View Full Version : ? about The Fly II
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!
At the end of The Fly, Ronnie is prepared to get an abortion when Brundlefly bursts in & takes her away. This sets off a chain of events which leads to Ronnie sobbingly blowing his brains out. From this, I was led to believe that she still intended to get an abortion once she got over the trauma of killing her lover.
At the beginning of The Fly II, however, we see Ronnie apparently giving birth(I don't speak from experience, but I'd think she'd be sedated if she was getting an abortion). Not only that, but her labor is being supervised by Bartok Industries, which financed Brundle's work.
The question is, did Ronnie change her mind about the abortion after killing Brundle? And, if so, why did she go straight to his bosses? Wouldn't any old hospital have been sufficient?

The film doesn't really explain why she choose not to get an abortion, or how she ended up at Bartok Industries. I guess the filmmakers just didn't care about these details. Still, The Fly II isn't really as awful as most critics made it out to be, until the dreadful last act.

Well, up to a point it was a decent movie, if you don't constanly compare it to the superior Cronenberg original. I thought that Eric Stoltz was actually quite good in the lead, very sympathetic. However, it just falls apart in the final act, as the film loses focus of his characterization and just becomes another tired Alien retread. At that point, it seems more like direct-to-video fodder than anything else--despite being backed by a major studio (Twentieth Century Fox). God forbid there should be a third film, which would probably end up being even worse.
Nontheless...I felt sorry for that poor dog. With that in mind, the very last scene is bitterly ironic (and depressing).

I always had the impression that Bartok Industries kidnapped her and forced her to have the baby.

I like FLY 2 but the big mistake it made was to divert the bitter tragedy of the tale FLY 2 turns into a cable film toward the end and even thougth this doesn't spoil it for me too much I do think with a different ending this could have ended up as being a little gem.
There wasn't enougth twists in this film for me you know what's going to happen even if you wish for something else.
However that half-melted dog is a sweet little touch micro-wave ovens can be real bastards can't they he he...:p

Well if you ask me The Fly II ending is preatty decent. I mean we get a crushed head with an elevator (ooooooh that had to hurt) we get a melted face via fly vomit (wow that scene was awesome) we get to see some guys spine get broken into like three pieces, plus we get the major bad guy turned into a really gross looking pile of...I dont know what that was, but it was gross. Hey thats preatty decent for a monster movie, wich is what The Fly II.
But thats just me and I could be horribly wrong.
Spacemonkey outta here! :D

I only caught the ending of The Fly II 'cos I was watching Aliens on DVD (forgot how f*cking great that film was) but man I have never seen such gore. That face melting scene with the fly spit was chuffing cool, he was pulling his face off and such. Guy's head is crushed on an elevator and the sick twisted boss monster thingy. Goddamnit!!!! I wondered to meself what the chuff am I watching??? It was sick, but in a good way or bad? Anyways, weird thing was I stomached it all. I thought I couldn't stomach stuff like that but I did. I'm so proud :D

Watched this again and really found myself liking it now. I like the ending. I was cheering at the head crush and acid face deaths. Kewl !!!
The dog was unbearably sad. And so was Bartok at the end even though it's poetic justice at its most bittersweet.

Same here. And like the rest of you, I thought "The Fly II" was good for a needless sequel. I didn't have a problem with the last act - although granted it goes for gore rather than character development - but I did have a problem with the film's inclusion of stock villains put there just to menace Brundlefly Jr. The head guard was a dick for no reason other than the movie required a dick to hassle the main character.

I liked the fly2 it was good. Not as good as the cronenberg one but still a great one. I hear many of you insulting the last act of the film but I thought it was great. It's what every horror film should have for an ending, a gore soaked finale between the good and the bad.

Watched it last week and it is good for a needless sequel. The last act was great - so much gore! The face melt was class! I just loved the way his jaw was opening and closing...:p

Hey Killer Klown, I agree this flicks ending is gore filled! Just rented it yesterday, in account of this thread...and loved it as much as when I saw it the first time.
What I dont understand is why everyone keeps calling it a needless sequel! At the end of the first film, Brundles girl is left pregnant! The fate of the telepods was uncertain...all these questions needed answering...and part two was there to answer them.
Some people say the enjoyed the first half of the film, but the ending sucked? Why? It seems to me the whole film cant be about character development! We need fx, we need gore and action! And this movie delivers a little bit of both. Cause it has excellent character development all through out the first half and satasfies our horror needs on the last.
But thats just me, and I could be horribly wrong..

Well, I was surprised when this film came out as I felt that everything was concluded in the first film - Agreed that Ronnie was pregnant, but it was possibly before Brundle was genetically changed. The telepods were pretty much screwed at the end of the first film as didn't the control unit get blown up? I can't remember.....

I'm with you there! I was waiting the entire film to see some gore and my blood-lust was eventually satisfied...:p
