JACKASSES NEED NOT APPLY
Video Business Magazine is reporting that both Wal-Mart and Kmart have decided not to carry Paramount Home Entertainment's Jackass the Movie when it debuts March 25. The decision, according to a spokeswoman for Wal-Mart, was "based on what we believe our customers want." Paramount, for their part, had no official comment. But you can bet that with Wal-Mart's monster buying power, this decision is going to put a serious crimp in the title's sales numbers.

Well, I certainly don't agree with their decision. Why not carry a movie because of it's title? It's baffling that they wouldn't want to carry a DVD that's sure to be a big seller.

Yeah that's what I was thinking too. I really believe this will be one of the best selling DVD's of the year and it's bizarre that Wal-Mart wouldn't sell it. I mean really what's the difference between that and selling Freddy Got Fingered which was just as bad with the gross out stuff as Jackass was. And the "based on what we believe our customers want" line is the biggest bunch of BS I've ever heard.

Wal-Mart is rather odd. For a store that sometimes puts movies a day out before their actual release, they sure are nitpicky.

I doubt this is true but I have no clue. I have a Wal-Mart in my home town but I can get Jackass: The Movie in so many other places (Blockbuster, Zellers, CD World and Rogers Video).
This is such a stupid idea... I'm sure it will make a lot of money in sales so it's Wal-Mart and K-Mart's loss...

No major loss on Wal-Mart's end. K-Mart?!?! Who that?:D I have seen other retailers like Circuit City,Best Buy & Target here where Im at would be MORE than glad to take on the slack of customers looking to be their copy of the movie when it comes out.

If they knew what the customer's wanted, then they'd not deny them a movie that grossed 60M on a barebones budget

If they want to make a moral judgement, I am cool with that. They must think that they do not want the kids who shop their, looking in the DVD section to see a DVD called Jackass: The Movie. I am not going to attack them over a choice on behalf of their paying younger customers. I respect it.

If they wanted to make such a moral judgement, why sell movies like Don't be a Menace... and Freddy Got Fingered?
They sell airduster for computers, and we all know the real reason a kid buys those (and it ain't cleaning  )
How about Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance.
If they were consistent about their "concern" for their customers, then maybe i could respect it.
Wonder if they will sell Michael Moore's Bowling for Columbine ;)

Why the fuck not? Let me note that when I went to the theater to see it they put Jack A the movie. Can't they like put it behind the counter or something? And let people buy it if they ask.

Someone might over-hear. Is it really worth running the risk of polluting some innocent young child by using a vile word like "a*s" just to make a few measly bucks?
I don't want my little boy hearing such filth, and they certainly don't use that word on TV.
Is it actually about the title? The page on davisdvd doesn't say it is. Maybe they just think it's a crappy movie, and after seeing the effects "Freddy Got Fingered" etc. had on their dear customers, they decided to weed out such rubbish.
They're free to sell anything they want (within the law), and if they choose not to stock one movie, that's up to them. They shouldn't have to stock it, just as nobody here is forced to watch anything they don't want to.
If anyone is so desperate to buy it (I know I'm not), there are plenty of other places that will have it. What's the big deal?

I'm really want this DVD, yes there are plenty of other places to buy it if you have $25. I know if I could pay $18 I would. Every place here the DVD's are way overpriced. As for they using the word "ass" on TV they do FYI.

I would respect their choice as a company not to sell it if they did this all the time but they don't. I've seen Wal-Mart selling WWF Divas: Sex on the Beach,Freddy Got Fingered and UFC DVD's(which are more violent than anything in Jackass) so I think it's asanine to do this to their customers.

Wal-Mart = Stupid
We're talking about a place that "cleans up" all of their CDs....Who wants to buy a clean Tenacious D CD?

Wait, wait! Do they really clean up their CD's and DVD's?
As for the Jackass thing, they're just being reactionary.

Absolutely. You've never had the misfortune of receiving a gift CD from Walmart, have you? :)
All kidding aside, though, they only sell CDs with the "dirty" words edited out. One of the more amusing instances of this practice is that The Bloodhound Gang's "Hooray for Boobies" album is simply known as "Hooray" at Walmart.
Seriously.

