Savini shows us he has nothing to envy to Botin, Baker or the others.
His gore is very realistic and pretty raw in this film.
The killer's look is as impressive as in My Bloody Valentine even if MBV is a much better film ( my favorite slasher, btw )
The Prowler is rather boring because it is all about walking around and exploring the house.
Some characters could have been killed ( the couple in the cellar ) I like the intro with this archive pictures of the Second World War.
The music is okay and the photography is also good.
This slasher could have been better written, too.

This one gets better EVERY time you watch it.. I remember the first time I saw it, the ending didn't really impress me all that much. Now I wait for it..!
Pretty tight, but generic...I gues Savini's gore would make this a bit of a curiousity to most people, and its wellll worth checking it out for that! all the gore scenes are handled with such care.

The Prowler and My Bloody Valentine are probably the most underrated slashers of all time. I love both of these movies but I truly thought The Prowler is a hidden gem. I have heard of My Bloody Valentine for awhile, since the 80's but the Prowler I just watched a few years back for the first time. Not many people have heard of this movie but I thought the gore in this was some of Savini's best. If you look at it, this movie was very well done for such a low budget. Zito did this before Friday pt 4 and his Misssing in Action flicks. He has a good cast of unknowns here with the exception of Farley Granger. IF you are a a fan of this movie of even somewhat enjoyed it I strongly suggest you purchase the dvd for its incredible improvement of the picture quality and the very entertaining commentary of Zito and Savini.

Excellent Gore, but it dragged at times. It had the potenial to be one of the best (in a pretty bad subgenre). Bloody Valentine is just God Awful! The characters are annoying, the gore is lacking and Valentines Day is just not a scary holiday. The only thing good about it was the cave location and the costume for the killer.
The Prowler 6/10
Bloody Valentine 3/10

I can't wait to buy THE PROWLER - now that I have a R1 dvd player I've bought a few! I think it's getting a UK release as well, but I'll buy it either one! I still haven't seen it apart from the opening ten minutes, but I remember a very dark atmosphere. That is just like ZITO because he had it the same for F13 PART 4 which is my favourite of the series!
I saw MY BLOODY VALENTINE, and was very disappointed by the lack of gore. I think It would've been a very impressive slasher had it been kept in because the atmosphere was great, although I thought there were a few too many jokey aspects. Overall though, I must say I was gutted. I heard the dvd doesn't even have the gore as extras or anything and it's still getting released in the UK! I know for a fact that hardly anybody has heard of it over here and the fact it's a cut version I can't understand why they're bothering!

I don't think you can rent this Claw, I have never seen it at any video stores. This is one of the most obscure slashers around and it deserves a little more credit i think. I would try going to a local store like Best Buy. They sell the dvd for around 14.99 and it is worth every penny. Its done by Blue Underground who does solid dvds. The dvd has a great commentary by Zito and Savini, its actually quite interesting and one of the better commentary's I have heard. Zito is actually pretty interesting and Savini is the man, he is pretty funny playing this movie off nonchalently. There is also a behind the scenes gore segment with Savini which is short but a fun watch. The most impressive thing about the dvd is the picture and sound quality. Trust me it is better than any vhs copy I have seen of this and gives the movie so much justice.
The Prowler is easily in the top ten for underrated slashers. For a modest million dollar budget it is well executed.

Grisly gore, but not much else. The Prowler is lethargic and would've been better off as a short film. Still, I'd recommend it to slasher hounds and anyone bored on a Saturday night. Zito's direction is stylish, the main characters are likeable enough, and of course, there's the gore.

I was lucky enough to find a copy of this for sale near where I live. My first viewing was not impressive, as I had just finished a double shift, and (shame to me) I fell asleep just under halfway throught he film.
Second viewing was better, but I too found the film dragged in places. Savini made up for the boring bits with his great SFX, and I am glad I bought the film overall (though I think I probably paid too much in the end)
I'd still recommend My Bloody Valentine over the Prowler. MBV is probably the best of the under-rated slashers.

In australia it was always known as "ROSEMARY'S KILLER" and was released by video classics.
I believe though that a little bit of the violence is cut.
One of the hardest to find horror movies on VHS in australia
I'm lucky to own an original but the quality isn't that good.
It has been available in the US for a few years. Finally on DVD. About time.
I agree that it does drag a little and it's pretty easy to find out who the killer is but an enjoyable film.
