Very atmopheric. Like a cross between Hell Night and Diabolique. Love the last 20 minutes. Not really gory but has a very cool ending. Actually done by Mark Roseman who was Brian De Palma's cameraman in his early years(Carrie, Dressed To Kill). Check it out but it is dated(very 80's cheese).

I actually just watched sunday for the first time. And while I'll agree that it was just sort of your average fun slasher, It bored me in a lot of places.

The whole thing just screamed "been there, done that", only not in a good way. I just didn't find it all that exciting. Although there is a shot of some fantastic breasts in the beginning.

anyways, the other thing that bothered me a lot was the fact that almost every kill was with a cane, it got reeeal redundant and annoying.

Oh, and I fucking hated the ending. It was so open and nonsensical...

I'd say 2 1/2 out of 5.

THE HOUSE ON SORORITY ROW (1983) Directed by Mark Rosman. A group of sorority sisters accidentally kill their cruel house mother when a mean-spirited prank goes awry, and the old woman's demented son seeks revenge during a graduation bash held at the title location. Among the cast of lovely ladies, Kathryn McNeil (MONKEY SHINES) stands out as the heroine, as does Eileen Davidson as the clique's bitchy ring-leader. One of the better early 80's slashers, with a cool killer costume (jesters are distant cousins to evil clowns), creepy setting, violent spree killings and a knockout cliffhanger ending! Shades of DIABOLIQUE, BLACK CHRISTMAS and Italian giallo horror films are evident, but this slasher is a “cut above the rest”. My grade: B

I picked up this one on dvd last year. I am glad I did. Very underrated slasher from the 80's.

Like many have said, this is a better than average slasher with higher production values than you would expect. The acting is all pretty good here and you can tell Rosman had picked up a few tricks working with Depalma. The killer was pretty creepy and it has been noted many times that this inspired the "I Know What You Did" series of films. When people say that this is cliched and "Been there, done that" you have to remember this came out before most of the movies that copied it. I would go out on a limb and definately call this the best sorority slasher movie out there. Check this out if you get the chance fellow schmoes who have not seen this unknown little gem.

7/10

I can see why some people enjoyed it, but to compare it to Black Christmas is borderline blasphemy.

Black Christmas was one of the best slashers ever, if not the best, and this one is nowhere near it.

Cheesy fun yes, classic no

I'm gonna have to disagree. Even though I like Black Christmas and I think it's an okay slasher flick, I thought it was too long and had way too much filler in between the blood and guts, which made the flick seem a tad boring. I'm gonna take Sorority Row over this one any day.

Hey guys and gals, well its been a long time since I posted this topic, but I was at a flea market yesterday and some old man with three teeth had this in his little corner on DVD for 3 bucks so I bought it, Flea Markets are scary but they are really scary when you live in Tennesee and you have to go deep in the mountains in the middle of nowhere to these big flea market factory looking places, but I picked up this film, Funhouse on DVD, and a Halloween poster from the 70's! AND I got all of that for like 10 bucks! I'm so happy...anywho I will let you know if this film was any good...c-ya

No self-respecting slasher completist should be without this in his/her collection...I love 80's slashers and this one was no exception.....

saw it a long time ago (back in the fall of 80's if I remember well). Decent slasher, not very gpry, sometimes quite boring but well acted and directed.

This is my FAVORITE slasher of all time! I LOVE this movie! It's got a great story (original for it's time), above-average acting (minus a character or two), it's well-paced, has a great body count with cool deaths, and it's incredibly well-directed. It has great atmosphere too. The ending is completely show-stopping! I'm glad they never made a sequel (it just wouldn't have worked). I LOVE this movie! Definitely worth a see!

SPOILERS FOR HOUSE ON SORORITY ROW!!!

Hey you! Yeah you reading this. I just want to let you know that I Know What You Did at The House on Sorority Row.

Yeah there are definitely similarities between the two films. It was pretty clear who I Know What You Did Last Summer was influenced by. House on Sorority Row is a funnier and funner film than IKWYDLS ever was though. Here's an example:

Nothing can prepare you for what happens when she fights back.

Where nothing is off limits

Welcome Home...to the Sorority of your nightmares.

Sorority sisters... Sisters in life. Sisters in death.

Four taglines and they're all shitty? Ha ha ha ha ha haha.

The thing I liked best about Sorority Row was Kate MacNeil as Katey Rose. GOD was she cute. She reminded me a lot of Erin Daniels for some reason. Very girl next door-ish. She is also the ex-wife of George Romero. Lucky guy...

So these sorority girls kill the house mother and then decide to let her rot in a pool. They have a good reason though. They don't want to go to jail. What a bunch of bitches. Not that it really bothers me. The old hag was a bitch herself so I guess she had it coming. How do they decide to drown their sorrows while the old bag drowns in the pool? They throw the most bitching party on this side of the 80's!

These girls picked just about the most inopportune time to do away with Mrs. Slater and they're going to find out why the hard way. Her son just so happened to be released from an asylum or something the very same day. When he stops by the house and finds his mothers corpse things start to get ugly.

The film actually manages some cool kills but my complaint is that they're all done with the old lady's cane. The cane is pretty awesome, yes, but overused. I was surprised they got away with some of the stuff they did during a time when the MPAA seemed to have an iron clamp on every horror film being released. Severed head in the toilet. CLASSY!

It was a little too giallo-ish in parts but I think House on Sorority Row is actually a better film than I gave it credit for last night. The finale was complete garbage though. SEQUEL ANYONE?!

House on Sorority Row - 7/10

Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.
