Ok I know hes stearing a bit away from Horror, with making films like Spider-man and its innevitable sequel, but lets not forget all the other incredible contributions this fine director has made to the horror genre.
He can go from straight horror stuff like the first Evil Dead to extremely gory slap stick horror like Evil Dead II. Lets not forget what a big contrubution Evil Dead II has been to the horror genre. Then he goes ahead and does a serious horror film like The Gift and the incredibly well acted A Simple Plan showing us how much his matured as a filmaker.
Hes also done a really rare film that Ive been trying to get a hold off with no success. Its called Criemwave anyone seen this excellent slap stick comedy film? Its one of his least known films but deserves to be mentioned cause its a really fun film to watch, though a bit silly at times.
I do wish that he would return to his horror roots though. It would be cool to see an Evil Dead IV.
Anyhows, Im sure a lot of you here appreciate his line of work right? What do you like about his films? What do you hate? Wich is you favorite? I wanna know!
Spacemonkey Outta here! :D

By golly, I like Sam Raimi. I think he's an extremely talented guy with an extreme amount of potential. I thought that The Gift was a great movie, and that was before I found out that he directed it.
Although the Evil Dead trilogy rocks the free world, I'm uncertain about a #4. I mean, what is there left to do? I think the series is fine with where it's at.
Also, I thought Spider-man was okay, but it's a really over-exaggerated movie. And on top of that, I hate guys who wear tights.

Yes,he is very talented and I love his movies. My favourite has gotta be Evil Dead II. I mean he has some suspense, good gore and he mixes the scares with laughter. And that is a hard thing to combine.

Raimi's non-horror outings have impressed me as much as his horror films. "Spider-Man" is the perfect comic book movie, and "A Simple Plan" was phenominal. The only one I haven't seen is that baseball movie he directed with Kevin Costner. Let's see, Costner ... sports .... Nope, two strikes against it that even the presence of Raimi can't make up for. :(
But anyway, "The Evil Dead" remains my favorite Raimi movie, and is one of my all-time favorite horror movies.

Hey Nightwatchman, I havent seen For Love of the Game either, even though I love Sam Raimis work I do have my limits, Kevin Costner and baseball, just arent my thing.
On the other hands films like Darkman, I enjoy a whole lot!
I guess you could say Darkmans where Raimi showed his love for comic book films, cause lets face it thats exactly what it is a comic book film. A well done comic film I might add, with its dash of tragic characters and romanticism.
As for an Evil Dead IV I think theres still something left to be said. After all the book was never destroyed and theres still the possibility of someone using it to resurrect ancient demons...I guess it would also kick ass to see Raimi do a fourth dead film and see what he can do with it now that his so much more experienced in filmmaking...
So anyone know what Im talking about when I say Crimewave? Heres the poster for it...its a preatty cool flick with a city under chaos. A deathrow prisoners retells the misadventures that lead to his incarceration...Its got a bunch of crazy characters and funny situations. I mean in what other movie would you see a rat exterminator who uses electrical amplifiers to electrocute human beings? Its a hilarious film, check it out shcmoes! I really liked what sam Raimi did with this picture! Its fun times! Anyone know what Im talking about?

Yeah i've seen that film (years and years ago) - it's really funny!! I had no idea that it was Sam Raimi that directed it!
My favourite Raimi film just has to be The Evil Dead.

Crimewave may be the worst film ever made! Bruce admits it himsself. Sam Raimi is the man when it comes to innovations. I did not like The Gift, Simple Plan or Darkman, but every Evil Dead is awesome. You guys who think he was into horror are wrong. The only reason Sam made horror was because that was one genre that him and Bruce could make a student film out of. Before that they made crime and drama super 8 films etc. Read Bruce Campbell's book, it explains a lot of Sam Raimi's career. Reminds me of Peter Jackson who went from Bad Taste and Dead Alive to crap like LOTR

Delfonic, its just a fun movie to watch. Not the best ever made, but when you see it, you know its defenetly a Sam Raimi flick. Hes style is there.
Its just a completely weird film, that Im sure not many people will like. But hey im just saying I liked its goofyness.
As for the best Sam Raimi picture for me its all about Evil Dead II.
I know its probably unanimous. Love this flick from beginning to end. Nothing wrong with it. It has too many cool moments and too many cool effects to pass up as just an ordinary roll of the mill horror movie. This ones a true modern day classic!!!
And this dude here has got to be one of my all time favorite make up effects.

by golly count. Darkman rules. I dont really think i've seen all of the The Evil Dead I need to rerent it. I did enjoy Evil Dead II. Crimewave looks entertaining and i'm very easily amused (say penis and i'll start to bust a gut :D)
I still gotta see A Simple Plan and The Gift
Never did really care for Army Of Darkness
Oh, I dont think he had anything to do with them but Darkman 2 and 3 arent very good. 3 is passable, and 2 is one of the worst films ever made.
Oh, and I did enjoy Spider Man.

Yeah, I did see "Crimewave," years and years ago. I remember liking it, although not because I found it funny, but because it appealled to my sense of the absurd. I recall it as sort of like a Monty Python film noir.
I've love to see it again, but I think it's been out of print for decades.

Bruce Campbell tends to denigrate his work; he tends to over-exaggerate its failings.

