We love to laugh at GRAVEYARD SHIFT, the bad acting and poor budget, the cheap looking rat. The fact that the rats were cute! But everyone fails to mention the best part of this cheesefest:
Evil, SOB, cackling, philandering Warwick (Stephen Macht, or the Macht Daddy to me).
This awful guilty pleasure wouldn't be as much fun without the Macht Daddy, who creates some interesting gestures (the air punch he does when reprimanding Ippeston about his impersonation). His charisma is akin to Gus in Pet Sematery 2, but Macht had far less to work with.
Plus, he affects this weird accent that is half Nor'Easter, half Irish, half Jamaican ("Its goin' to get hot down there darlin'"), whatever else he decided to put in.
Macht and Brad Dourif are the saviours of this abysmal, yet fabulous film.
