Well the movie tournaments seem really popular right now so I figure why not do one for 2000? It wasn't the best year in recent history but there were a lot of solid films released. Here's the list:

American Psycho
Before Night Falls
Best In Show
Billy Elliot
Cast Away
The Cell
The Contender
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
Erin Brockovich
Final Destination
Finding Forrester
Frequency
Gladiator
High Fidelity
Meet the Parents
The Ninth Gate
Nurse Betty
O Brother Where Art Thou?
The Patriot
The Perfect Storm
Pitch Black
Proof of Life
Quills
Remember the Titans
Requiem for a Dream
Shadow of the Vampire
Snatch
Tigerland
Traffic
Unbreakable
The Virgin Suicides
What Lies Beneath

High Fidelity - still wondering why it was set in the US rather than in London. Apart from that, a wonderful adaptation. ...actually I find nearly all films involving record collectors very intriguing (GHOST WORLD is another fav) because I can understand these people so well. And in addition: seeing John Cusack and Jack Black beating up Tim Robbins is just priceless.

I rented High Fidelity (6/10 or C+) the week it came out on video and was disappointed. It was alright, but not great. Meet The Parents (7/10 or B-) was good, but not as great as some people said. I spent most of the movie feeling sorry for Ben Stiller's character and thinking "if I was him I wouldn't take that shit, I would just leave." Her family was fucking horrible and after awhile she became a bitch to. She didn't even stick up for him. Was I the only one wishing he wouldn't marry that bitch? Who would want to be a part of that family? I sure wouldn't. Granted, it was funny, but I felt sorry for the poor guy more than I laughed.

Anyway, my vote goes to Meet The Parents.

The Ninth Gate (4/10 or D+) was interesting for a little while, but then it went majorly downhill very fast. And what was up with that horrible and just plain laughable ending (not the very ending but before that)? Freakin' stupid! Nurse Betty (8/10 or B+) was a very clever and funny comedy. Renee Zellweger was wonderful as usual. Nurse Betty definitely gets my vote!

It wasn't that close, Nurse Betty was quite a few votes ahead of The Ninth Gate and it was obvious Nurse Betty was going to win.

Anyway, I can't vote on this one. I only saw bits and pieces of The Patriot and the part in the end when the horse gets killed appalled me, so it won't get my vote, plus the movie didn't look very good anyway. And I never saw O Brother Where Art Thou, it looked incredibly stupid.

I saw The Perfect Storm (5/10 or C-) in the theater and I was bored out of my mind. I gave it another chance on video and I still didn't care for it. And although I didn't find Pitch Black (6/10 or C+) to be that great either, it was cartainly better than The Perfect Storm. So my vote goes to Pitch Black.
