I had heard the trailer to this was really funny, but I haven't seen it. However, Friday night I saw a TV spot for this and it looks surprisingly really funny. I didn't think I'd want to see it, but I actually really do. I think I might check this out in theaters.

I saw this preview in front of COADM, and I almost vomited. Could be the fact that to me, Queen Latifah=AntiChrist, but there's no way in hell I'll see this.

I've seen this preview several times and it looks funny. I don't mind Queen Latifah very much after her great performance in CHICAGO. I may see BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE in theaters but if not I'll definitley see it on video....
"Whats a rack?" "It's a country"
I loved that line, it was so funny!!!

Bringing Down The House looks hilarious!
The trailer is extremely funny and I'm a big fan of the underrated Queen Latifah and Steve Martin, so I'm sold!

I agree, I think it looks quite funny. I never liked Queen Latifah as an actress until Chicago, now I'm excited to see her in it. The "a rack" line is priceless as well.
I don't mind Queen Latifah. I don't love her or anything, but I don't dislike her either.

Whats with the Queen Latifah bashing?!?!?! Hey if she doesnt do anything for ya hey no probs but when shes being compared to the anti-christ! I am stepping up in her defense! Queen Latifah has really chosen good roles as an actress! I have enjoyed her in these movies...
- Living Out Loud
- Chicago
- Bone Collector
- Brown Sugar
Ok now back to Bringing Down The House. Its awesome to see Steve Martin back & the pairing of him with Latifah does seem odd but I think they will pull it off when the movie comes out when I go to see it.

I like the part in the trailor when he's all dressed up in black clothes, and the black guy is "You look stoopid,!" then he's like "Well, i got these clothes from YO MOMA!"
LOL
Yes, because white guy imitating black guy=funny.
Maybe I'm a bit harsh on Queen, but she just pisses the hell out of me.

No, Steve Martin doing *anything* is funny, love. If he was standing, looking straight ahead, and simply said "how are you", he has the capability to have me rolling round on the ground!

I'm going to see this for sure, I LOVE Queen Latifah so, so much.
Here's a review from Popcorn Junkies:
This is the kind of film that just creeps out of nowhere and knocks you for a loop, kind of like "Meet the Parents" did when it was first released. Most people will watch the trailer for "Bringing Down the House" and expect it to be another film about a parent learning a valuable lesson from a stranger, who would seem to be the last person who could teach anything remotely close to values. And, essentially, that is exactly what "Bringing Down the House" is about. Alas, you probably won't be able to catch on to the inner message because you'll be laughing way too hard to give a damn.
Steve Martin stars as Peter Sanderson, a lonely father and divorcee, who decides to try and meet someone via the internet. However, he meets Charlene Morton (Queen Latifah) and sets up a date with her, even though he is under the impression she is someone completely different. Charlene turns out to be loud, brash, and completely urban. She starts wreaking havoc on his life, unintentionally, of course. She teaches his daughter how to read sexually explicit magazines ("What's a rack, daddy?" "It's a country!"), makes friends with his best pal Howie (Eugene Levy), and throws the occasional pool party, to which she invites the entire neighborhood. However, between these antics, Charlene also manages to teach Peter about life, in general, and how to improve on the relationship he maintains with his children and his ex-wife, for whom he still has strong feelings.
First off, this film is hilarious. Steve Martin is in top form and this is the best role he has taken in a long time. His facial expressions, vocal exaggerations, and bodily movements are back in action, something he really hasn't been able to recapture since "Three Amigos". And, Queen Latifah, shows why she is such a hot commodity in Hollywood these days. Her supporting role in "Chicago" has opened up many doors for her, and this is another fine film she can place on her resume. As for the rest of the cast--they are perfect. Eugene Levy is one of the funniest characters in the film, especially when he starts laying down the street slang to Latifah. Jean Smart delivers another fine, though tiny, performance (much better than her barely noticeable role in "Sweet Home Alabama"), and "Golden Girls" matron Betty White even pops up (thank God she does not use the same language she did in "Lake Placid").
I did not stop laughing from shortly after the opening credits until the end credits--it was THAT funny. The trailers, however, are deceiving. This is not nearly as family oriented and strong on values as the trailer shows, so be a little weary when taking your young ones to see this.
All Steve Martin fans should be impressed with this wonderful new comedy. It looks like his taste in roles might have been altered somewhat, since his last few attempts have been mediocre, to say the least. I think we all remember "The Out-of-Towners", unfortunately. Stay away from flicks like that, Steve, they don't do either one of us any good.

Wow, am I the only one who had no idea that kid in the previews was Steve Martin's daughter? I thought it was his son, it sure didn't look like a girl. I still find it hard to believe. Maybe this reviewer just made a mistake or something.
Anyway, this movie looks hilarious! I've seen quite a few TV spots for it and each one makes me want to see it more. There's a sneak preview this next weekend that I'd love to check out, but who knows if my theater will even get it. If I get the chance I will definitely go. Although I know there's something going on this weekend, I just can't remember what. I've been trying to put my finger on it all day but I still can't remember what I'm supposed to do next weekend.

