View Full Version : Last house on the left
I have just obtained a Dutch import DVD of this film (It is banned in Britain)
This may be a longshot but there seem to be a number of different versions of the film about (US R, US unrated, longer canada version etc. etc.)
Does anyone here know which version the Dutch DVD is?

I don't know but this film sucks hard !!
It is all about rape, no plot.
But I must admit that the documentary style was a good idea.
This film is really disturbing and is not for the squeamish.

Last House on the Left comes out on DVD in the U.S. on 8/27/02. It will be in anamorphic widescreen and full frame. It will have commentary by Wes Craven, the theatrical trailer, and a featurette.
You can pre-order it here http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?PID=3927720&style=movie&frm=lk_pricecom for under $11.
I have never seen this movie, but I'm totally psyched about it. I'm sure that this R rated DVD will be cut to hell, but I just want to see it, before I go "Uncut" hunting. I hope the hype doesn't kill the experience for me though. Oh, well. Wes Craven is the man, and I'm sure he won't dissapoint.
It was my understanding that MGM were planning to release a cut version but have now decided to issue an uncut disc (whether w=this is in addition to the cut version I am not sure).
Can anyone shed some light on this.
NOTE: UK SCHMOES. BLUE UNDERGROUND LOST THEIR APPEAL AGAINST CUTS, THE UK DVD OF LAST HOUSE WILL BE CUT BY 16 SECONDS. SHOW BBFC YOUR OPINIONS ON CENSORSHIP BY BOYCOTTING THIS DVD.

According to imdb, this version is the most complete available, running 86 minutes. Originally, it ran 91m, but that footage is considered "lost."

Pretty good movie if not downright disturbing...
*minor spoiler*
definitely a scene or two which makes every man cringe in fear
I think the version I saw was R and cut because I don't remember a disembowelment.

Bought the dvd and I gotta say except for the atrocious music this is great. I love the gang members and the actors that portrayed them did an excellent job. The commentary is great too. Craven and Cunningham keep it interesting and share great bits of information. The making of featurette is also great. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

surley boycotting the dvd will only lose blue underground money and therfore giving us in the uk less chance of seeing films uncut as they at least did try to get and uncut copy out there. i will b getting an import version any way.
Is it easy to get copies past customs? I'm not importing if theres even a chance I'd just get a letter from customs saying my dvd is illegal and they are taking it. Still there are loads of copies on ebay so someone must have a way of getting them in.

He's right, BBFC will lose no money if you boycott the movie, only Blue Underground. The BBFC wouldn't even care if you boycotted it, they only get paid to rate the movie. It makes no difference to them if the DVD sales or not.

I have to say this one of the strongest film I have ever seen. Its up in my top ten favorites. I showed it to my brother and he said he didnt like it because it was too brutal and that he didn't believe people like KRUG and the gang actually existed. I told him ARE YOU CRAZY?! People like that do exist. I believe thats the point CRAVEN was trying to make. To which he responded that althought thats true the odds of a small group of them meeting up like that was impossible. Which it isn't. Roy Norris and Lawrence "Pliers" Bittaker are a good example of just what kind of people can meet each other and wreak havoc. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

it was an alright film, but i see nothing special about it...when you watch the features on the dvd it actually makes the film alot more entertaining and such.

I don't get what the big deal with this movie is either. . .It seems kind of sick to wait around to watch the rape because one wants to know how shocking it will actually be. I'm not a huge Craven fan though so my opinion is biased. NOES was an excellent movie but he takes a theme and runs it into the ground.

Can you explain what you mean by CRAVEN takes a theme and runs it into the ground? I myself think he has been lackluster as of late but that his early work is genius. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Anybody know if the 91min version was actually released on home video? Do you think there is a chance someone's got a dub of it?

The version I have seen was the uncut - one but that not makes the film better, not at all.
Bad bad movie.

this is just proof again that Wes Craven has no fuckin clue how to direct (or write) for that matter. how the hell can one have the comedy relief cops that have slapstick music to boot in a dark movie about rape. and another thing they really should have known something when the dude was going to sell them an ounce of Columbine(sp?) gold for 20 or 25 dollars. In a sick way it was really just natural selection, weeding out the dumb.

There's no chance what so ever. For a start it's lost, it doesn't exist anymore- the footage was binned by the film company when it was realised they would not get it past the mpaa or any other film censorship board worldwide. Secondly even if a copy was found it is unlikely to be released; Wes Craven has disowned the 91 minute version. Thirdly, are mainstream video stores where you live even allowed to stock films that have rape scenes which have hardcore pornographic elements in them? They aren't where I live.
So all in all I think it's unlikely. Sorry.
This thread was my 1st post ever on these boards. God those were the days.... And just think, if I keep the same posting average up, I'll be a King of all schmoes in only 14 years time! Woo Hoo!

The Dutch one is uncut. The Dutch aren't to shy about violence and sex on tv.

how competent is your sheriff when he has a five minute conversation with a dog about how pretty a teenage girl is? and how uncomfortable did you feel when the dad was talking to his daughter about her nipples?

I figured that, but there is a old Japanese edition that has most of the forbidden footage intact. I'm a LHOTL fan, I remember renting it in high school and it having a huge impact on me. That feeling of hopelessness.....you know the girls are never gonna be rescued because of the ignorant cops. Also, the 70's look/feel, the music....
No, my mainstream video stores do not carry "hardcore" vids. They do carry Caligula.
