After watching The Matrix again I kept thinking... What makes this an R flick? I know you got some violence but there inst much else. This is one film that sorta jumped at me from a rating standpoint. Most movies I can easily agree with the ratings, however I think The Matrix is on the edge of a PG-13 action flick.

Yeah,I could see it being PG-13...
The only thing in it that was semi-R rated was the big shootout at the end...

If it was PG-13, then some of the spirit of it would be lost. The necessary changes would probably be less shots of the shootout (the best scene in the movie) and of the fight scenes. Even though there may not be that much upclose blood or giblet shots, they did get very close to the punches. But there was also a fair amount of cussing, which can lead to an R

It earned it. Not graphic with gore or blood, but lots of closeups of nasty punches. Then a semi bloody shootout and some people with knives in them.

It would be better if it was R, although a PG-13 rating would mean more $$$ on opening day.

I would prefer R but if theyre goin PG-13 then there nothing I can do about it. With A PG rating linked to it, more teenagers can freely see the movie equals more bucks for the movie.

I think the only reason it was R was because of the black trench coats and guns.

In New Zealand its only an M, meaning anyone can see it.

If it were PG-13 it would scare me away.
I can see it happening with some very minor trimming, but I prefer it not to be.

I think that part of the reason it was rated R was because of the pumped-up intensity that accompanied the gunplay--in terms of content it was pretty mild for that rating (though strong for a PG-13). It's one of these "borderline" movies that would get a "PG-15" if that rating existed.

The Matrix isn't as gory and bloody as many other films out there, but it does deal with guns and violence. One of the reason's why it wasn't PG-13, is because they didn't want 'kids' to get the idea of shooting and killing people (oops, too late). But if they edited the ending, all the gore, some language... then you have a PG-13 rating. Which would make a horrible film. Nothing can compare to the one and only, ('R' Rated :p)...MATRIX

As with the other schmoes saying it is not graphic i agree with them 100% it isnt graphic its just the regular violence what gave it an R rating. And it had alot of hand to hand combat
I thought Daredevil was more violent than Matrix and it's PG 13

I was just about to mention this. Daredevil had the same feel. However, I heard DD was edited 4 times to get the PG-13 rating so basically they squeezed it so many times that the MPAA just said "here, take your damn pg-13 rating!". Im hoping for a Directors Cut
