The first time I saw Evil Dead I had to cut through a big wooded area to get home. Scared the shit out of me! My favorite scene isn't a gory scene, it's the scene when they are walking up to the cabin and the swing is banging against the wall. It just builds suspense so well and creates the creepy mood that fills the rest of the film.

Yes EVIL DEAD is cutting edge hell even now I found EVIL DEAD 2 to pretty good but no where as good or as chilling as the first.
The comdey came into it's own in ARMIES OF DARKNESS but I have always prefered the darker side to the EVIL DEAD films.

Call me a sap but... My fav. scene from EVIL DEAD is when Ash is about to use the chainsaw on his girlfriend and then sees the necklace she has on her neck as a reminder of their relationship.

I don't agree that it necessarily closes the series. I see room for another sequel featuring a bunch of future earth survivors lead by Ash trying to survive in a world that has been taken over by the Evil Dead.
