It doesn't really bother me but has anyone else recognized the new trend with supporting characters in horror movies being little boys (ie: Darkness falls, The Ring, ect...)? They always seem to know more about what's going on tha the adults do as well as draw a bunch of pictures with crayons......

I think the first little boy playing that type of role in a horror flick was the kid from The Shining. I have noticed that Haley Jole Osment syndrome happening all over again.

well, as long as kids arent annoying and distracting (which is very rare) then I dont mind them one bit.

The little boy The Ring (Japanese version) didn't play as much of a vital part as Aidan in the remake...
And yes, these precocious little kids are getting annoying. Get original.

The little kid in Devils Backbone was spooky...

Don't forget Miko Hughes, who was excellent in Pet Sematery and Wes Craven's new Nightmare...

There's more to the "little boys" thing with horror movies than one would think. Little boys are the spooked ones that may see dead people, and are generally good characters, while "little girls," usually ghosts themselves, are evil ("The Ring" and "Fear Dot Com").

I agree w/boogeyman here. If the kids are good actors and don't get too annoying then it's fine. I thought the kid from The Ring was pretty good. But can anyone explain to me why he calls his mother by her first name the entire movie? What's up with that? :D

It suggests that his relationship with his mother isn't very close and therefore he tends to refer to her as Rachel as he doesn't think she's sufficient as a mother figure.
The only time he refers to her as "mom" is when he's in the car with Noah and Noah tries make an excuse for not being there throughout his life.
NOAH - "Rachel and I were..."
AIDAN - "Young. I know. Mom's told me that before."
I think he says it to kind of rub it in that she was there for him, but Noah wasn't.

It's not really new, though, is it? I mean, look at The Shining, f'rinstance.

Also, has anyone noticed how the kids in horror movies always look sick? I just saw the Ring on Saturday, and the kid in that was a perfect example. His skin was pale, and he had dark circles around his eyes.

Poltergist, Linda blair. they are some of my favorite creepy kids in movies. If they keep them fresh like in Devils Backbone than it is cool I enjoy them but when they try to make it blatent like They then it gets ridiculous. I also like the little dude from dream child (NOES). He looked creepy and so did the kid who played Milo in Milo.
Be good or be good at it