WAIT A MINUTE! I just saw another TV spot for it and IT IS A BOY! Steve Martin's character even called him George. That reviewer screwed up or something.

I'm pretty sure Steve Martin's character in the movie has a son and a daughter. The daughter is older, she looks like she's a teenager. There's a scene in the trailer where she has a line, I think she says "Dad doesn't seem the same anymore, he's different" or something like that. But it's definitely the son that Queen Latifah teaches how to read, with the "Rack" joke.

The rack line always cracks me up. This film looks really funny. Steve Martin as the ghetto black man is too funny. I will be checking this film out.

I was thinking it looked like he had a teenage daughter from the previews as well as a son, but the reviewer said that she teaches his daughter how to read, but in the previews she's teaching his son, so that's where the confusion set in.

This movie looks pretty damn funny. The look on Quen Latifahs face when Steve Martin wakes her up and she yells "who dat?!" cracks me up. "you got me straight trippin boo" is also funny. Hopefully the film is as satisfying.

That ain't no reviewer. That's one of the most obvious "studio plants" that I've ever read......gimme a break, 4/4....the whole thing reads like a press release.....

I saw the flick tonight and didn't think it was FUNNY AT ALL and very overly "stereotypical" (all black dudes are "gang bangers" and all white folks don't "get it"....bugh), but having said that, I thought the trailer looked like dog poo in the first place, with the only semi-humorous note being the already overused "Iraq" joke.
Latifah was the bomb in it though. Might be 4/10...review should be up by next week.....

I saw it tonight and I liked it much more than I expected to. It was hilarious, much funnier than OLD SCHOOL. Queen Latifah kicked some major ass in the movie (literally), she is probably the highlight of the movie for me. Betty White was also hilarious as Steve Martin's bigot neighbor, "We need to comb your hairdo, you look like a fag!" I do agree with JoBlo about it being stereotypical, but I still thought it was really funny. BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE is my favorite movie of 2003 so far...

I'm really glad you liked it. I went to see the sneak preview tonight and as I was standing in line waiting they announced that it was sold out. So instead I saw How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days (8/10 or B+) which was excellent anyway. God am I in love with Kate Hudson :)...
But I do agree with both you and Joblo without even seeing the movie, it does look like it will be very stereotypical. But regardless of that, I still think it looks fun.

How did the movie end? Did she get together with him, or did he go back to his ex-wife. You can write the answer in the spoiler thread. Thanks

I saw the sneak and I too thought it was a lot funnier than I was expecting it to be. I thought it might be one of those movies where all the funny stuff is in the ads, but there's plenty of hilarious scenes the trailer doesn't even hint at. Betty White was great as the politically incorrect neighbor, somehow she can get away with making such shocking comments because she's such a sweet old lady. The girl who played Alexandra in JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS has a very funny fight scene with Queen Latifah that I think audiences are going to like a lot. I predict this one is going to make some money.

I'm glad you liked HOW TO LOOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS. I felt something was missing from it, and I didn't find it too funny either. Oh well, it was still enjoyable. I did find BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE TO BE hilarious though, I haven't laughed that hard since THE HOT CHICK. I like Queen Latifah a lot more after seeing this movie as well, she was hilarious.

I think I'll have to check out BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE in a couple of weeks when it opens. And I think it actually could do pretty decent at the Box Office with as fast as the sneak preview sold out at my theater last night. I was there over a half an hour early and was in line for maybe 3 minutes when they announced it was sold out. I think it could easily pull in at least a 15 Million opening weekend. Plus, I haven't talked to someone yet that didn't think it looked funny.
this movie looks hilarious i can't wait to see it, i think it's the kind of comedy i've been waiting for a long long time now. I'll see it opening day.

I agree...I can't wait to see this movie. I know that it did really well too at the Sneak Previews in the Box Office....see below
from money.cnn:
Disney (DIS: Research, Estimates) held 940 sneak previews Saturday of its Touchstone Pictures comedy "Bringing Down the House," starring Steve Martin and Queen Latifah.
The PG-13 "House," opening Mar. 7 at about 2,700 theaters, played to 85 percent capacity, according to BV Distribution president Chuck Viane. Its audience was 49 percent males and 51 percent females with 55 percent couples, 23 percent families and 20 percent teens. By age, those on hand were 48 percent 26-50, 32 percent 12-25 and 13 percent 50-plus. They scored "House" 92 percent in the Top Two Boxes (excellent and very good).
"The last time I saw a score like this was 'Remember the Titans,' which (did) $115 million," Viane said. "Having the next 12 days for word of mouth to percolate before we open (will help a lot)."
