This is one of Toho's best attempts at a kaiju flick and it also happens to be their first monster movie in COLOR.

Several miners have been disappearing and the source of the trouble are prehistoric insects called Meganeuron. These malevolent creatures have been feasting on miners until a new threat appears. In the bowels of a cave, a giant egg begins to hatch. A baby pteranodan of gigantic proportions hatches and the Meganeurons find themselves to be the meal of this ancient reptile. A man who witnessed the Rodan hatching from the egg ends up in the hospital and no one believes his story. Soon a fully-grown Rodan surfaces and begins to attack Japan blowing things away with enormous windstorms and destroying jets with its supersonic vibrations. Shortly after, a second Rodan appears, which happens to be the mate.

The Rodan suit used in this film is the best one that's ever appeared on film. The Meganeuron scenes scared me as a kid because of how vicious they were. I loved the scenes of the jets chasing Rodan. The climax is saddening because of the fate that falls upon Rodan and his mate.

HOLY SHIT! YOU'VE NEVER HEARD OF RODAN???

Wow.That is a huge surprise. This is the Big G-Man's best pal next to Mothra. I love this film and sometimes think it holds up better than the original G-Man himself.

Love the sound effects. You guys do know they were making new Rodan movies aside from the G-Man and Mothra ones they've done?
Wish we could get those on the big screen.

I've always been fond of Rodan's simplistic, yet effective design. I'll have to look into this film. When was it made? I'm assuming the early '60s?

Actually, there are no new Rodan films. Rodan made a modern appearance as Fire Rodan in the 1993 film Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla. That was the only new film he's been in. He does deserve some new films, though.

I didn't say they were ones already out I just read that Toho was going to be making Rodan films. I have no idea when but I read an interview with a couple of the old Toho directors and it said they were bringing the old guy back.
