View Full Version : Horror Fans -- Cat People or Dog People?

What do you as horror fans consider yourselves, cat people or dog people? Currently my wife and I have three cats and no dogs (Mrs. Watchman is a cat person), but I still consider myself a dog person, though I hold no grudges against cats.

I'm a cat person.

I've had a cat from as long as I can remember. My current cat was a scrawny wee stray that was hanging about the street looking for food, so we took him in and now he has grown LARGE with food. :p

I'm a cat person...I've got my 3rd cat, Spooky (although it's very likely I'm gonna kick the thing out the window if it breaks one more f**kin' thing of mine!). Don't get me wrong, I love dogs too (the ones that don't bark all the goddamned time, but they're too much responsibility...it's like havin a friggin' kid, I don't want a kid right now.

I have a cat and I volunteer at an abandoned cat shelter but I consider myself to be an all-animal person...with the exception of horses, of course.

You got that right. I grew up with dogs, but I guess I'd forgotten how demanding and needy they can be. I've dog-sat (dog-sitted?) friends' dogs and, great googly-moogly, you turn your back for a second and it's like they're dying from lack of attention.

Cats, on the other hand, sleep, like, what? Twenty-three-and-a-half hours a day? Real low maintenance, cats.

I like cats, but I'm VERY much a dog person. I love BIG dogs. St. Bernards, Alaskan Malamutes, German Shephards, etc. I walk two St. Bernards(Cara and Max) for my aunt's friend and they're the best dogs that I've been around. I just had to include a picture of them:

While I love dogs also, I'm more of a cat person. Probably simply because that's what I've grown up with. I'm in college now, but I have a black & white cat at my parents house who is going to be 14 this year. He rules!

Dog person... I don't dislike cats though and if you're having multiple pets I guess they're easier, just always loved dogs!

I'm not really sure. I think I'm scarred for life from an experience I went through when I was eight. Our friends dog that I loved so much got out one day got out of it's pen and attacked the neighbors dog. The neighbor then proceeded to beat the dog with a baseball bat until it was so brain damaged that it just layed down and died. I watched the whole damn thing, and since then, I've never been atached to any dog. :( So who knows if I'm a cat or dog person. I'm much more of a hamster person! (Yeah, so, it's my only pet right now!) :p

I'm a cat person. Nothing against dogs, though. One of my friends is a dog person. And I can't remember a time in our lengthy friendship when he didn't own a dog of some sort.

Like Watchman said, cats are low maintenance. Since I'm a pretty lazy guy, that's preferable to the more demanding nature of dogs.

Dogs! Although, my old cat Juck-O ruled. I haven't had a cat in a few years, but dogs are more of companions anyway. They have emotions and they show them, it's like a little kid. In a good way.

im definetly a dog person,i have a welsh corgi cardigan, named maggie, and its the coolest dog, literally.my cat is just a snotty bratty thing that attacks on her own commandings, but lucky me i hardly see her,we keep her down the basement....my dog is much more affectionate and playful and more of a companion which i look for, since i dont have any family company much anymore.

I prefer dogs, but currently own two cats. Does it count if one of the cats totally acts like a dog? I have a tailless manx named Charlie that I swear was raised by dogs. He constantly begs for attention, loves to have his tummy rubbed, and even plays fetch.

I'm a dog person. to the Max.. In fact, I'm such a dog lover that I give them personalities and talk to them as if they're babies, etc..

Morgan and Chucky are lying down on the floor riiight next to me as I type. I'm home alone and these two suckas are scared of the rain..

Morgan is a big, black mutt and my best friend in the whole world. She's not a huge dog, but she's big enough to make her cuddly. Whenever I watch a horror movie, morgan is there, making fun of it... calling the actresses sluts, etc.. There' are a few that she enjoyed, though.. Cronos, Tenebre.. that kinda stuff
Chucky, however, is a baddd beagle.. Totally stubborn, just a little dumb. He's adorable, though.

cats are cooool, but my family wont let me have one.. :( If I get one (when I get one) I'm naming it Caleb.. its hebrew for dog. :p

My cat, Boo, is exactly like that! She cannot bear to be away from us, and even opens doors if we've shut her out. Fortunately she's only 4 lbs. so she's not that much of a hassle.

