This is my favorite slasher and it's canadian Arrow !!! !
It is entertaining, scary, violent, atmospheric.
I care about the main characters, too.
The killer's outfit is also very good and impressive ( not it's not ridiculous ! )
Sorry I can't see Black Xmas 'cause it is unfoundable in my country.
9/10

When i rented My Bloody Valentine I didn't expect too much. But after i finished watching it i was pleasently surprised. It was very good. I just wish they'd release it uncut.

MY BLOODY VALENTINE (1981) Directed by George Mihalka. One of the better post-HALLOWEEN slashers concerning a vengeful psycho in in a miner’s mask who stalks the citizen’s of Valentine’s Bluff on the title holiday, removing their hearts with a pickaxe. PROS: sharp cinematography; a decent subplot involving a love triangle among the three leads (Paul Kelman, Lori Hallier and Neal Affleck); a surprising revelation of the killer’s identity; several effective and scary chase sequences; a mean-spirited murderer in a cool costume (obviously a stunt man in a miner’s costume until the finale); one pretty original kill in the town’s laundromat; and two great “final girls” (Hallier and gal pal Cynthia Dale), both babelicious as Sarah and Patty (great early 80’s Scream Queen names!). CONS: Stereotypical, annoying supporting characters; weak acting and Canadian accents that come and go among some of the players (especially that sheriff!); a corny Valentine’s Day party held in the mine shaft recreation room!; a shaky score by the usually brilliant Paul Zaza of PROM NIGHT fame; and mediocre direction from Mihalka. My overall grade: B

I bought this movie without watching, it was cool, but not as I expected after looking at the cover and pictures on the back.
Another CONS: The cheesy song at the end. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I love My Bloody Valentine . I first saw it at the cinema on a double bill with The Funhouse ( a great Tobe Hooper film) and again several times in the years to come because it seemed to be the second feature to every other 80s horror movie .Oh yeah ,love the song.

This is truely another awesome low budget 80's slasher flicks, one of the best along with the Prowler and The Burning.
Amazed they never made a sequel.

I actually DIDN'T like this movie. I went into it expecting to be scared for about 90 minutes, but found myself asleep about 40 minutes along the way. It was INCREDIBLY boring & the characters were weak. I thought the killer's LOOK was inventive (along with his M/O), yet we didn't see enough of "Harry Warden" & what we DID see was TERRIBLY cliche. It just disappointed my on nearly every level, and I like just about EVERY slasher! It wasn't as bad as I'm making it, but certainly not that great. Like I said, it LITERALLY put me to sleep.

I read somewhere on the net that the producer of of the 1st one has written a script for pt 2 and its supposed to be made. From what I've read the Honnicker Mine in the sequel is supposed to be to turned into a amusement park style thrill ride. I assume "Harry" is still in the mine.

really king, i dont know why, but that doesnt seem like such a terrible idea, i really enjoyed the first one for some reason, sure it was a little slow, but when it got 1/2 through it got great, still an good movie, that still has some spooky moments, too bad it didnt get a sequel. boo on that fact, boo.

Bump to the top to get more opinions.
Just watched this one for the first time tonight and I was very pleasantly surprised. Great costumed killer, unique enough storyline, likeable characters, and some good shots.
Biggest drawback was definitely the constantly changing accents Antonio mentions. I was aboot to eject the dvd at one point.

i dug My Bloody Valentine, its definitely one of the most entertaining slasher flicks ive seen, the acting is pretty good, the story is more interesting than most slasher film plots and it moves along at a nice pace...also the direction is pretty damn good too

I agree that MBV is the most underrated film of the slasher era!

My Bloody Valentine 2
Original-film director George Mihalka had an in-depth interview with the folks at the terror trap, where he revealed small details on the sequel. The story picks up with Sarah now the sheriff of Valentine Bluffs, where she and T.J. are married and they've had a few sons of their own. The town has turned the old mine into a carnival attraction complete with a Mine of Terror thrill ride.
Producer John Dunning is referring to it as "The Return of the Miner", of course a tentative title. George Mihalka will be involved in the film (possibly direct). They're interested in getting the original cast back. Nearly 10-minutes of footage was cut in the original film and there are plans to have dream/flashback sequences that will incorporate the footage.
The above title is only the "working" title. Producer John Dunning is also co-writing the script. The original producers John Dunning and André Link are also producing this sequel to the 1981 slasher.
I am looking forward to this If it gets off the ground---heres to it!

I own the DVD and I really like the movie. The story and backstory s one of the better ones as far as slashers go. My only complaint is that I wish more time was given to why the killer did what they did, instead of the ten second flashback. But overall, it's a beautifully shot, competently acted movie and I watch it every Valentine's Day.

Again, it's maybe the third time I write it but this is my favorite slasher of all time.
I hope the uncut version will be released...maybe some day but I think I am too gullible.

I too share the same enthusiasm about this flick. I am patiently waiting for more news about the sequel. Seems like the idea has been floating around for years. That sounds really good though that the original crew should be back for the most part. I am almost sure that it will be straight to video considering the gap between movies and the general public not knowing about this hidden gem.

Really great 80s slasher flick without being nearly as cheesy as most of the films floating around at that time. I need to watch this one again. I'm hoping that something comes of this sequel but I have yet to hear any further news comfirming it's development. Has anybody? Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Yeah and by a supposedly whopping ten minutes. That is a great chunk of movie we have all been missing. I would actually buy another version of this if they had it uncut. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Moves along at a nice pace?!? Sorry Cronos, I've got to disagree with you on that one. The pace was excruciatingly slow. It made me want to claw my eyes out. A few suspenseful set-pieces was all it had going for it. The acting was pretty terrible also and the Canadian accents were unbearable.
I don't get it, but I also didn't see this one when I was younger so I don't have any childhood/teen memories attached to it.

This is one of my favorite slashers. There I said it. It's got that corny 80's B-movie atmosphere, decent gore (though I want an uncut version more than anything else!), average acting (alright some of them are atrocious but others do a good job so it evens out), and one hell of a fun story. I mean, they play off the Valentine's thing so perfectly. It uses the atmosphere of a great horror movie and adds pink and purple hearts. I mean, you seriously can't make this shit up! With each viewing I grow to love this film more and more. The characters aren't groundbreaking, but the events alone put this film ahead of most other slashers.
This gets a BIG 8/10 from me!
