View Full Version : Friday the 13th part 4: A tribute to Halloween???

Ok, maybe I'm just going nuts, but when I saw Friday the 13th part 4 yesterday, I was thinking that it had some tribute scenes to Halloween 1 and 2....

Some scènes which are very Halloween-like:

1) In the beginning, the annoying "male nurse" asks his girlfriend to meet him in "the cold room"...It reminded me of the scene in Halloween 2.

2) Jason who makes a hole in the door with an axe (in the final scenes), just like Michael Myers did with a knife in Halloween (ok, maybe THIS wasn't a tribute scene...it's a very "normal" thing to do when you're a killer hunting some kids)

3) Trish commands Tommy to run away, when she realizes Jason is out there...Just like Laurie did with Tommy and Lindsey in Halloween (and the boy also is named "Tommy"! )

I think there where some other scenes, but I don't remember them...

But what do you guys think??? Does it make sense, or is it just coïncidence??

Sounds like it might have had some influence, but probably just coincidence....or is it???

I think it is just a coincidence, but maby Friday the 13th Part 4 was really a tribute to the movie that created it all. Maby, maby not. Guess we'll never know for sure

Peace,
Matt

I admire the comparisons and subtle likenesses. Maybe we should ask screenwriter Barney Cohen what he had in mind there!

I don't know, Friac. I just don't see it.

1. This is probably a coincidence.

2. Well, if you had an ax and were trying to get into a door...what would you do?

3. Any authoritative or protective figure worth their salt would make it their first priority to ensure the safety of whomever they're guarding (especially if they're guarding a child). If you had a kid brother and your house was being attacked by a killer...what would you do?

But I could be off-base, of course.

kinda agree with coincidence. many films based on the same type of thing i.e. killer chasing ppl with sharp weapon is gonna have some similar scenes. Would be nice to think friday13th was paying tribute, but more along the lines :

"door. guy with axe. how des he get through it? ah...."
more than
"How did michael myers get through a locked door? right copy that"

still, could be wrong :)

I'd say it was coincidence. I mean Halloween is better than FT13th 4 but it was a great movie. I don't think they had to rip anything off from Halloween. Besides Jason breaks through a door with an axe in FT13th 3 also.

Halloween no doubt had an indirect influcence on Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. By this time so many films had used Carpenter's formula that everyone else was doing the same thing automatically. For all we know, the creative team of Friday 4 might not even have seen it.

This movie was made in the HAYDAY of slashers.. pick any movie and you can see these cliches repeat themselves..

The Fog. Those ghost pirates broke through the door like in Halloween. The old lady tells that kid to go in his room and lock his door. As said before this was just the formula for most 80's slashers set by John Carpenter.

Yeah exactly what CYCLONUS said. FRIDAY THE 13th PART 4 is one of my favourite movies ever and HALLOWEEN 1 and 2 are up there as well. I've seen all of them at least 8 times each and I didn't ever think F13 was ripping off the HALLOWEENS in the copying scene sense. But of course by that time all slashers had that similar feel.

I also believe its coincidence. You can't sweat the small stuff like that. If it were something more concrete then surely I would agree with you (like if one of the characters names was Strode). Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Ive always felt a resemblence between F13 part 4 and Halloween 2...but mostly because of the hospital setting during the first act of F13 part 4. but I dont see it as anything big.

Well, I'm positive Tommy Jarvis is an homage to Tommy Doyle, but the rest were pretty much "standard fare" by 1984.

I agree. A lot of 80's slashers had a lot of elements found in Halloween 2.

i believe they all have simular things like the hospital settins and they names and the out doors and camping settings and shit like that but i know this has nothing to do with haloween 4 and F13 4 but friday the 13th jason X was shit u cant just take and classic old horror movie and turn it into 2002 space shit arrrggg it makes me mad they better not do that with sleepaway camp and hallowenn and friday the 13th .... thats all for now later Tarabera

That reminds me. One time there was a thread about the similarities between Friday 2 and Halloween II. Most interestingly, both films have a cop being hammered in the head by a killer. That had to be intentional (both came out the same year).

I also believe its coincidence. I also belive Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter is one of the funniest goddamn movies ever. It even beats out so called comedies that star Martin Lawerance and Jim Belushi. It should be in the comedy section. Classic crap.