It's very weird that you can buy R-rated movies there but not "explicit language" CDs. There's no difference--unless the album title has a bad word on it or some sort of "rude" picture. The WARNING label that they have isn't very different than the RATED R label.
And Freddy Got Fingered is a pretty bad title when you know what it means. I guess younger kids wouldn't know, but would know that Jackass is a bad word. They could just release the censored version, and call it Jackbutt: The Movie, or maybe Jackrearend: The Movie. Or even Donkey: The Movie. The actual content of the movie would be similar to the family-friendly version of Freddy Got Fingered that is included on the DVD (i.e. 3 minutes long).

Bunch of jackasses...
Customers know what the name of the movie is, so why would they not put it on the shelves? I mean, movie theaters didn't object to the title. It grossed 60 mil, right? It makes no sense whatsoever to not put it on shelves. Their customers have heard and seen the title a million times. TV spots aired every twenty minutes advertising the damn movie, so how could Wal-mart even think to not put it up because of the title? So f'in' gay.

K-Mart and Wal-Mart are such pussies, cause they are not going to carry Jackass the movie, cause there probably so worried of getting a lawsuit! I dont agree with there decision at all! That's why I work at Suncaost, places that sell electronics will also carry Jackass like Circuit City and Best Buy so why is Wal-Mart and K-Mart not, its all about worrying that somebody will do a stunt that they saw on the movie and then they will get sued when its the kids fault for doing the stunt!

Thank god someone took a stand against this ridiculous piece of garbage. I was offended at how well this junk did in the first place at the theater. It just proves that the American public will watch any shit that's thrown in front of them.

Yes, I know it's the name of a show, and I'm well aware that the word is used frequently on TV, I was just quoting Luanne Van Houten - not a big Simpsons fan, eh? Shame on you :D

What I'm most interested is that Wal-Mart apparently thinks most of its customers will be turned off by the "objectionable" content in JACKASS, but I see whole rows of copies of MARTIN LAWRENCE LIVE: RUNTELDAT, which is dirtier and a lot more profane than most of JACKASS. Did they base this info on how many people bought BIG MOMMA'S HOUSE, or what?
My point: I'm with some of you guys. They should've looked at how well JACKASS did before saying that it's not what their customers would want. 2/3rds of the people I see at the electronics movie look like they'd buy JACKASS in a second, and most of them probably would.

This is bullshit. Sam Goody recently vacated my town due to poor business. With Wallyworld and K-shit (these stores suck ok?) not carrying it, the only place left in town to buy it brand new is, gulp, BLOCKBUSTER!! BASTARDS!!!! Oh well, I am a member, so i'll just go there to get it. But it still pisses me off that they arent carrying it!

How bout this: Today I went to pick up a copy of Osbournes Season 1 dvd, all they had were censored versions. Isnt the point of it being released on dvd so that you can watch it uncensored? Nevertheless, I said "Fuck this then" and walked out.

It still doesn't makes sence. After all, the kids have definitely seen at least 5 ads for the movie and heard of the show, so it would be useless to not stock the film.
Besides, if they "knew what their customers wanted", they'd stock it, after all, it made nearly $60mil on a budget of $5mil.

Screw K-Mart, I don't give a damn about that bankrupt p.o.s. store. But Wal-Mart, do they ever piss me off! This is the reason why I don't shop at their store, because of their over-the-top "family friendly" attitude.
You know, I think they should just sell the movie, and they also should sell un-edited CD's too! I mean, hell, just leave up to the parents to decide if they want their damn kids to purchase this CD or movie. And let the customers themselves decide whether or not they want to purchase this so-called "explicit" CD or movie.
Damn! What in the hell is wrong with today's world, damn it!

Maybe they should make it an edited PG movie like "the Ring". All you should do is cut the first 1/3rd, then cut the last 1/3rd, then cut all that's left and put in an edited version of a TV episode.

That also baffled me.
K-Rap and Walbarf suck anyway. The only thing K-rap is good for is that I got the Simpsons Season 1 DVD there for $25.
