I'm certainly not the only anime fan here, so I couldn't possible be the only Bebop fan...at least I hope to God not.

Anyway, I've been waiting for the arrival of the English dub of CB: The Movie ever since I picked up a pre-release copy *cough*bootleg*cough at GenCon last year, and since the dub premiered at the Big Apple Anime Fest last August. Even though it's a limited release that's not even coming to my city (unless I road trip to Madison WI), I'm drooling in anticipation.

For those of you with no clue what I'm babbling about, Cowboy Bebop is an anime series...No, let me amend that. Cowboy Bebop is THE anime series! The story goes something like this; in the year 2071, four bounty hunters - Spike, Jet, Faye, and Edward - traverse the galaxy in constant search of work, food, and money...with varied results. The movie starts with a madman setting off a tanker truck explosion in the middle of a busy freeway. The goverment puts a massive bounty on the perp's head, so the Bebop crew sets off to find him. Of course, matters become much more complicated upon further inspection.

I highly recommend this movie, even if you're not a Bebop fan, an anime fan, or an animation fan period. Like the TV series, the movie is episodic, so you don't necessarily have to have seen the series to know the characters...but I'll admit, it does help.

The official website's got all the info, including what cities it's playing in: http://www.cowboybebopthemovie.com

USELESS TRIVIA: The full name of the movie is actually "Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door", but thanks to some copyright disputes (thank you Bob Dylan!), Columbia Tristar had to shorten it to the just "Cowboy Bebop: The Movie". Lame.

About damn time! I have been waiting for this ever since i first saw the series on cartoon network.(now own the boxed set.)

Its one of the best Cartoon shows with its jazzy/classic/bebop tone and the movie is a badass extension of its coolness.

I normaly dislike Anima but this movie(and series) blew me away.

Sounds cool. Thanx for the heads up.
Definitely will check it out.

BTW, any celebrities involved in voicing the characters?

Uuuuhhh...no. But, you've more than likely heard these same voice-over artists from other animes, or even from TV or radio ads.

At first I was not interested in Cowboy Bebop, although I am an anime fan this is one anime I would not watch for the longest time because I thought the title was really lame. But soon after I read this post I decided to just give it a try. Well, I just got through watching the entire series and all I can say is DAMN! That was awesome. Definitely one of the best animes out there. I never expected Cowboy Bebop to be this good. Does anyone know if there is a season 2?

One thing does have me confused about this movie though

****Series Spoilers****

In the series Spike died (in a kick ass ending that John Woo would be proud of :D), and Ed & Ein both left, so how are they all in this movie?

The movie takes place in the middle of the series when they are all together.

The series only ran one season because the creator felt that it was best to quit while they were ahead and that every thing they wanted to tell had been told.

That is one of the reasons i love it so much, it didnt slowly whimper out like the simpsons and other series that go on for 7 seasons and get stale but went as it came, with a bang!

All I can say is: Fuck yeah.

Probably the best-written and best directed anime series in the history of television (did I say "probably"? Fuck that, better change it to "most defenitely"). Although the studios may not be aware of it, the american Bebop following is very solid and a well planned limited release of the film is sure to be profitable.

I've seen the first 13 of these. For some reason I never got around to the last. Probably partially because, in all honestly, I was a bit letdown with the first 10. They were good, but not all they had been cracked up to be, IMO.. The one where Spike gets in the gunfight was excellent though, and the one with the weird creature on the ship was very amusing though. Heard it picks up after the halfway point quite a bit though, so I'm going to attempt to locate them soon.

Oh yeah, for those who haven't, see Trigun. That takes the cake as the best anime of all time, IMO... Course, I've only seen 9 or 10 different anime :D

Yes, Cowboy Bebop started as a 26-episode TV series that debuted in Japan back in 1998. The movie takes place between episodes 22 and 23 of that series.

Sounds like the above doesn't know a lot about anime, so I'll make a quick explanation.

Most anime are TV shows (with 13 or 26 episodes, a new one shown once every other week in Japan). The difference between them and standard TV is they are often designed as a single season, with everything created all at once, so they often function much more like a movie then a TV show. There are also anime movies, of course.

Are you talking about me or the guy who asked if Bebop was a TV show? Because I happen to be very familiar with the 26-ep pattern of anime shows (I have five of them in my collection, y'know).

Also, fantastic to see Joblo.com's giving Bebop the "Coming Soon!" treatment. That trailer does kick some ass, doesn't it?

I was going to start a thread for this, good thing I checked first.

Why oh why didn't they do a wide release for this? *sigh* I guess I'll wait for the DVD.

I'll just have to pass the time by getting DVDs of the series.

If i ever see this movie voluntarily, it's because i've lost all will to live, and need that something extra to push me entirely over the edge and bludgen myself to death by slamming my head into my armrest repeatedly

What was the point of posting this in here?
