There are many types of War movies. WWII, Vietnam, Cival War, and kind of Adventure type.

Vietnam films seem to be the best overall. Platoon, Apocalypse Now, Full Metal Jacket, Born on the Fourth of July, Coming Home, We Were Soldiers...all good films. I haven't seen The Deer Hunter (it's Number 1 on my must-rent list) but I hear it's great.
