I know this is kinda old and tired out, but I had completely forgotten about this movie lately and I all of the sudden came upon the fact that it was coming out on DVD soon. Then I was going to order it on Amazon.com and I read the reviews for the hell of it. Then I realized that someone talked about the ending toe the book and how both adaptations didn't keep it fully intact. I would love to know what the real ending is to the book if someone wouldn't mind telling me.
Thanks

****************** MAJOR SPOLIERS Read at your own risk **********************
ManHunter Ending: Graham kills Dolarhyde aka "The Tooth Fairy" at Dolarhyde's house. Best part of the movie, gotta love IN-A-GADDA-DA-VIDA playing!
Red Dragon Book: Dolarhyde escapes capture (I forget how, I read this a long time ago) and comes after Graham and his family at his house. Graham's wife ends up shooting Dolarhyde and killing him

I read "Red Dragon" when I was in high school, but as far as I remember what you see in the movie is what happens in the book, except for the Starling reference and in the book Graham gets his face carved up.

It's a fairly gruesome ending to the book - he didn't just get his face carved up: **Highlight**
Dolarhyde jams a filleting knife into Graham's cheek (lovely crunch) and tries to push it through his head. Fortunately he is saved by Molly, who manages to get a fishing hook into Dolarhyde's head......She then shoots him in the face about six times or so.

Damn, I gotta sit down and read it again sometime. The part I remember the best was the wheelchair.
Eek. Eek. Eek eek eek eek eekeekeekeekeekeekeek ...
Talk about onomatopoeia.

Yeah, it's a really engrossing read - it's my favourite out of the series. I took it on holiday with me last year and I read it three times!

I went back to check to see if I got the "eeks" right and found this passage, which they should have included in the remake:
"I told you one fib." Dolarhyde tapped the thermos. "I don't really have your lips on ice."
LOL!

Heheh, didn't he also say something like:
"What's it like being Graham's pet, Freddeeeeeeeeee??"

it's been years since i last read the book or saw MANHUNTER, but i do believe both MANHUNTER and RED DRAGON ended the same way the book did, although there's some minor variations. am i wrong? didn't both films end with the serial killer hunting down graham at his house after faking his own death?
and yeah, RD did follow the book closely. page by page, almost. although peterson made a hell of a damn better graham than norton. no offense, the guy is a brilliant actor, but he was just too damn young-looking for this character.

No, Manhunter came up with its own ending.

Yep you're wrong ;) At the end of Manhunter: **Highlight**
Graham crashes through the window and eventually kills the Tooth Fairy (by shooting him about six times)
I agree with you on Peterson being a better Graham than Norton! Norton gave such a wooden performance.....
ok, now does anyone know where i can find the ending differences between the hannibal movie and book... without reading the book?

He keeps her drugged and takes her with him on the run. After awhile he doesn't have to drug her anymore, she's made a conscious decision to be his girlfriend/lover/companion/what-have-you.
What I loved about the ending of the book is Barney the male nurse realises his lifelong dream of travelling. He and this girl he's hooked up with are at the opera somewhere in South America (I think), and he spots Lecter and a blonde Starling in the audience. Lecter looks right at him and smiles. Barney convinces his friend to leave the city they're in - that night.
...so is it just the ending of the book that is different from the movie or is there a whole bunch of story left out with the mason verger character. i know i should probably try and read, but i have no time.

There's much more depth to the Mason story in the novel.

Agreed, plus they left out the character of his sister and what she wanted from Mason. And the way he enjoyed mentally torturing small children. You really should pick up the book when you get a spare moment.
