Is this not the wierdest casting news you ever heard? Here is the article from the Hollywood Reporter:

'Pitch Black' sequel sees Dench, Feore
Judi Dench is in final negotiations to star opposite Vin Diesel in Universal Pictures' "Chronicles of Riddick" for writer-director David Twohy, Radar Pictures and One Race Prods. Production begins in Vancouver in April. At the same time, Colm Feore has come aboard to play the lead villain in the project, which is a sequel to the 2000 film "Pitch Black," about an intergalactic prisoner named Riddick who has the ability to see in the dark. In the sequel, Riddick, now a hunted man, finds himself in the middle of two opposing forces in a major crusade. Feore will play Lord Marshal, a warrior priest who is the leader of a sect that is waging the 10th and perhaps final crusade 500 years in the future. Dench will play Aereon, an ambassador from the Elemental race. She is an ethereal being who helps Riddick unearth his origins.

Once again this was wierd to me. I mean I know she does the James Bond movies but this is a kind of movie I never would expect to see her in.

Does Judi Dench have to be in absolutely every fucking movie ever made? Why doesn't she stick to playing old British bitties, like the role she won her Oscar for? Remember those, Judi? God, she'll probably be nominated for this too...

You're probably right Nate. I can't remember which Schmoe said it, but they said she could let out a British sounding fart in a movie and still get nominated for an Oscar.

So true, so true.

Well, we don't even know what her character is supposed to be like. I'm sure someone said that when she was picked as the new 'M', but I actually like her as 007's boss. But that's just me.

I love Judi Dench as the new M in the JAMES BOND movies (then again, that's just me, of course), and I actually think this could be the exact opposite of a casting mistake. You wouldn't expect someone like Judi Dench to be in a film like CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK, and that's exactly what makes the whole idea so interesting. This could go either way: really bad, or really great, and I'm personally thinking it'll go towards the second option.

i think shes a fantastic actress who can play a loty more than "biddies" as u put it nate. and enough brit bashing fella's.

but seriously shes a great actress, its a shame she has to lower herself to work with vin "all muscle, no talent" Diesel.

I'm not Brit bashing! I'm merely commenting on the fact that she is at her best playing old British ladies. Come on, you know I'm right. Mrs. Brown, Shakespeare in Love, Iris, etc. She does great performances, that's what suits her age and her demeanour, and that's where she should stay. IMHO, she tends to look silly and out-of-place anywhere else.
