Plot:

Elizabeth, a prize-winning student, is headed for a prestigious college. As she's packing to leave, her mother harangues her about her choice of school, establishing the modus operandi for what
will prove to be the turbulent core of their relationship: An ongoing game of emotional extortion. When Elizabeth arrives at university, she quickly befriends her roommate Ruby and almost immediately recreates the same powder keg she has just left behind. The situation is exacerbated by her visits to a rather suspicious psychiatrist. Matters deteriorate further when
Elizabeth runs into her father and when she decides that her most recent boyfriend Rafe represents deliverance. Her only choice, ultimately, is Prozac - the wonder drug of the nineties - but before long, Elizabeth is wondering whether the drug is running her life.

I really want to see this movie. I've wanted to see it ever since I first heard about it. I'm glad it's finally getting released, since it's been pushed back so many times. It kind of reminds me of Girl, Interrupted, but I think Prozac Nation will be better. For some reason I just like movies about depressed characters. This one has a good cast, and I think it should be a pretty solid film.

I'd see this one in theaters, but it probably won't go wide enough for it to play around here. So if I can't see it in theaters, I will for sure rent it on video.

What does everyone else think?

I'm intrigued to see this film version of Elizabeth Wurtzel's book. The book itself was a fascinating yet somewhat self-righteous read.

I'll definetly be checking Prozac Nation out. I can only hope that the film is as close to the book as it possibly can be.

Don't know about this flick. Reminds me a bit of The Rules of Attraction. But it doesn't really scream out anything for me. I will possibly check this one out.

I'm a huge fan of hers.. But apparently this is just based on a few chapters from the book, so how they're going to develope her character to people who know nothing about her is beyond me.. Maybe some cheesy cliche flashbacks and whatnot.. Elizabeth Wurtzel says the movie sucked, so I'm not exactly expecting much. Though I'll definitely be first in line to see it, just incase..

I'm not sure why it's just coming out when it was released in 2001, but it looks like one of those films I'd enjoy. Not brilliant or anything that will change cinematic history, just fun.

I've read 4 reviews and it seems to be a very divisive movie. Real love it or hate it stuff. I'm a huge fan of Christina Ricci's, I've said it before and I'll say it again i think (particularly now she's directing) she could be this generations Jodie Foster. I'm looking forward to Przac Nation, and have been for some time but I may just have to blind buy the dvd as it does not appear to have a UK distribution deal as yet.

Let me know how it is.

Although I thought the book was great, an interesting portrait of depression in the vain of The Bell Jar...I just don't think the movie will be all that great...The power of the book relies on its amazing insight into the depths of mental illness, and I don't think it will communicate well in a movie- There isn't so much of a strong plot with climatic scenes and all, it's just Wurtzel's writing that is captivating. I'm not expecting much of the movie at all, since all the reviews I've read weren't so good...I recommend the book though.

Never read the book, but this movie looks really good. I really hope it gets into a semi-wide release so it gets to me!

I have no idea how they're going to make a good movie out of this. Emotional turmoil of this sort is good on the printed page, but I get the feeling that the lack of a coherent plot - or the need for a plot - will lead to a boring film, or one that's very unlike the book. The book is unadaptable, pretty much, in the same way as Naked Lunch was. And the film of Naked Lunch cheated by taking certain elements of the book and making a semi-coherent plot from it - in the same way as Prozac Nation the film seems to be doing.
