Now I haven't seen WHITE OLEANDER as it hasn't been released in Australia yet, but I have read, constantly, that Michelle Pfeiffer was brilliant in that movie, and that there was indeed talk that she was likely to get a nomination for Best Supporting Actress. But alas no. Pfeiffer is truly an actress. Everything she does is always impressive and I think she deserves an Oscar after all her work in the industry. She has lost thrice now, all for roles she deserved Oscars for. Who else agress with me about Pfeiffer?

God, I never even noticed that Pfeiffer wasn't nominated! It never crossed my mind while reading the nominees. I haven't seen White Oleander but what did her in was the fact that the film made a humongeous thud at the box office.
She's a very good actress, I agree, and it's a sin that she wasn't given a nomination. I think she knows what she's doing onscreen and she's beautiful to boot. I'm sure she'll get one someday...

Agreed -- she deserved a nod. She didn't get it. Unfortunately that kind of shit happens...but I'm confident she'll get one one of these days.

I like Michelle Pfeffier but have see WO yet. Was their a campaign meaning an ad with "For Your Consideration" put in the trade papers? BTW, what is the qualifying dates to be cnsidered a nominee?

A film had to have been released between January 1 and December 31, 2002 in Los Angeles County to have been considered for this year's awards, as with every year.

Thats what I thought too also. I figured that the Academy went on a split date that would equal within a year.

Pisses me off. I'm one of the few who saw WO, and she should have been nominated.
Even worse, Alison Lohman was ignored for best actress. She stole the show. Impressive.

I just saw White Oleander and now I'm just too pissed that Michelle Pfeiffer wasn't nominated! She's a brilliant actress and she did a hell of a job in WO! They should've put Michelle up there instead of Queen Latifah or Meryl Streep.

Well, since when has the Academy ever been known for picking the right performances? Or any big noms for a movie that flopped at the BO?

I just saw this movie tonight, and I literally posted a review a few hours ago saying "Anyone else think she was robbed of a best supporting actress nomination?"
Based on this thread, I'm glad to see I'm not alone :)
I think Michelle Pfeiffer is a great actress but maybe doesn't get enough credit because of her looks.
