View Full Version : Spooky little ghost girls...

So Ive been noticing a fad thats been spreading like wild fire in horror films...spooky little girls.
They been used in the past as a scary plot device and very effectively I might add..but lately this little trend has had less then spectacular results...example: Fear Dot Com.
Films where spooky little girls have been used:
The Shining- (the two ghost girls hanging around in the hotel)
The Ring- (evil girl with pshychic powers)
Resident Evil- (the holographic representation of the red queen)
Ghost Ship- (the little ghost girl that killed herself)
So why do you guys think this is done so often in horror movies?
And what in your opinion is the best time that this has been done in a movie?
My vote goes for The Shinning. Followed closely by The Ring.

Well, most of the films you listed are nowhere near scary. The girls in RESIDENT EVIL, GHOST SHIP, FEAR DOT COM, etc weren't scary whatsoever. I'm with you on your pics...THE SHINING and THE RING probably did it best.

I agree, THE SHINING twins are the scariest...
The Resident Evil one was annoying and needed a smack in the face.
I also found the ghost girl in "Blair Witch Project 2" scary...her face was EVIL!

Not really spose to be scary, but still kinda creepy, .... The jump rope girls in the Elm Street films.

Yeah those were spooky too....one two freddys coming for you...three four better lock your doors...spooky. And that little girl on Nightmare on Elm Street III Dream Warriors...the one that says: "let go...your hurting me!" And when Patricia Arquette takes a look at her shes a skeleton! AAAAHHH! :)
Samara was defenetly one of the spookiest things to come out in recent years...

Now come to think of it..there have been a lot of spooky little ghost boys too..like the ones seen in the Others and Devils Backbone....

I agree with spacemonkey. When A Nightmare on Elm Street's theme song starts to play, with the little girls jump roping and singing their chant, has to be one of the scariest moments ever!

Little girls and 'alternative' people are so overdone. You know, the goths and punks and whatever else they throw in there that is not supposed to be normal.

Sadako's scarier Samara, IMO, but she's actually a teenager, so I guess she doesn't count.
Anywho, I'm with the spector of the Grady twins from Kubrick's "The Shining."
We want to play with you forever ... and ever ... and ever ... and ever ...

In Rob Zombie's SONG House of 1000 Corpses, after the music is mostly done you can hear a very creepy sounding little girl that is presumably a sample from the movie.
Krueger Bayne

He also used a creepy little girls voice in call of the Zombie a song of his album HellBilly Deluxe.

Don't forget the little girl in THE LADY IN WHITE, who haunted an elementary school as she was doomed to relive the horrifying events of her own death on the anniversary of her unsolved murder (as witnessed by the film's young hero Lukas Haas).

Any movie with a ghost girl scares me. Look at the last image of my avatar and tell me you dont get chills! If I get around to making my planned film Mansion, you can bet ill be using this. I wrote a scene with not the best dialogue, but this scene isnt about dialogue. Its more about scares. Here it is:
-Various shots of the houses rooms come by. We see the guillotine in a darkened room. Next is a moving shot of a door, inside it bieng pitch black. Next is a shot of the cabinet with rope on the floor next to it. It soon becomes a P.O.V. shot of something moving,we never really see it. It keeps walking through the mansion. Vickie walks by,and a vase near the entity falls down and breaks. It gets Vickies attention, she looks back and gets a glimpse of a leg going into a door. Vickie slowly walks over and peeks into the opening of the door. She sees nothing but hears footsteps forwarding to her,and before she turns away she sees an eye. An eye so dead and terrifyingly abnormal that she screams.
INT-SCOTTS ROOM-NIGHT
-Scott is woken by the bloodcurdling cry for help.
Scott: "Liz? Vickie?!"
-Its obvious scott is chilled by the sound. He gets out of his bed and gets out of his room after hearing faint breathing a distance away.
Scott: "Whos there? Are you alright?!"
-Scott doesnt get an answer.
Scott: "Jesus,what the fu-"
-Scott is interrupted by something running behind him. He sees the broken vase that has fallen when Vickie was there,by the room she looked into. Scott runs over to the rooms open door and turns on the light switch. Everything looks normal. A bed at the corner of the room,a desk with a small mirror on it. A ledger for photos. Not as big or fancy as most of the rooms in the house.
Scott: "Is anybody in here?"
-Scott is confused, its seen in his face expression. He goes over to the photos and looks at them. There is a little girl smiling. The next photo shows the girl not smiling, and the next shows a cross with the name Emily Ruth on it. He turns away from them and sees a quick flash before his eyes of a dead, cut up Emily Ruth. It cuts back to reality where the room is anything but believable as blood is splattered all over the walls and through the little mirror on the desk Scott sees Emily Ruth getting killed by something. She is stabbed in the stomach and all over her chest until the knife plunges into her heart killing her as she is screaming with blood gurgling out her mouth. The mirror shatters and Scott yells and then is hit in the back of the head with the same knife. He falls over dead. All is silent but the haunting rhythm of the girls music box...The scene fades to black.
Anybody like it? Now back on to topic,The Grady Girls are for sure the scariest infant girls on film.

Although they can be damn creepy when handled well.

Great work again Psycho :)
As for other little girls I can think of, not the creepiest but those kids from village of the damned remake. The little girl, especially the main one, was eerie.
And I can never forget the little blonde for the original THE BAD SEED. She had no conscious at all and that's one thing that made her scary.

Oh Christ the Glicks!
That reminds me, funny story. I waited for weeks for that to make it's tv premiere back in 1979, all the teasers and stuff. And when it came time for it to show, I had come down with one of the worst flu bugs a ten yr old could get. So, I had to watch that thing with a fever of 101, go to bed afterwards in the room that I shared with my brother, and try to fall asleep. Everytime my brother tried to tease me by pretending to be the Glick boy, he actually floated across the room because I was delirious from the fever. I started halucinating that he was the damn Glick boy. My equilibrium was so shot that everytime I looked up at him coming towards my bed he moved vvvvvvvery slowly, like a heart beat at time. I was freaked. It was literally a religious experience. And we had a big god damn picture window in our bedroom. It was a very memorable week.
One I will always treasure. Fucking flu.

LOL! Thats a funny story Skweem! Made all the more frightning byt the fact that you actually had picture widows...just like in the movie.
It seems that everyone who saw this as a kid was really affected by it. I hear Klownzilla used some wooden sticks and made a cross to put it on his bedroom window!
Its just that those two kids where so damn spooky! And the way they shot those scenes was in reverse wich sort of made it all look even weirder...I know I had a few sleepless nights as a kid waiting for the glick kids to scratch my window.
