When I first saw this flick at a young age, I knew somewhat about the actual anime that it's based upon. But, I didn't know anything about the actors who appeared, except of course for Mark Hamill. Last year I got to see it again, and I was in for a treat! David Gale is in charge of this company that makes evil creatures called "Zoanoids." One of his employees is "Dr. East" played by Jeff Combs. You also get Jimmy "J.J." Walker as one of the Zoanoids. When I saw Gale and Combs together, I thought "Does this have anything to do with Re-Animator?" Then I got info on the film and found out Brian Yuzna was the producer, so all was explained.

I just bought this movie used for 96 cents! I like this movie, its cool but dorky all at once. This movie also features Linnea Quigley in a quick cameo which displays her Scream talent. She broke records with it's length. :p

Hey Klownzilla, once again, youve proven that we have the same taste in movies dude!
I thought I was the only one who liked this flick! Its got David Gale in it as the evil Zoalord. Cool little flick, cheap yet entertaining as hell, and it actually has some scenes that were preatty well achieved. Like the scene where the guyver unit pops out of his neck and slaps on his body, that was preatty cool.
And the actor who played the Guyver, he takes the role so seriously, its funny. "I - am - the guyver!" But you know it is a bit sad to see Mark Hamill doing films of this caliber...and lets face it his job on this ones less then spectacular...I mean he even turns into a giant cockaroach creature!
I liked the gory effects and non stop action on this one, its defenetly a flick schmoes shouldnt pass up on. Check it out people!
You know Klown, I think it was Screaming Mad George who directed this one, and hes the one in charge of the special make up fx, on one of the flicks that we are most anticipating... Beyond Re-animator

I love this movie as well, something from my childhood of cheese. I do like the sequel better (Guyver: the Dark Hero) but this is funnier and cheesier. The fight sequences are also kick ass.

Gluttony I also like the sequel, I think it has better fx and production values, but in many ways its not the same as the first.
The first was sort of like a tongue in cheek, gory, bloody flick, but on Dark Hero they went all serious on us and gave us the Guyvers origins, wich was cool. You guys ever see the manga that these movies are based on? They are much more violent then the films themselves...

i definetly think a sequel to this could be done, well another one, even though part 2 was a bit of a letdown, yet enjoyable,i think this could be a hit in theaters if done right,it has all the elements of the whole comic book hero storyline, with edge and dark serious elements as well thrown into the mix,and the effects in the first were sweet....i mean if spiderman, daredevil, hulk can get pushed, why not push one thats already good?

Since these flicks have the elements of sci-fi/horror into them, they are tongue in cheek, low budget and they are loaded with gore, my guess is these films wont go any further then your local video shop or blockbuster. But you know what? To me that aint so bad, cause hey I need my cheesey low budget fare every once in a while, and some of the stuff they show on films like The Guyver you wont ever see on the big screen.

Yep, that surrealistic make-up fx genius SMG directed it with Steve Wang. Wang worked for Stan Winston in the 80's. My fondest creation of Wang's was the Gill Man from The Monster Squad. Those two made some crazy creatures for this film that looked like they had just leaped out of an anime.
BTW, I think this was David Gale's last film.:(

Dude, he was the main baddy. Hes this corporate evil dude after the ultimate body armor/simbiote, The Guyver Unit.
Hes got this weird eye thing coming out of his forehead too, with wich he controls his goons. Sorta like he did in Re-animator now that I think about it...

I never thought of it like that. Maybe that's why Brian Yuzna cast him as that role because he's the perfect guy for controlling people(or things) against their will. Hey, didn't he turn into a big monster at the end?

Yeah he turned into a "Zoa-lord" and with the guyver unit, if he would have been succesful in taking it he would have what he called "The Ultimate zoa-lord". I guess, I allways find a way to tie everything up with Re-animator, I could probably tie up Star wArs to re-animator if I tried really hard....hey wait a minute...didnt they say at some point in the DVD commentary that David Gale was in the same caliber of acting as Christopher Lee who appeared in Episode II? See what I mean? I did it again.. Jeez...
Anyhows the ending of The Guyver had a lot of miniature work going for it. I thought this flick was done preatty well, considering the budget they had going for them.
You know what the most annoying thing in the universe was? That chinese girl. She just really messed up the whole thing for me. "My father! My father! Wheres my father!" Oh jeez shut up allready! She really made me irrirtated after a few minutes...that plus her atrouciously bad acting did the trick.

Which DVD commentary is this? I remember Stuart Gordon saying that Gale was like a new Hammer horror star. After all, he was from England. And he had a powerful and menacing presence to him.

I love this movie, it's one of my all time favorites. I always wish that this had been turned into a tv series like Stargate was.
