Just wondering if anybody else reads this magazine. For those who never heard of it I'll describe: It bills itself as a magazine dealing with Horror in Culture and Entertainment. They cover the newest releases and rereleases in film, books, comics, art, collectibles etc. The never tend to cover just one sub-genre either. They pay as much attention to new releases as they do to classics, foreign films, extreme gore, indie, soft core and basically any other category you can think of. The writers are all rather intelligent and the paper quality and graphics are top notch. Way better than Fangoria and Wicked(is this still published?) and actually cheaper too.
It comes out every two months and it's not always easy to find. I'm thinking of getting a subscription.
A great way to find out about what's out there in our favorite field.
I realize all my praise seems like I work for the mag but I just think everyone on the boards would really enjoy it. Latest issue features a big article on House of a 1000 Corpses.

That's awesome, man. It's always great to know that genre fans are enjoying the mag. I try to remain unbiased about which horror mag I enjoy...I've got almost EVERY FANGO, and I've still got a subscription, but I think I may cancel it...they're kinda ruining their reputation as a horror mag by CONSTANTLY giving those shitty Hollywood horror films (DAKNESS FALLS, FEAR DOT COM, GHOST SHIP, etc.) cover stories.
I'm happy to be a part of the RUE MORGUE family. The mag takes the genre as seriously as I do, and covers all aspects of horror, as Jaff stated.
Rod loves to hear this kind of stuff, so if anyone else has any comments, please post 'em! Until then, happy reading!!!

I don't see what's so blasphemous about Fangoria giving the cover story to a "Hollywood horror film." Covering the entire spectrum of the genre includes covering mainstream fare. And they've always covered mainstream horror. I mean, I'm sure that Freddy and Jason stole the cover a few times in the '80s. Were they not considered to be mainstream icons? Granted, I have yet to check out an issue of Rue Morgue, so I can't honestly say which magazine is superior, but I've heard way too many people complain that Fangoria has sold out by only covering popular flicks. It just isn't true.

Exactly. Fangoria covers horror flicks from around the world. I gotta give them a hand for having an excellent article on GMK which was very detailed. Fango gives Godzilla the respect he deserves.
I read Rue Morgue every time I go to Tower Records. It's pretty good. In this issue, they cover House of 1,000 Corpses.

I know FANGO covers all sorts of horror movies, but they always have some 4-5 page article on some really crumby movie and a 2 page article on something way better. Plus I just feel like a dingus when I'm in public reading Fango and people can see the shitty covers they have...it just seems like they're STILL trying to sell the magazine to 11 year olds. Another MAJOR beef I have with Fango is that they CONSTANTLY CONSTANTLY CONSTANTLY have spoilers in their articles. Here, I am presented with a major dilemma: Do I read the articles and possibly spoil the movie? Or do I wait to see the movie, have it turn out to be totally shitty and no longer be interested in reading the articles on the film. It sucks. Sometimes you can't even AVOID the spoilers because they slap it on the front cover or they post pics in the mag that give shit away just so they can throw a bunch of gore shots for the kids.
Anyhow, I think Fango has the right idea, but over the past decade or so, I kinda feel it's lost the heart that it once had.

They are terrible with spoilers. Revealing The Creeper in all of his glory months before the film was even released was a bad idea. But I'll have to disagree with you about giving lengthy articles to shoddy flicks. It goes without saying that quality is subjective, but I've seen many independent features get 5-7 pages. Just off the top of my head, Cookers and Samhain were given more attention than the latest Hellraiser flick. A wise move, I say.

I love Rue Morgue. Fangoria is a mag that I sometimes just read while standing in the store, but I've bought the last 3 issues of Rue Morgue since I discovered it and plan on getting a subscription. Fangoria usually has more exclusive photos of upcoming movies, but Rue Morgue is superior in every other way, and if they devoted more space to major photos, they would probably lose alot in the way of more important aspects.
That's cool that you work for them, Lord Crumb; what do you do?

I see what Lord Crumb is saying about Fangoria. how they whore out all the big name Genre films on the cover and focus less on the smaller films. I love Fangoria but the covers are cheesy. Rue Mourge has impressed me so far with the attention to small details and showing an overall passion for the horror genre. I love both magazines but if I had to choose between them i'm afraid I would go with Rue.

Yeah, Lord Crumb,
What do you do for RM? It must be a great place to work. A friend of mine just visited the offices. He's one half of Zombi, a Goblin influenced electronic-prog band you should all check out. But anyway, he said that everyone was really cool and that you could tell everyone was really into their job. I'd love to work there myself. Any idea about what sort of schooling one would need to get hired Lord Crumb?
I REALLY need an excuse to move to Toronto. I fall in love with that city a little more each time I visit.

Rue Morgue Rocks! Then again, I am one of thier writers so I am a little biased but Lord Crumb and I came to meet them because we were huge fans of the mag. It was the only publication I truly read from cover to cover, including the audio reviews! So keep reading folks, RUE MORGUE LOVES YOU!

Zombi! Yeah, my buddy Chris (from Meridian Music) brought them over to do a show at The Reverb (i think). I didn't make it out due to that day being VERY busy...Yeah, the office is pretty awesome (I assume Chris took you there?). As for MY job, I'm the webmaster, so I work from home (I go to the office about once a week or so). I also go to some of the conventions with them to plug the magazine along with SKINJOB. The only guys who actually work at the office are the editors (Rod and MaryBeth), the producer (Marco Pecota - A.K.A. QUESTO) and the art director (Gary). It's a fabulous place with an awesome environment and the friendliest people in Toronto. As for getting a job THERE, there's not much of a chance, seeing as only the head honchos work there. The only thing I could suggest is inquiring about being a writer (if you do that kind of thing and have experience). So take something in journalism or writing, I suppose...

Lord Crumb,
I wasn't actually there. The band was and I heard about it afterwards. Sounds like you have a fun gig. The new website looks awesome by the way. Well, I'll soon have a degree in fiction writing and Film studies so maybe I have a shot. But, the fact that you don't have to work at the office sort of ruins my plans to have an excuse to move to Toronto. Maybe I'll play for the Leafs or something. ;)
