OK so I'm a BIG fan of Hammer movies but it would be interesting to see some of them remade for the modern audience . My top 5 remakes as follows .

1 Quatermass And The Pit . A truly original story which would look amazing with todays effects . Starring Clint Eastwood as Quatermass .

2 The Devil Rides Out . One of the best films EVER on devil worship. Plus Christopher Lee could reprise his role as he's now closer to the characters true age in the novel .

3 The Gorgon . A really atmospheric little tale which would benefit greatly from some new age technology . Winona Ryder in the title role .

4 Hands Of The Ripper . One of Hammers unsung masterpieces and a good excuse for much bloodshedding. Hugh Grant as the Dr.

5 The Legend Of The Seven Golden Vampires . Hammer and Kung Fu .It did'nt work very well then but now with Ronny Yu at the helm it would be great fun .

Anyway that's my little bit of daydreaming . Not that any remake would come close to the originals but , as I said , it would be fun .
Any thoughts ?

You know who ever gets up there ass and does this today will probably be rolling in the dough in no time! This is a great idea! Remake the best hammer films! Nice thread Cushing!

Id like to see Curse of the Werewolf! That film would kick ass with todays make up effects!

I love hammer films. But Eastwood as Quatermass? I always thought Donald Sutherland would make a great Quatermass...ruthless, cold, etc. I still think John Carpenter should tackle all three Quatermass films.

The Plague of the Zombies would be a great atmospheric tale mixing voodoo with bringing the dead back to life. Enslaving the dead for laboring purposes is a solid idea. Although I am usually against remakes I would like to see a Zombie movie on the screen with simple effects (not overblown) and being very subtle. Of course they would have to distribute Zombie eyeglasses at the entrance of the theater like they did back in the sixties. Even if the remakes fail miserably the original film will always be there for our viewing pleasure.

I was always a fan of Vampire Circus. Cheesy as fuck, but it'd be interesting to see a remake.

Thats a good call! Ive seen some previews to it, and it looks really spooky and eerie, specially those scenes with those skeletons coming out of the ground! Simple yet effective! :D

How about Dracula AD 1972 recast as Austin Powers vs. Dracula, starring Mike Myers?

Well, if "Creeping Flesh" is a Hammer film, then deffinetly this.... And even if not a Hammer film, it sertainly deserves a remake....

I like the Austin Powers idea , that would be groovy baby...yeah .
The Creeping Flesh was'nt Hammer but I agree it would make a good remake .

No Hammer film should be remade. The good ones still hold up today and the crap ones don't deserve a remake. Horror of Dracula was Hammer's best. Also alot of their films were remakes or re-imaginations of older films so remaking a Hammer film would be a remake of a remake and that would be ridiculous.

No way...no way you taint sacred soil when purpose to remake Hammer it's pointless it's like a remake of universal films.
There is a point to films becoming old and that's so the new ones can progress into evolution.
Fine if you want to take insperation from old ideas but you have to balance that up with original elements.
If we spend more time on reworking master peices and ignoring the engine of innovation then nothing fresh is going to come from anywhere.
I am a big HAMMER fan but I think it would make better sense to make a werewolf film or vampire film that makes you see the legend with a new twist.
The only limits are in your mind;)

Oh, yeah!! Though Hugh's a bit young to play the Doctor...perhaps Anthony Hopkins.

If anyone was going to re-make a Hammer film, I'd prefer my personal favourite, "Countess Dracula". Though I can't decide who would play Countess Bathory...Julianne Moore, or Winona Ryder, perhaps? I don't think anyone in horror today can match Ingrid Pitt's "eye-popping" performance... ;)

I'm pleased to see so many Hammer fans out there . I understand why some people are so opposed to remakes but I would still like to see it happen . If anything it would encourage some newer horror fans to seek out the originals and , as I said earlier , it could'nt hurt the originals .
I've been a fan for over 30 years now and have been lucky to meet almost everyone I could connected to Hammer from camera operators and stuntmen to people like Jimmy Sangster , Veronica Carlson and Christopher Lee . The films that these people made are precious to me and all true Hammer fans .
The idea of remakes , whilst a bit of fun for this forum , is very much a possibility . The Quatermass films are being circulated amongst the studios and The Devil Rides Out has been discussed at length with a certain living legend . Whether any of these see the light of day no one can say but if they do I predict a renewed interest from the younger generation who may have only glimpsed at Hammers past glories .
