Has anyone seen this? It came out last year. And i just noticed JoBlo had posted it in the New Trailers section. It was even made in my State and i had no Clue about it. I watched the trailer it it reminded me of Requim for a Dream. Very twisted looking, but definatly looks interesting. If anyone has seen it, could someone give a review?

p.s. hey Lindsey, have you heard anything about it? It says it was made in Eugene, Oregon.

Saw the trailer for this movie and think it looks great! Jason Schwartzman is a fab actor (Rushmore being one of my fav. movies) and it's good to see Mena Suvari looking like shit for once! Good on her! This movie looks like one hell of a ride... lets just hope they release it in Aussie-land!

Wow, I've never actually heard of this film until now darkface. It sounds like a great movie with an all-star cast.

But I'm laughing at the fact the story's set in Eugene, and everyone seems to be on drugs. Ah, that's Eugene for ya! :)

I just saw the trailer. It looks like it might be pretty interesting, or it might just be trying to copy what Requiem For a Dream did.

The trailer also reminded me of Requiem for a Dream, but this one seems enven more fucked up than the latter. I'll probably try to catch it at least on video when it comes out.

Requiem for a Dream?

Naw.

I watched an unofficial trailer for this movie that was released probably 9 months ago, and I assure you it's much more comedic than Requiem was (which it wasn't). The trailer was about 4 minutes long too, so I definately saw enough to know what I'm talking about.

The trailer was VERY raunchy, and very funny.

My friend and I can't wait (and we've BEEN waiting for 9 or so months).

Saw Spun lat night at an advanced screening at the Landmark (http://www.landmarktheatres.com/Market/NewYork/NewYork_frameset.htm).

If you've ever wanted to see the kid from Almost Famous in a Larry Clark movie crossed with the hyper-reality of Requiem for a Dream, then look no further. Spun is an unrated trip through crystal addiction with a lot of strong performances by an eclectic cast, but it faintly reeks of "been-there, done-that" syndrome.

Not that it's not entertaining as it goes along. A few days in the lives of various speed freaks produces all sorts of sleaze: Masturbation, phone sex, zits, rotting teeth, bowel movements, naked obesity, bondage, squalor, trashy reality TV, animation, pornography, animated pornography, and so on.

Ross is Max Fischer (Jason Schwarzbaum), who falls into the role of a chauffer of the local kingpin manufacturer of speed, dubbed the Cook (Mickey Rourke, in the film's most realized performance), who's with Nikki (Brittany Murphy), who's overly concerned with the well-being of Taco, her green dog. Her best friend is Cookie (Mena Suvari), who's the girlfriend of the local drug distributor (John Leguizamo). Almost Famous' Patrick Fugit, looking like he'd be right at home in Gummo, is the naive punk wannabe who is forced by the cops to rat on his supplier. On the fringes are Rob Halford, Debbie Harry, a fey Eric Roberts, and Dr. Giggles himself, Larry Drake. Meanwhile, Ross has got a stripper chained bare-ass naked to his bed while he drives both the Cook and Nikki around town, taking care of his professional needs and her neuroses and penchant for snorting crystal.

But this plot doesn't really matter. Spun seems more concerned to ape the visual ideas of Requiem for a Dream, like the dialated pupils and jumps in sound effects. It doesn't exactly imitate Requiem, but the similarity is more than a coincidence. And I'll mention again the animation. Think Ralph Bakshi's orgiastic imagination, and you'll begin to know just how gloriously perverted some of the whacked-out imagery is.

Spun is certainly not boring, but it goes on too long. There's only so many visual effects one can withstand before all the visual volume becomes noise. But if you're craving Kids meets Trainspotting, Spun is quite an entree.

7/10
