that award (like The English Patient, which I thought was a decent story that could have easily been told in an hour but which stretched out for an interminably long time).

Wow, you thought phoenix was awful? I thought he was the best part of the movie, and his performance in that role made him one of my favourite actors. He got nominated for an oscar for that role I believe, and IMO he should have won it.

The only one I could think of right now was War Zone. Our fellow Schmoe Notchreturns recommended it to me and it ended up being one of the worst movies I've ever seen

THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT: There's 90 minutes of my life I can never get back.

THE APOSTLE: Same as above, but even more minutes.

Heard great things about both, so stuck it out to the bitter end for each...hoping that eventually they'd get better. Nope.

Well, almost everyone on this site has (more or less) recommended this movie, and I respect you all, so:

The Shawshank Redemptio

Not the worst movie I have ever seen, but the most "Hollywood". Pure Tripe, through and through.
