Now skin me with a chainsaw, but I didn't think this movie was that bad. What does everyone else think about this sequel to the horror classic?

I like part 2 .I must admit , when it first came out I was dissapointed with it especially the humour aspect .The more I watched it , however , I really got into it .
A big plus is the return of Jim Seadow as the cook , he really makes the film.

A lot of fans crapped on it for taking so many liberties with the source material, but that's precisely why it works so much better than most horror sequels. Tobe Hooper is too smart to repeat himself, he knew that it would be a bad idea to "outdo" the original, so he took the concept and reinvented it to make something odd and unique. People were expecting more of the same but they got a black comedy. It could have been a horror semiclassic if not for a boring first half hour, but I know the film was recut for time and content. Hopefully a director's cut will be available on DVD one of these days.

It's better then people give it credit for, thats the same with part 3, of course none of them will top the first, but both of them are good movies, dont compare them to the first.

I liked Part 2. I just dont see how leatherface could have survived....
AND the ending was really really stupid.

I have yet to see TCM 3 and 4, but I wonder how the hell Leatherface could live through the ending of TCM 2. I think that Tobe Hooper intended for this movie to eliminate the possibility of his becoming another Jason or Freddy, but I guess that didn't work out. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

I think your right Cy, i too havent seen 3 or 4 but i think 2 was good fun, and i bet anything Hooper wanted it to die there.

Another point to be made is that for once, Cannon actually put out a decent flick.

***************MAJOR SPOILERS**************************

I saw this a little while ago but from what i remember, the leading girl survives after killing the chop-top-wannabe and shes on top of the Amusement Park fake Mountain thing and she gets a chainsaw and she does the LEATHERFACE dance from the end of part 1.
for some reason, i think they couldve eneded it better.

I liked it, I'm glad they didn't leave in the deleted scenes in though, they were stupid.

TCM3 was intended as a direct sequel to the original. In it, Leatherface is wearing a leg brace due to his chainsaw mishap in the first film. TCM4 was a remake of sorts.

So, are we talking about multiple continunities here?

To be honest with you guys, I liked part four a helluva lt more than this piece of Garbage...but I guess I have to give it snaps for trying to take the series in a totally different direction.

~~that was supposed to be a thumbs down, by the way...

Explain your reasoning behind liking 4 better then 2 please, I just can't see that at all.

TCM2 was good if not cheesy, but never really was a true sequel. TCM3 was an actual sequel to the first one, and was okay, but thankfully not as disturbing as the first one was. TCM4, well, considering that it was a remake of 1 with some new conspiratorial elements added in, it was o.k. Though Matthew McConahey (sp?) was awesome in it.

Technically, there are two "part two's" to the original TCM, except that one is referred to as TCM3. So yes, multiple continuities do exist.

I liked this movie although I think they could have done a little better job on the ending.

I also didn't like the fact that the whole family backed down from Lefty, they should have just jumped his ass and fried em up lol

I liked some of this movie, but after the two teenagers are killed in the car while still being on the phone with Stretch, it went downhill, until the end which for some reason I liked.

I don't see how anyone can entirely dismiss a movie that pits Leatherface against Dennis Hopper. Well, Leonard Maltin did, he gave it a rating of BOMB.

Elgyn
07-30-2002, 07:11 PM
Yeah well Leonard Maltin also gave "Laserblast" 2 1/2 stars.

Cyclonus

Let's see how Maltin feels about Hooper's body of work.

TCM = ***
EATEN ALIVE = **1/2
SALEM'S LOT (TVM) = Average
THE FUNHOUSE = **1/2
POLTERGEIST = ***1/2
LIFEFORCE = **
INVADERS FROM MARS = *1/2
TCM 2 = BOMB
SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION = *1/2
THE MANGLER = *1/2

Hmmm...he didn't care for most of his films, except for TCM and Poltergeist.

Elgyn
07-30-2002, 10:05 PM
Hmmm...
So he gave "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" 3 stars.
He gave "Laserblast" 2 1/2 stars.

So this means, according to Leonard Maltin, the horror classic "TCM" is only marginally better than....."Laserblast".

Well, Maltin isn't too far off. I'm surprised he didn't outright detest Eaten Alive and The Funhouse.

I personally despised this movie. Dennis Hopper's acting was shit, Chop Top I wanted to nail to the floor with a nail gun and have that pusy Leatherface take him apart piece by peice. The annoying chick screams to much and Leather was just too much of a pussywhimp. TCM never got a decent follow up. Dirty shame!

Good movie but nowhere near the brilliance of the original. I also didn't like all the comedy and LEATHERFACE'S softer side but aside from that it was alright. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

I enjoyed it, dueling chainsaws rock, And the humor wasn't too abundant, Save some of the inherent cheese, which was enjoyable.

I love TCM 2.It rocks because Hooper keeps the atmopsphere of the 1st one,does thing diffrent than the 1st,Tom Savini's blood work was awesome,the beginning sets the tone,and plays the bad ass Oingo Boingo tune No lone lives forever.Some of the lines are great that are spoken by Jim Seidow.

"Thats just one of those hard shell peppercorns". I love that line!

Dennis Hopper was truly great ass Lefty.He put the chainsaw family on their ASS!
