This should be in General Horror Talk, as it's not about a specific title.
So, until it gets moved I'll say "A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET" (1984).
A classic film, and a great commentary on the disc.

Try Dead Alive, it has as much gore as you can jam into one movie. I will probably wait a bit to put up any reviews in the video capsules forum till I can think of something appropiate to say.

Well there are tons of great older movies on DVD but you cannot rent those at the video store. If u are going to rent you should try Frailty or Donnie Darko.
If u want to buy some good cheap dvd's try these:
The Fog--its worth it to see the good picture quality and the brilliant musical score. There are also some decent retakes with the actors and Carpenter included screwing up their parts
Phantasm--this baby is packed with extras such as deleted scenes, TV and video promos, extra audio tracks, Fangoria promos and convention footage, interview with Coscarelli, etc
The Prowler---Oh baby the picture quality is so much better on this than the vhs. The death scenes are so much clearer and it gives them an even more grisly feel (ie-the bayonette through head) It even has a behind the scenes gore footage with Tom Savini. Plus if u have a good sound system the musical score sounds great on this dvd.

Interview With the Vampire (9.5/10) and Sleepy Hollow (10/10) are my two favorite horror movies. Both films have interesting stories and kick-ass cinematography. Sleepy Hollow features some flawless visuals while Interview has amazing aptmosphere. Check both of those out. By the way, Frailty (6/10) was the most overrated movie of the year (haven't been that let down since Memento (5/10)). Blade II (9/10) is a wicked movie too.

Tell me you did NOT just say that.
Frailty told a genuinely chilling and disturbing story that didn't leave any loose ends hanging. Bill Paxton did a fine job with the directing and the acting was top notch. I'd give it an 8/10 easily.
But then, I hated Sleepy Hollow. Found it too cartoonish. To each his/her own, I guess.
But back on topic, give Brotherhood of the Wolf a try. Great action, some good scares, awesome cinematography. I saw this one in theaters and just got the 3-disc special edition DVD (only available from Canadian stores - damnable U.S. distributors...).

*SPOILERS!*
Sorry dude, but I still think Bill Paxton just isn't that great of an actor. He is a very good driector as the directing in this movie couldn't have been more effective. It was just the storyline. It started out very cool but once the angel told the father that the son was a demon, this film dropped from a solid 8/10 to 1 7/10 and then when Matthew McCohnaghy said he was actually the other brother, it dropped to a 6/10.

Most of time your DVD's are better developped and produced.
I mean the Zone 1 DVD's.
You have more bonus materials than us, poor europeans.

I would try Frailty.
You might actually enjoy it or you might not.
If you are into real serial killers you might want to pick up Ted Bundy, Dahmer and Ed Gein.

I'm totally with rushmore beauty regarding FRAILTY. I thought Paxton was LAUGHABLE in it. Not to say that he's a bad actor...he's done some of my favorite characters (Chet in Weird Science, Hudson in Aliens, Severen in Near Dark), but he was downright BAD in Frailty.
Anyhoo, back on topic...I'd say go for Brotherhood of the Wolf. Awesome flick! If you're not in the mood for a 2.5 hour movie, go for Blade II. An absolutely ROCKIN' flick.

Frailty- 10/10
Creepy horror flick with an awesome cast and kick ass story.
Blade II- 10/10
Action packed, gore laden thrill ride!
Session 9- 10/10
If you dug The Shining most likely you'll get a kick out of this disturbing flick. Extremely creepy and well made.
Dagon- 10/10
Stuart Gordon adapted this H.P. Lovecraft story with amazing skill and style. It's scary, gory with lots of nudity.
Devil's Backbone- ?
I've heard great things.
Vampires: Los Muertos- 7/10
Forget that the first was kick ass and view this fun gore flick as a stand alone, it's fun times. Oh and Bon Jovi sucks big time compared to the amazing James Woods.
Brotherhood of the Wolf- 10/10
Wow, kung fu, action, gore, nudity and period peice all roled into one. Check this one out!

Did I happen to rent another version of Dagon?
I thought it was horrible.
I caught myself hitting the fast forward button in hopes of something good.
I thought the chase scenes where pointless at times.
Were the things chasing the main character fish/men or were they zombies? They should have called this film Dagon: Zombies of the sea!
Luckily the monster types were too damn slow and retarded to really do any damage.
The dialogue wasn’t interesting.
I wanted to murder the main character myself for being such an idiot.
I think the only scary thing about the movie was finding a good point to it.
I actually liked the plot twist at the end.
But this is only my opinion.
Check it out for yourself.
