Nicole's tressed for film success Feb 21 2003

By Gary O'Shea

NICOLE Kidman yesterday showed why she's a cut above - with a great new short hairdo.

The Aussie actress drew gasps and cheers as she emerged from her trailer on the set of her new movie, Birth - unveiling her new look.

But the new hairdo triggered a furious debate about whether she has really shorn her red tresses, or if they are tucked under a glamourous wig.

Just a day earlier Nicole was seen with her long flame-coloured locks as she enjoyed lunch with Kate Winslet in Manhattan, New York.

Nicole, 35 - tipped to win an Oscar for her role as Virginia Woolf in The Hours - beamed at the stir the hairstyle caused.

An onlooker said: "You wouldn't have recognized Nicole.

"She has changed her image a lot, and her hair colour changes all the time from red to blonde, but no one was expecting it to be so short.

"It reminded me of a boy's haircut, but she looked great."

Nicole recently dismissed claims of a romance with Jude Law, whose marriage to Sadie Frost is in trouble.

Well, I've seen the photo and Nicole STILL looks gorgeous. but has she genuinely had her fiery locks chopped???

Wig??? Image overhaul??? I dunno...it looks VERY convincing though...

I'll post a photograph asap!!! I'm at work at the mo', so NO access to a scanner I'm afraid (and I can't find any piccy's on t'internet just yet).

Anyway, thoughts people???

I hope not, I loved her hair the way it was/is. I also liked Renee Zellweger's hair better before she cut it, but even as it is she's still the sweetest little thing in Hollywood.

Well, I usually prefer long haired chicks, but I don't really give a damn here. Nicole Kidman stays gorgeous in my book, long-haired, short-haired, or bald, for that matter.

My monies on thats real.

BTW i love it. May not be a great pic but i think she looks great and im sure other pics will show that too.

I do think its real though. If its not then i want a wig like that.;)

If it's real I hate it!!!! YUCK!!

I preferred her with either long straight blonde hair or long curly reddish blonde locks. This looks hideous.

Kay, I think you oughta post that flattering picture, or everybody here will turn against poor ol' Nicole... :p

No offense to Kidman fans, but that woman simply does not look good in short hair. Grow it back if you want a career from this point on.

In this picture she resembles Toni Colette (About A Boy) . . .

I don't like her new haircut either. But I highly doubt she'll stick with it.

Oh, I dunno...I think she kinda has that 'mid-60's Julie Christie' thing going on. She can certainly carry off a short 'do, and it must be a lot easier to look after.

People! It's a fucking wig! Here's the article from People.com:

http://people.aol.com/people/pop_up/0,10772,221367_1_gallery,00.html

And here's what they said:

First came the prosthetic nose for The Hours and now a drastic haircut? Actually, it's a wig. On the New York City set of Birth, a barely recognizable Nicole Kidman sports a pixie look. The Oscar-nominated actress stars with Lauren Bacall and Anne Heche in the mystery-drama.

It does not look convincing to me. Doesn't settle on her head quite right. I say wig.

First a crazy nose now crazy hair...at this rate she'll win the Best Makeup Oscar before the Best Actress Oscar!

All I have to say is.....................Oh my god Nicole my dear what have you done with your hair?? God knows I love you but you looked MUCH better with curls. Don't worry, I won't divorce you :p , but you need to get that hair fixed. ;) And don't worry, I still think your gorgeous, you just need to have that hair straightened out and after that, you'll be brand new again. ;)

Oh god.....wait......it's a wig! Thank god! Wheeew!! :o

Hopefully this is for a ROLE she is doin....Also, hair does grow back so hopefully this is NOT a new look she planning to keep. Nicole looks a lot like Connie Nielsen's character in the upcoming Basic w/ John Travolta & Samuel L. Jackson...

She looks smashing IMO...it takes a beautiful woman to carry off a look like this, and she does it in STYLE.

Still, it is only a WIG...

Hmmm...if they ever remake Rosemary's Baby, Kidman might be ideal for the lead. But she should be contractually obligated to grow it back after production. :p

I think this new hairdo looks very sexy on her, even if it is a wig. Like BCV said, it takes a beautiful woman to pull off something like this and Nicole does it easily.

Not to hijack the thread or anything (Frankly, I don't give a rat's ass about Nicole Kidman one way or the other), but DAMN doesn't Connie look mega-fine in this pic?

Sam's looking a little longingly at her.

"Hey, girl! Wanna be the meat in a Wonder Bread and Pumpernickel sandwich?!?"

Hmmm, maybe she'll get an oscar for cutting her hair now

I dont understand why a women with long beautiful hair would ever want to cut it.

Girls, dont cut your hair, its a terrible terrible idea. Nothing is sexier on a girl than long flowing hair.

Grebdron

I usually prefer short hair on women in their 30's. But in this case Nicole looks like 10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound bag.

Now, Connie Nielson can carry that look off, wonderfully.

It's not exactly hideous, but I much prefer Nicole with long hair. Suits her far better.

That said, Connie Nielsen does suit short hair much better- the choppy, layered look she had in One Hour Photo was gorgeous, whereas in Gladiator she just looked swamped.

I remember feeling simultaneously elated and disappointed when I discovered that her hair in Moulin Rouge was actually a wig- elated at she couldn't be completely gorgeous, and disappointed that I could never find out how to keep curls in even through vigorous dance routines...

The DEVIL himself wouldn't even be horny enough to fuck this Jack Nicholson as ~The Joker~ lookalike... VOMIT.

And that's with long or short hair... I just don't get the attraction to this "beard"...

I'll answer that:

Because long beautiful hair hard to keep beautiful and maintain. After a while it just wears you out. Its either cut it short or have it be shitty and made into a half-assed bun on your head. either way its not sexy, long and flowing.

Look at my situation. I haven't blow dried my hair in two months. I am too busy and too preoccupied to have to carve out an hour at night to completely devote myself to the heat, the burns and the constant rolling of my wrist just to make my hair flat.

To put it mildly: I'm on vacation from my hair.

As for Nicole, that first photo makes her look more like Annette Bening. It's drastic, however I won't condemn it, I will say there are certain people that are complemented by that length.....

Four words for ya: Hard Rock Styling Gel. When I worked in theatre, all the dancers and singers I met swore by it. It'll keep your style perfect-looking "in a Force Nine Gale", to quote one performer.

I've had waist-length hair and no hair at all, and I must agree with electriclite, longer hair requires more maintenance, even if it does turn heads in the street.

Eeeek. Let's hope that her hair grows back REAL fast.
