View Full Version : THE FORSAKEN.........Extremely Underrated?
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00005NB8U.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg
I rented this movie the first day it came out on video. I watched it right away when I got home and man was I surprised. This movie was unfairly bashed by most critics. It had everything a horror fan could want, T & A, tons of gore, and last but not least "SUSPENSE." I really got into the movie and was on the edge of my seat during most of the chase scenes. The atmosphere was also great. Kerr Smith was very good and likeable as the lead, I actually cared about his fate and wanted him to get out of this alive. Along with THE LOST BOYS and NEAR DARK, THE FORSAKEN is one of my favorite vampire flicks. It's one of the best so called teen horror flicks I've seen in awhile, it actually managed to provide some good thrills and excitement. I also really liked the ending, it's a good setup for a sequel. I'm extremely disappointed that it didn't make that much money at the Box Office because I want a sequel really bad. The movie only cost 5 Million to make but grossed only 6-7 Million at the Box Office so unfortunately I don't think we'll see a sequel. If I was rich I would definitely pay for THE FORSAKEN 2 to get made.
This was a very entertaining vampire flick and is extremely underrated. It doesn't get enough appreciation. I loved this movie and honestly don't see how any genre fan could not enjoy it. I'd give it an 8/10.
If anyone hasn't seen it I highly recommend checking it out.
Does anyone else agree that it's underrated?

Wayyyyy too derivative for any enjoyment.
John Carpenter beat The Forsaken to the territory that NEAR DARK and THE HITCHER started.
Near Dark never even made its budget, until it came on video. And Eric Red's influence is all too evident.
Plus, Simon Rex makes me want to gag. So does Kerr Smith. And Brendan Fehr. Jonathon Schaech .. no comment.

The Claw, NEAR DARK shines above LOST BOYS.
Near Dark (an obvious influence on FORSAKEN) can.

Lady S. I admire your the constant determination you have shown in your championing of Near Dark over The Lost Boys. I agree with you. However, The Lost Boys being cinematic junk food compared to Near Dark's comparative sophistication means it will always have wider appeal. All my past arguments have been met with counter arguments about how stylish mullets are and how cool the death by stereo scene is. Even Sweaty Sax Dude is held up as a bit part god among the hordes of Lost Boys worshippers who are lead by the head of the Corey Haim Fanclub, Stevereno. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif The Lost Boys is a good movie. It is good entertainment. Near Dark is, however, damn close to being a masterpiece (it just misses out on masterpiece status because Adrian Pasdar is a weak lead and the ending is admittedly weak).
As for the subject of this thread, The Forsaken. I've not seen it. I don't intend to see it any time soon. There are plenty more worthwhile movies to rent/buy.

Candy,
I have to be the champion of NEAR DARK, its not an admirable position since everyone loves LOST BOYS.
LOST BOYS is a relic of nostalgia from the 1980's, tat I remember enjoying when I was 7 or 8. Then the reason to watch seemed to be the music, outfits, and hair (Kiefer, more peroxide).
THE FORSAKEN is an amalgam of the two, with a dash of THE HITCHRE.
It seems soulless compared to NEAR DARK, whos undertones, and themes were thoroughly explored by all characters at certain points of the film.
APPEAL SCHMEAL, I love the darker characters of NEAR DARK to the deaths, in LOST BOYS, which are taken lightly. Death by stereo is not as unshakeable as the bar scene with slaughter.

The camera angles were gnarly, but every other thing about this pissed me off.

As a vampire flick, The Forsaken blew chunks.
But as a buddy flick featuring two guys dealing with some very bizarro shit, it worked. I thought the leads had great chemistry together and really carried the movie.
I'd give it 7/10.

"The Forsaken" was annoyingly derivative and mind-numbingly dull. The nudity and gore were certainly a plus, but it didn't make up for boring characters and an unthreatening head vampire who is supposed to have been around for, what, a thousand years but acts like a snotty 23-year-old. And, holy shit, could that "climax" continue on any longer?
Nicely shot, though. That's about all I can say in favor of this flick.

Any movie where a vampire sings Metallica while stalking his victims is SHITE in my books. I hated this movie. I didn't have to pay to see it, but GOD whould I like those 90 minutes of my life back.

Haha, Enter Sandman.
The Forsaken: 4/10
This one had ALL of the ripoff and NONE of the fun or charm that Near Dark has. This flick is as much a ripoff of Near Dark as Soul Survivor was a ripoff to Jacobs Ladder.... and I'm not saying ya cant ripoff a previous flick.... but DAMN... be INTELLIGENT, CREATIVE and ENTERTAINING when ya do! ;)
