Hollywood star George Clooney has developed a new obsession whilst staying in Britain - Countdown.

George has confessed to watching the words and numbers game show in his hotel room, and now has a soft spot for co-presenter Carol Vorderman.

George said: "I've been watching Countdown in my hotel room. It's great but really tough."

"I try not to miss it, and I really like the dark-haired girl who helps present it."

"That girl is smart. She always gets the answers long before I do. She's brutal."

Gawd, the man has taste...Countdown is the greatest quiz-show EVER to grace our television sets. I'm a wee bit stunned that he has taken a fancy to Vorderman...the tarty brainbox winds me up something chronic. I wonder what he thinks of good ol' Richard Whiteley!?

He certainly does have good taste: Countdown is a great show! And I like Carol too, she's really smart. As for Richard, well his jokes are a bit lame, but he's a nice guy

Speaking of Countdown, it was SO funny in About A Boy when Will and Marcus were watching it together...

I was just going to say that! As I'm Canadian, I've never seen this Countdown show, but About a Boy has made me intrigued...

Countdown is SUPERB stuff Nate, game-show fodder for the "intellectual's", the host (Richard Whiteley) is excruciatingly dull, the daily "anecdotes" are priceless...and the prizes are extremely naff.

A dictionary/thesaurus combo and a pat on the back from Richard if you're fortunate.

You can’t beat the numbers game.

"About a Boy" had the show pegged...my dad and I used to watch COUNTDOWN every day without fail...it's fun for all the family, and it does get the brain cell's working.

I mean, I like it and all, but I don't know how it can stand the test of time when "Call My Bluff" is only on every now and again.

But to be fair, the "Quiz Zone" on C4 (two quiz shows in a row, whoooo!) is very watchable, followed by One Man and His Dog. I mean Richard and Judy.

God I hate Richard.

Is it true that Judy is a reformed alcoholic? If so then I really couldn't blame her. Richard always shuts her up when she talks, like, did anyone ever see Alistair McGowan impersonating him? He has every nuance of Richard perfect, and only Richard can't see it.

I used to like Countdown when I was at Uni. I've been off work for a week now and I watch it everyday.

I had to chuckle when I read that story in The Sun.

Countdown's gone way down hill recently. There's far too much patter these days. Richard just jabbers on constantly, and most of the anecdotes from "dictionary corner" make me cringe.

I don't get to see it very often, so is it just a coincidence that when I tune in Carol never gets the numbers? (if the contestants don't) She used to get them almost all the time, now it's always "Oh, let me think about it over the break", then of course she rarely goes back to it.

Give me William G. and 15-to-1 any day! (or every weekday, whatver!)