And, BTW, glad to see another Washingtonian on the board. I live in California now, but I plan to move back up to the beautiful Pacific Northwest before long. :)

dog person, hands down. i have no problem with cats, but i just don't want to have one myself. from before i was born until i was about 9 my family had a springer spaniel named chewy (short for chewbacca). some piece of shit threw rat poison into our backyard, which chewy ate and died from internal bleeding because of it. 3 years later we got george (short for giorgio...shut up, he came with the name) a maltese. now, this little dude was not your typical long shiny hair, little ribbons on his head pris. he was a maltese with attitude. he was a little punk (just like his mommy). about a year and a half ago, when he was 13, he got lymphatic cancer, and rather than putting an old dog through the pain of treatment that would only extend his life and not cure him, we euthanized him. i'm sure he and chewy are running around together up in doggie heaven as i type this. rock on, guys.

Definately a dog person. I've never really liked cats. My fiance has both a dog and a cat. I've pretty much claimed the dog as my own but she can keep the cat. I'm not a person who needs constant affection but I love how much my dog gets excited whenever I come into the room. It's kind of like all the crap that happened to me during the day goes away for a little while. I don't get that feeling with her cat.

01-28-2003, 08:11 PM
I've always had such a soft spot for dogs. Everything about them. My current dog is pretty old now. Now she's having trouble walking. I hate to say it, but I really know she isn't going to last much longer :( . We've been noticing her getting a little worse every once in a while. I like cats, but they don't seem as playful as dogs. But I probably like dogs more because I've grown up with only a dog.

Wow, topics for the threads get weirder every time I come back to the horror boards...

I really prefer dogs to cats because they're so much smarter. I never had one though. A hamster is the only pet I've ever had... but it died recently... but in contrast to general opinion i wasn't responsible for my hamster's death!!!;)

You're lucky, Watchman. Mine is twice that big. Hasn't figured out the art of opening doors yet, but sure is good at closing them! It's weird waking up some mornings to find a door closed that I know was open the night before, and when I open it - out walks Charlie.

I love both cats and dogs. My whole life thus far I've always had a dog and/or a cat. When I was smaller I had two golden retrevers (sp?) They were the best dogs that I've ever had. I don't remember much from when I was 9 and under but I do remember those two dogs. Copper and Red where their names. Then one day my dad tells my brother and I that they took the dogs to go live on a farm (IE. had them put to sleep.) What is up with that crap? Why do parents tell their kids that their dogs went to live on a farm when they are dead. I understand the meaning behind the little lie but still, it would be better to tell the truth IMO.

Anyway! Back to the present. I own three pickanese (sp?) Two Boys and a girl, Robbie Gordon, Gizmo and Keeyla. Robbie Gordon for the Race Car Driver, Gizmo from Gremlins and Keeyla because she was Louis Prima's wife. (Stepmonster and grandfather named Robbie and Keeyla.) I also own two cats, one named Minnie and another we jes' call Kitty. (Kitty is my other's cat) I used to have a cat named Mickey but I went on vacation one year came back and he was dead. A "friend" was watching him for me and he died, he ate rat poison and cat's won't touch the stuff unless there isn't anything else to eat. To this day I bust her about killing my cat.

In all I'd have to say that I'm more of a cat person due to the fact that I love having my pussy ;) curl up with me while I'm watching a movie or the discovery channel. Ok, enough rambling out of me.

Originally a dog person from childhood, but always liked cats. Just never allowed to have one cos my mom hates them. Now I have two Yorkies, a cat named George, (who is sitting right here overseeing my typing, he was in my arms a minute ago so don't tell me cat's aren't loyal and affectionate. He was just kissing my cheek cos he's cool. lol) and I also am a rabbt person, I always thought rabbits just sat there and pooped. But now I know better, I have a rabbit who acts like a dog, even eats dog food! So go figure, my rabbit is the perfect mix between a dog and a cat, clean and doesn't smell, self sufficient, litter box trained (oh yeah, he rocks) but yet when he runs around loose he kicks it up, jumps up in the air, will come over and demand treats and forehead scratchings, and will usually come jump in your lap if your sitting on the floor, and of course, goes and eats out of the dog's food bowls. I spose I have a menagerie...George the Cat says, "yo..."

A bit more of a cat person. I find them to be smarter, not as noisy or big, and far easier to care for. I've always had a cat in the house. I only owned or even liked dogs around a year and a half ago.

When I was like 7 my best cat I ever owned started bleeding at the mouth and was limping around. We took her to the vet, but he died around a week later. Broke my heart. A little piece of me died with him that day.

I love dogs though. Very protective. I now own a doberman pincher, a chocolate one. He is extremely stupid, but sweet and handsome.

I always found frogs to be a favorite animal of mine, though.
