My, that was fast. Boasting one of the quickest theatrical-to-video windows in recent memory, Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment has announced an April 29th street date for the horror thriller Darkness Falls. Debuting in theaters only a couple of weeks ago, no specs are yet available, but at this rate, expect further details any minute...

What do you schmoes think about this?

I kind of expected this...DARKNESS FALLS opened well, but it'll drop like a rock in the next couple of weeks. A quick video/DVD release was probably inevitable in the first place.

Yeah, but not THIS quick. Movies usually never get released on vhs/dvd this fast, even if they flop.
WOW! This is surprising. I wasn't too pleased with Darkness Falls, but I think it might be a movie that plays better on video. I'm going to check it out again when it hits video store shelves. I would love it if they release an R-rated version, but I doubt they will.

Didn't GHOSTS OF MARS get a fast DVD release? Since that also was a horrormovie that bombed and was distributed by Columbia.
On-topic, I'll rent it when it comes out, although I don't expect much.

This movie kicked ass. I can't wait until this comes out. It was freaking scary. I hope it's loaded with extras and I hope there is an R rated version. A rating like this:
Rated R for strong violence/terror and gore, language and thematic elements.

And don't forget Trapped which was released in September and came to DVD in November.

The sooner, the better. I really enjoyed this film for what is was: a fun horror film, and I admit I was generally creeped out during many parts of the film. I'd really dig a R rated cut of the film, I'd bet my bottom dollar that it'd kick even more ass than the PG-13 theatrical cut. I will buy this the day it comes out.
P.S. I wonder if Final Destination 2 will get released soon. I am sure that film will have TONS of features, to cover up the fact that is pure crap, IMO.

I think the shortest time a flick went from theatre to video was THE ADVENTURES OF ELMO IN GROUCHLAND. Debuted in October 1999...it was out on video by December that same year. Just two months later.

Or maybe, just MAYBE, it'll have lots of features because the studio knows that it's been doing better than DARKNESS FALLS at the box-office and they're willing to spend cash on a good DVD.

Exactly! I'm willing to bet Final Destination 2 will have more special features than Darkness Falls. Since Darkness Falls will be out so soon, that won't give them much time to put together the DVD which means it probably won't have that many features. All I'd really want anyway is the R rated cut, which I'm sure would only improve the flick which seemed heavily cut.

Actually, Trapped came out December 24th...

Since it will be released this early, I bet it will be the theatrical version and have not many specs.

This peice of flaming garbage cant have that many special features for such a rushed release...
...but then again if they put in all the deleted stuff that once could have made this movie good and release it as a directors cut i might give it a second try, but otherwise i doubt i will invest into this again. The movie just felt cheap and gimmicky, like all they wanted to scare were the teenie bopper girls in the front row who scream at anything that jumps on to the screen and leaving the rest of the audience with a craptastic movie with cardbaord characters, some very cheap, old scares, and some major plot holes.

Just in from Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment are the full specs for Darkness Falls, making its speedy DVD debut on April 29th. This one includes anamorphic widescreen and full screen transfers on the same disc, an English 5.1 Dolby surround track, two audio commentaries (participants not specified), the "Dark Origins: The Tooth Fairy" and "The Making of Darkness Falls" featurettes, deleted scenes, storyboard comparisons, and the trailer. Retail is $26.95.
Surprisingly, it will have a few extras. Although am I the only one who thinks it's funny that the words "Special Edition" can be slapped on any DVD? Pretty much anything is a "Special Edition" now, even DVD's with barely any extras.
Anyway, I hate that damn quote that was used in the TV spots non-stop, and they actually decided to use it for the fucking cover. I hate that. They are trying to trick people into thinking it's going to be as good and scary as THE RING. Unfortunately, they'll probably be able to sucker a lot of people out of their money. "For sheer terror, it runs rings around The Ring"----give me a fucking break ...

Actually Mike, I find that tagline even more ridiculous than the quote...

God i cant believe some shmuck actually had the balls to say that on the cover of the movie!
May god have mercy on his soul. Amen.

:eek::eek:Oh my god, I didn't pay any attention to the tagline before. HOLY SHIT!!! That tagline is fucking horrible. Completely laughable and cheesy. That tagline sounds like something you'd read on an STV horror flick. My god, I can't believe they used that as a tagline. Who the fuck thought of that anyway? My god is that bad...:eek::eek:

That quote is pretty bad and misleading(Never seen The Ring or Darkness falls, but judging from the reviews on The Ring.id say so)and the tagline is VERY bad! Oh well, cool coverart, and the DVD looks pretty packed! I cant wait, and lucky for me,I dont really have to wait...he,he...

I hate the coverart.
Here's a review of the DVD: http://www.dvdfile.com/software/review/dvd-video_6/darknessfalls.html
I pretty much agree with the reviewer, although I didn't hate it quite as much, but it was still a "bad" and extremely cliched horror flick, it just happened to be semi-entertaining. However, it's definitely a movie that would be more fun to make fun of with friends because of how lame it is.
Here's a funny quote from the review:
Next up we have two featurettes, both a hoot because they are so unintentionally hilarious. The 17-minute The Making of Darkness Falls is your standard EPK making-of. Only here, all involved - Liebesman, Vanderbilt, Sherak and Shuman, the cast - seem to think they've made some sort of timeless classic, and take it all absolutely seriously. When they start comparing the film to Jaws and Aliens in the first 30 seconds, as a critic I don't know what I'm supposed to do with that. Talk about setting yourself up for easy potshots!
I know that would definitely crack me up too. In fact, I think I want to watch the movie and the featurettes with friends just to laugh at------how could you possibly not!?

In that poster if you look to the bottom, it says rated R, why can't the studio just give us that version?!?!?!?!?!
I hate when studios don't release the full version of the film. None of the deleted scenes on the DVD have any gore or nudity or any R Rated material. At least if it was really gory it could be more entertaining.
What a pain in the ass.

I will be adding it to my collection even though it's not the best of the breed of PG-13 horror movies. I'll also be picking up They this summer.

Oh my God, Darkness Falls was simply one of the worse movies I have ever seen in my life. I loved the set up at the begining, and I loved the opening scene, but after that...ugh, downhill all the way.

Exactly!, the first 10 minutes were good, thatīs why they put in on line so we could see it for free.Because it was the only good thing about the movie.
