I just watched this early 80's slasher for the first time in years .
It's held up quite well . It was fun to see hollywood legend Glen Ford slumming it and the budget seemed to be pretty high . Plus some of the murder scenes were very inventive . Anyone else like this piece of trashy horror ?

It was alright, but the ending was wayyyy too hard-to-believe.

P.S. - Does the nerdy guy with the mouse die? I can`t remember.

It was only ok.
I felt like I was watching a made-for-tv soap opera. Plus, how many twists can a person handle. Way too many for me. I'm proud to say that I sold my copy for a pretty penny so I could buy The Beyond Collector's Tin :D

Canada delivers some good slashers :

My Bloody Valentine ( my favorite slasher, ever )
Visiting Hours ( more in common with Henry in fact )
Ripper : Letter From Hell ( very underrated this - one , not a masterpiece but I would give 7/10 )
Happy Birthday To Me ( a very good slasher, too )
etc ...

TOO many twists? I never thought it possible before I saw Happy Birthday To Me.. the last act spun out of control and I had NO idea what going on.. Otherwise, it was a neat slaher.. LOOOOOVED the death by Barbells... ouch!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME (1981) Directed by J. Lee Thompson (who helmed the original CAPE FEAR). A gloved slasher stalks the members of an elite clique of students attending an upper-crust New England academy. The murder spree is centered around troubled teen Virginia Wainwright (Melissa Sue Anderson), whose past is linked to the killings. This movie has it all: an excellent supporting cast (which includes Glenn Ford, Tracey Bregman, Lawrence Dane, Sharon Acker, Matt Craven, Lisa Langlois, Lenore Zann, Lesleh Donaldson, Jack Blum and David Eisner); several twists and turns; interesting relationships among the interconnected characters (the killer’s motive was later ripped off in “Scream”); and some of the most inventive (although very gory) murder sequences in recent (or distant) memory, including deaths by shish-kabob, barbell weights, motorcycle wheel, and the usual slashings and stabbings. Anderson, an Emmy-winner for her role in “Little House On The Prairie”, should have enjoyed a bonafide movie career, while Bregman went on to star as sexy siren Lauren Fenmore in the CBS soap opera “The Young and The Restless”. My grade: a solid B.

A little slow in parts but for the most part an enjoyable slasher. This puppy is also hard to track down. I had to buy a shitty quality vhs so I could add this to my collection. It does have a good cast with a mixture of older actors, new actors, and some unknown ones. All did a good job. I enjoyed the scenes when all of the top ten were together and hanging out. The flashback sequences were all well put together too. I for one liked the ending but it was a little farfetched. A pretty good entry in the canadian slasher genre but definately not my favorite

6.5/10

I was always fascinated as a kid with the front cover to the video in the rental shop.

Loved this film, especially the twisty ending!

Yeah it looks like her twin sister, but it really isn't, she was just wearing a mask that looked like her. In the end the other girl still gets caught looking guilty when the police arrive.

Sweet Moses on the mountaintop, will someone PLEASE tell me whether or not the nerdy guy with glasses and a pet mouse dies or not?
I can`t remember him dying, and it`s driving me nuts trying to remember!
A local video store used to carry it, but they don`t have it anymore.
