Hello again. So my presentation did not go over as well as I would have liked, though all of your input on scary movies was a huge help to me! So I am requesting your input yet again!

I'm wondering what watching horror films makes you feel? When you're watching a really good scary movie, how do you feel? How do you feel when you're caught in the moment of a good scare? what does your pulse rate do, for example. What are you thinking, what are you feeling? Any input would be greatly appreciated once again. And the more descriptive, the better!

Thank you for all your help thus far, keep it all coming!!

sorry i didnt help in the other thread, the answers giving were pretty much the same thing i would have said.

for me, its an enjoyable anxiety. i get nervous, my pulse quickens(if its a good one), but i enjoy it. its not like watching a tractor trailer coming at you knowing its going to hit you head on any moment.

when i'm caught up in it, nothing else really exists for the moment. whenever i see the final chase of halloween, you cant get my eyes of the screen.

but it does depend on the type of horror it is, if its one thats made for scares that really gets me, then what i described above is what happens.

but if its a lighter one or a comedy horror, i dont get that wound up in it. whereas i may enjoy it just as much, its a different feeling. its more like watching a regular movie.

and the sick movies, those are just for proving myself i can sit through it without barfing really. not much more than that, i get pretty drawn into them, but again not as much as a good full on scary one.

i hope this makes sence, if not, just ask and i'll try to explain better.

Well at least you're giving us some GREAT topics, BeeRa! The Boards have been a little slow lately.. :\

Whenever I watch a slasher, there's always this sort of sense.. Upon the opening scenes, when the dumbass characters are introduced, your ears perk and listen to what's going on.

For the most part, you can pick out exactly what's going to happen!

I love that. Movies that are wayy predictable can serve as a neat little exercise in your horror skills. I like that.

A good horror film, where the suspense is built up materfully and there are characters that you actually give a shit about, will give me a vague sense of unease, and a certain tense-ness as you begin to worry for the characters on screen.

The best examples of this are when you just KNOW that somethng is going to happen, but you're not quite sure when or how - The Thing was a great example of this. I remember the first time I saw this, once it was established that the Thing could literally be anyone I sat there wondering who was real and who wasn't. A classic scene for this is where they're testing their blood and are tied up together on the couch. As one by one the men were 'cleared' by the hot wire, the sense of dread anticipation built beautifully because you just KNEW that one of the men in that room was the Thing!

Se7en was another good movie for the sense of unease and dread - I remember sitting in the cinema when Somerset and Mills are driving John Doe out into the desert, racking my brains to figure out just what the fuck the sixth and seventh sins were and how he was going to pull them off! As we know now, he pulled them off in spades, but that first viewing was very tense for me!
