Have any of you ever said that. Say if a band or artist you've been following since they were unknown, and then they get more popular and people don't really appreciate them the way they should.

This happened to me with John Mayer. I'd been listening to him for a long long time and I have loved his music, but then he got the hit with 'No Such Thing' and now the Grammy for 'Your Body is a Wonderland' and he's a huge artist. I'm really happy that he is successful, but I'm mad that all of these teeny boppers and people who don't really appreciate him knowing one of his songs, which isnt even his best and acting like he's the next Britney Spears.

Has this happened to anybody else?

It has to me recently actually. I have been a big fan of Dashoard Confessional for a while, and all a sudden Chris has sold like a half million albums, and of course now he is getting some backlash. Jimmy Eat World also to an extent, I loved "Clarity" and then their new cd came out (which I really didn't care for) and everyone loves them, they are on all these damn pop stations. Damnit! They are my band!

I wouldn't say I was hoggish about them but it was really strange to watch how fast blink 182 rose to fame. I used to watch them play used record stores and super small venues. Next thing you know they became mega stars.

It might be wrong, but yeah I have bands that I dont want other people listening to.One of my favorite bands is called Modest Mouse. They arent well known yet,but are getting big in the indie music scene.(or they were.Lately I havent heard about them)

Also,Just the other day,I rented some movies and was watching the previews.During one preview, this song came on.I knew I had it in my CD collection, but I couldnt place exactly who it was.But I still thought "No!This is one of MY songs!I dont want it in a movie!I dont want everyone hearing it,and have it a well known song!"
Then about a minute later,I realized it was from a song by Badly Drawn Boy.After that,I didnt really care that much if it became well known.I am not a huge fan of Badly Drawn Boy(I like only some of his songs, like the one I heard on the preview)

I owned the first Badly Drawn Boy album about 8 months before anyone I knew had even heard of it. I told the world that 'Once Around The Block' would be a number one sensation - it topped tha charts at 69. Later that year, he won the Mercury award and suddenly everyone was raving about him. 'Once Around The Block' was released again and then I knew he wasn't mine anymore..

P.S.My ex-girlfriend and I saw Travis in a pub in Glasgow and said they were going to be huge...if they could stop ripping off Nirvana. This was based solely on hearing 'All I Wanna Do Is Rock' - the only song they go nuts in. Now they couldn't rock a pebble or roll a doughnut.

P.P.S. I still like Travis, mind.

Pulp

They're mine...and ya' can't bloody have 'em.

Mind you, I get the distinct impression that nobody else wants 'em...which is rather disheartening.

One day you'll see the light my friends.

they are an accquired taste dear. u love em or hate em. personally i agree with u, i do like them.

there are so many bands i like that no one else has heard of. the chances of them getting big are quite small though.

however, thinking about it, i did get into Linkin Park about 6 months before anyone else over here had come across them. same with nickelback (oh god i cant believed i admitted that).

I agree with quoth, one has to be into Pulp or not. They're not something one immediately loves. It took me awhile to get into them, BCV, but once I heard This is Hardcore, I was quite taken with them.

As for me, The Goo Goo Dolls were MINE first. I knew who they were before anyone, and loved them for their offbeatness. Now they've just become reprocessed pop icons. :(

Basement Jaxx are my band and if you try to take them away from me, I will have to slaughter you, rip you limb from limb, when I'm finished with you, you wont resemble anything remotley like a human being!

You catch my drift? :D

embrace i have been raving about this band for the last five years,i have everything they have done, been to see them a few times preached the gospel according to the good will out to anyone who would listen for the last few years, and am now bombarding the download tag game with their easy listening instantly memorable tunes, and i must say they have gone down rather well, but alas just as the word is spreading they go and split up,i guess thats life,

i would have claimed to be the first to anounce the genious that was the stone roses, but i think i would have competition with half a million mancs

If the band that you like one day becomes mega popular, dont fret, because once their run as flavor of the week is up, there is a good chance that they may eventually fade back into obscurity and you will again see all the same faces at the shows from back in the day.

I have been a 311 fan for almost 10 years now. When I first started going to see them, they were playing small clubs and no one had heard of them. Gradually they developed a very strong and loyal fanbase and started to play slightly bigger clubs. Then back around 98 or so, they had a couple of huge radio hits with 'Down' and 'All Mixed Up'. It was strange that the band that I had been seeing for awhile who got zero press attention were suddenly big rockstars. Suddenly everyone was a 311 fan. The next couple of tours they sold out the big arenas. But then slowly the attention started to fade (pseudo-fans may have been dissapointed by the followup album Transistor, but I loved it). Now they are back playing the small clubs again.

If one good thing came from 311's rise in popularity, its that they were able to earn some good money that enables them to buy better equipment and recording equipment in order to keep doing what they do best.

Actually it is a little known fact that 311 does draw some influence from Beethov...

Oh never mind.
Sorry, I realize the 311 postings have gotten excessive. I will try to hold back a bit from now on.

But you must admit, the story does apply to this thread.

I'm gonna say Eminem. I was a fan of his before he dropped the Slim Shady LP...I heard the EP and knew he was gonna be massive.

I prefer him back then in 1998, he was funny.
