In "Ringu," when Reiko and Yoichi attend Tomoko's wake, Yoichi kneels in a room with some older men where a photo of Tomoko hangs. He looks at the photo and points to his forehead, between the eyes. Does anyone know whether this gesture has some sort of meaning in Japanese culture, or if it is simply unique to the movie -- i.e. Yoichi is signifying the opening of a psychic "third eye" as some sort of communication with his dead cousin?

I'm really not sure, but I assumed he was opening the psychic link with Tomoko. She does "speak" to him later on in the film, so that's my best guess.

It seems like the most likely explanation for his action if there's no cultural significance.
