The Funhouse is solid. Sympathetic characters, a great carnival setting, and a cool opening sequence (nods to Universal classics and gratuitous nudity!).

For future reference, topics such as this belong in Past Horror...

It's okay. It has it's moments and a pretty cool villan, i guess it's a worth a watch because it isnt a bad movie. That's my two cents.

I own it and I think it is average.
Sure the work on the setting and the music is pretty good but sorry that is not enough for me.
The film was a bit boring and I did not like the characters at all.
I don't find they are sympathetic, not really.
Rick Bakker did a great job with the FX and the monster is convincing enough.
Tobe Hopper knows how to create an atmopshere and that he did it very well, respect for that.
Overall it is an average slasher.

i like it alot. i think its pretty underrated. the main girl is so hot and its worth watching the film just for her. the creature is cool and i just love the setting.

I believe you're thinking of Clownhouse.

I could be mistaken, though.

Yes that was Clownhouse, which I have yet to see. Funhouse on the other hand is great. It's one of the first movies I remember seeing as a child. The monster was cool and the fat laughing woman on the Funhouse used to weird me out when I wasa kid. She still sticks in my memory. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

The moster/vilian was way creepy, kinda looking like the one from Tales From the Darkside (airplane story). The only problem is that there is not much going on in the movie until about the final 1/3 of the movie. The lead girl was kinda appealing in the good/bad girl role. With the exception of Poltergeist and TCM I am not really a fan of Tobe Hooper. His movies just seem a little stagnant to me.

6/10

I thought it was pretty good but the villan was...OK at best. I LOVED the carnival setting, and we need more scary carnival movies like this one.

This movie kicks major ass! You have to watch it on a good sized tv though. The DVD has it letterboxed and boy is it thin! Love the music and sometimes listen to my husbands soundtrack. Gives me the creeps! I hate it when people think this movie is the same as Dean Koontz book Funhouse. They are not the same, the movie came out way before Koontz book and though they may be similar in some ways they are not the same and have no other connection!:p

I LOVE The Funhouse . I saw it at the cinema when it was first released as part of a double bill with My Bloody Valentine.....................good days . Hooper sets up the proceedings with great care and the movie boasts one of the best horror soundtracks of the 80's .
