Oscar-winners Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, who most recently collaborated on DreamWorks' Catch Me If You Can, are negotiating to team up on Terminal. The dramatic feature will be produced by DreamWorks production-toppers Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald, with Andrew Niccol and former DreamWorks production executive Jason Hoffs executive producing.
Written by Sacha Gervasi and Jeff Nathanson, the story revolves around a Balkan immigrant (Hanks) in the U.S. who is forced to live in an airport terminal after the boundaries of his war-torn country become blurred and his passport is voided. He soon begins to make friends with various people in the airport and falls for a flight attendant, which spurs a daring escape one year later.
Several A-list directors had been circling the project, including Lasse Hallström, Sam Mendes, and Niccol, who had been attached but left to direct A River Road instead. It is not known if Terminal will be Hanks and Spielberg's next project, but the studio said that Spielberg has been lining up a crew for a late-year start.
Both Hanks and Spielberg are repped by the Creative Artists Agency. Hanks is a two-time Oscar-winner for his work in Philadelphia and Forrest Gump, while Spielberg, also a two-time winner, has taken home the Academy Award for helming Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan.
It doesn't sound that good, but neither did Catch Me If You Can and then I saw the trailer. So, maybe this will turn out great like CMIYC.