Darkman kicks alot of ass! I remember seeing it in the theatre as a young teen and being blown away. It was years before I connected Sam to that film and it still has a small place in my heart *sniff* *tear*....
Hmmm I like most of Raimis body of work. The Gift showed that he still had a firm handle on how to scare people. I mean he made Keanu Reeves scary. thats a feat all on its own.
With a Simple Plan he showed he could make a dramatic thriller and not have it go straight to video. Another great classic.
The Evil Dead Trilogy, I can't say any more praise that wasn't heaped on these before.
Same with spiderman ... see above statement
For Love of the game... Sorry had to boycott this one due to it having Kevin Costner and being about baseball. I'm sure it was good in a fuzzy sort of way.

Although I thought Spider-Man was a good film, I would wish Sam went back to horror - it would be great seeing an Evil Dead 4 at the cinemas.
My favourite Sam Raimi films are (shockingly) The Evil Dead Trilogy, but to narrow it down: Evil Dead 2 is my favourite Sam Raimi film.

Night watchman, its true about Bruce Campbell denegratin his work, but Im sure he does this in a funny way, I mean he also calls Ash an "idiot" and his loyal fans "primitive screwheads" I guess its all part of his distinctive sense of humor.
Too bad no one has picked up on Crimewave. Some film distributor (wink wink Anchor Bay or LionsGate) should try and get their hands on this one. Hey if they did it with Bad Taste, they should also do it with this one.
Hey Bowie, I also saw Darkman as a young kid at the theaters and was wowed by it. Still has a special place in my heart too. Mainly because it was the first Raimi film I ever saw. I remember being a bit annoyed at first by all his visual tricks, like for example those scenes where Darkmans experimenting with some formulas and calculators and pencils and all sorts of scientific imagery starts floating around on the screen, I was like "whats this all about?" But after a while I realized that this sort of thing is what makes his films special....of course it took some getting used to, but after a while I started to appreciate Raimis visual flare. And still do.
Anyone notice that the same car appears in ALL of Sam Raimis flicks? Its on Darkman, Evil Deads I through III and I even cought a glimpse of it in The Gift and Spiderman.
Its Kind of like his trademark.

Uncle Bens car...thats right. That scene was preatty good and I can see why youd get distracted and not notice it....but hey it was preatty obvious when Spidey was following the crook around and he falls right on top of the car! :D
And in Darkman, when Darkmans hanging from the chopper...and Robert G. Durant tips him onto the ongoing traffic, one of the cars that hits Darkman is the famous yellow car you see in that pic. :D
Another Raimi Trademark: his brother Ted Raimi. Hes been in most of his films in numerous rolls. Heres a couple of em:

He was also Rick on Darkman. you know the guy that gets his head split open by the wheel of a moving car... and he appeared in Spiderman, he was one of the employees on the Daily Bugle...:D Aint it cool to have a famous brother director?

The man's great...one of the most talented directors out there. His horror movies were some of the few horror movies I really, I really still dig to this day.

Crimewave...
My bootleg tape is really gettin' worn. They need to release it on DVD already!
How can you NOT deny the creative moments of this movie such as the chase sequence through the endless colored doors, or the spark of light inside a dark room, a plant hanging over the edge of a window threatening to expose a dastardly scene, and MORE! How about those classic one-liners (classic in MY mind) Bruce Cambpell makes:
"How about you come up to my pad, and we can have a Scotch and a sofa, heh heh..."
GIRL: You're cute.
BRUCE: Why don't you keep talking, maybe you'll tell me something I don't know.
This isn't that great of a movie, but it's a great creative effort. With the Coen brothers helping out with this flick, it's overflowing with talent!!

Finally someone who understands!
This flicks got a lot of funny lines! Like Bruce here saying:
"So Im a heel. So what of it?" Ha! Funny stuff.
And it does have a lot of classic scenes like that scene in the room and the lights go out and the killer starts throwing dishes and chairs and they come out of nowhere...Raimis style no doubt.

Damn, you guys are really making me remember this flick. It was almost like a live-action cartoon, wasn't it?

Very cartoony. In some scenes the film feels like your watching an old Warner Brothers cartoon, or maybe an episode of the Three Stooges, wich I my add Sam Raimis a big fan of.

Has anybody ever listened to the DVD Commentary to Evil Dead II? I remember Sam saying the hell Ted had to go through playing Herietta. The costume was so damn heavy and hot, and Ted was such a small guy that he could barely breathe. Poor guy!
I love Sam Rami films. He's pure genious IMO.

I've got the Collectors Tin with the 'Gore The Merrier' featurette where you see them taking off the suit's rubber feet and LOADS of yucky milky sweat just pisses out all over the floor.....I can barely imagine how horrible that must have been.

Yeah, Klownzilla75, "the gore the merrier" is a cool making off...and funny as hell!
Did you guys who have the Evil Dead II dvd see
"The Evil Dead Baby" mini-movie that was made by the special fx guys?
Its this little homemade flick that marck Shostrom and some other guys made about a baby who gets squashed by a car, the brought back to life by a mysteriously familiar looking re-agent, Its just this little movie they made to blow of some steam and only lasts about 5 minutes, but its hilarious!
As for the nightmare that it must have been to act as henrietta, you can see some of that white milky sweat on the movie itself.
YOu know that scene where Henriettas floating in the air, and she suddenly looks at ash and gives this hideous shriek? Look closer and youll see a stream of disgusting white sweat coming out of Ted Raimis ears....:D
But I guess all that pain and sweat was worth it cause they created a truly memorable movie monster...:D
