Doesn't it SUCK? Banning films I mean. Where does the BBFC get off telling us what we can and cannot watch? Pah, they suck.

What I really hate is that although they released I Spit On Your Grave, they cut it HEAVILY, 7 minutes in fact. And they filled the parts where they cut out with repeated scenes, giving it a stupid, messy look!

Bah. Anyway, try and see what films are banned in YOUR home country. ;)

is cannibal holocaust banned in the states? been wondering about that, it seems like one that would be prime canidate for dvd.

cannibal apocolypse isnt that bad, i dont know why they would ban that one. its nothing like the other "cannibal" movies, its not THAT graphic and there's no real animal deaths. pretty damn good movie i thought. just doesnt seem like something that should be banned.

Dearie me, I own quite a few titles that still aren't available.....I just hope the BBFC don't get their hands on me, as I've heard it's a £1,000 fine for each banned film that you have in your possesion............

Are you serious? I had no idea that they enforced the ban on individual people, I thought it was just illegal to sell them, not necessarily to posses them. That fucking sucks.

its not illigal to own a banned film. its only illigal to sell them in shops so dont worry bout it. or course stuff like kiddie porn is illigal and all that sick stuff but not horror films.

Yeah, according to what I have heard. It is illegal in the UK to own a banned film by the BBFC, although I don't know if they have actually fined an individual for owning one.......

it wouldnt be worth the trouble of finding people with banned movies.

its like when they said they were gonna sue everyone that downloaded an mp3, its just not possible.

but if you, lets say, leave a copy of cannibal holocaust on your car seat and a cop sees it, well then its your own damn fault lol.

Depends if its illegal copies or not... any films that were released on video then banned (eg The Exorcist until its rerelease) were supposed to have all copies collected. If you have anobviously bootleg copy then they can have a go also, although they're much more interested in supply than possession - fines for possession appear to be deliberate leverage to get people to tell them the suppliers...

If you import a DVD of a banned movie from the US then there's nothing the BBFC can do, as imports do not come under their jurisdiction. The same applies to director's versions of films etc which may not get released because of the hypocritical approach of the BBFC that (quoting from a reply to an enquiry I sent to them) "we will never release another version of a film with a different rating than one which has been already available to the market". So according to the BBFC, the following will never happen:
Die Hard 2 Widescreen rated 18, pan and scan rated 15
Heat - simultaneously available on video with 15 and 18 ratings
The Terminator - simultaneously available on video and DVD with 15 and 18 ratings

In Canada, the only films I know of that are banned are:
Cannibal Ferox (Ontario)
Caligula
Fat Girl

and at one point in time Romber Stomper was.

No films are banned where I live (Holland)

And for those in the UK, you can always import these movies in uncut versions.

...aka Getting Even (1977)
...aka Held Hostage (1977)
...aka I Hate Your Guts (1977)
...aka Staying Alive (1977) (USA: changed title)

I know this probably isn't the sequel to Saturday Night fever, but they should've banned that one...

Mikey

This film was on Carlton Cinema The film channel and hasn't been banned for a long time.
The film is strange and Mc cauly Crawly or whatever you deem to name this nazi experment of a child plays a physco in a rather suprisingly effective light.
However all in all it's pretty shite never the less.

According the the BBFC, Mikey has never been resubmitted since its rejection in 1996. From your description, it sounds like you are talking about the controversial but not banned The Good Child with Macauley Culkin and Elijah Wood. It was cut by about half a minute on first release but was resubmitted last year and rereleased without cuts. Mikey starred Family Ties kid Brian Bonsall and the delectable Ashley Laurence.

However, some movie channels (and Channel 5) have their own devised their own classification systems which allow them to evade BBFC classification as long as nothing illegal (eg child pornography) is included. Hence Sky cuts some films depending on when they are showing them and Channel 5 shows the uncut version of The Rock...

It's not illegal to own films cut or banned by the BBFC provided they are "for your own personal use". The problem is getting them through customs, as they are often on the look-out for the more notorious titles. It's a good idea to check how conspicuous the packaging is before importing. For example, companies like Amazon.com print an invoice that is on the outside of the packaging, telling you the title of the DVD, so it would probably get seized. For UK customers, Movietyme.com tends to be pretty good.

Why are the movies I like always getting trashed on here??

Anyways, I thought Mikey was a decent effort. It was well-acted and I thought Brian Bonsall (NOT Macaulay Culkin, or whatever you said) did a fine job in the title role. I was actually surprised that Disney picked him to star in Blank Check after this was released.

Oh, and by the way, I can't believe Slumber Party Massacre II is still banned in the UK. I'd have to kill myself!
