Agreed; this is one of the best and scariest horror films I've seen in years. Very moody, serious, no cop-out "ironic humor", and the video images shown really capture an abstract aura of death...

.When Sadako comes writhing through the television, it reminded me of what horror films are capable of. It's a hair-raising moment, scary and surreal; straight from a nightmare imagery. Isn't it funny how most of the best horror films nowadays are coming from other countries? We've had THE NAMELESS, AFTERMATH, THESIS and OPEN YOUR EYES from Spain, AUDITION, BATTLE ROYALE, UZUMAKI, THE RING and countless other semi-legendary films from Japan...time for America to start getting back in touch with it's soul, find it's weakening pulse, and stop with all the flashy CGI / remake / sequel bullshit.

Very cool movie. Heard a lot about it. Then I went apeshit when I found a video store near me that had it. Hopefully the remake will do it justice but they hardly ever do.

Dude, I LOVE this movie! It's too bad so many Americans are completely oblivious to its existance. This is one of the freakiest, kick ass horror movies to come along in ages. And, oh yes, when that ending happened, I'd swear my heart skipped a beat or two. Shocked the hell out of me!!!

Ring is an outstanding Japanese film !!!
Maybe the scariest film I have seen !!!
I was really really really impressed and scared by this movie !!!
The scariest scene is maybe when Sadako is approaching the tv, moving in a weird manner, she's approaching, approaching and than .... god you must see it !!!

Theres something about the way she walked up to the camera that really made me friek. Thats the proper way to end a horror movie.
Anyone seen Ring 2 or Ring 0?

Ring 2 is not as good as the first one!
Ring 0 is ok, still not as good.
If you can check out the Korean remakes called The Ring Virus, they actually do justice to the original (and are available on DVD).

Havent seen the film yet, but on a site i downloaded some clips from the movie. However i unwillingly got the ending clip that i heard so much about.(didnt know it was it) EEP!
SPOILERS!!!
When Sadako walks up to the screen and comes withering out. Jesus that had to be one of the creepiest things i have ever witnessed. That walk and that eye. Definetly as unsettling as its made out to be and I mean i dont get scared by the "infamous" horror flicks like Exorsist or TCM, so it was nice to see even a small bit of a hyped horror movie and for it to live up to it. Now i just gotta find me the rest of the flick. Cant wait till the remake, cuz I'll probably never find the actual original first.
Actually if anyone has suggestions on where i can get a copy it would be much appreciated.

Just the best ghost movie ever...I love showing it to people who haven't seen it yet...especially talking to them the next day about how they didn't sleep all night...
Try ebay for finding a copy for yourself...

I'm anxiously awaiting a copied version of this film in the mail...hopefully it will live up to all the fantastic hype I've seen.
On a slightly different note, I watched Audition (Odishon, 1999 from Takashi Miike)
last night for the first time and I am utterly speechless. This is what movies should be about. I honestly have never seen anything like this before. Disturbing like nothing I've ever encountered, and yet compulsively watchable, no, devourable for the average viewer who doesn't mind having their perceptions challenged every once in a while. Everything about this is perfect...the music, the colors, the dialogue, the acting...I won't say anymore because everyone who is on this board should see it, and without any preconceptions. This film should be regarded as an example to filmmakers the world over as the picture perfect way to create atmosphere and dread, to develop characters and slide in social themes on top of it all. This is the haunting visuals of Lynch on a more linear level, the colorful splashes of Argento with a plot that works. This is David Cronenberg thrown in a gothic mixer with Edgar Allen Poe. I cannot recommend this enough. 10/10 and one of my new top five favorite films of all time. When a film haunts my dreams, I take notice...maybe Hollywood will do the same.
