I mean what year did you LOVE most of the movies that were nominated for Best Picture?
I think 1994 was my personal favorite.It had Pulp Fiction,Forrest Gump,Shawshank Redemption,Quiz Show,and Four Wedding and a Funeral.
I never saw Four Weddings and a Funeral, but all those other movies are among my favorite.I think it has 2 instant classics in Pulp Fiction, and Forrest Gump. Also it seems ShawshanK redemption started off slow in gathering fans, but after a few years that movie gained in popularity.Quiz Show was really good too.
Well,thats my pick.What is yours?

2000 - American Beauty, Boys Don't Cry, Being John Malkovich, Magnolia, The Virgin Suicides were all up for a gong or another. Best year in my memory. Three Kings, I think, may also have been up for something...

1975 had The Godfather: Part II (10/10) and The Conversation (9/10), two brilliant films by Francis Ford Coppola. Furthermore, Chinatown (8/10), The Towering Inferno (7/10) and the wonderful Lenny (9/10).

1997:
As Good as it Gets (10/10)
The Full Monty (7/10)
Good Will Hunting (8/10)
L.A. Confidential (10/10)
Titanic (9/10)
This year sprung to mind for me for two reasons. One, it has two of my 10/10's, and two, I like all five movies. There's usually at least one per year that I don't like.
I agree that 1974 is a good one.

Ummm, you got the first one right.
You're missing The Sixth Sense, Cider House Rules and some others that I forgot.

1999 It is the only year I can recall where I gave all five films a **** rating. American Beauty, The Cider House Rules, The Green Mile, The Insider and The Sixth Sense.

In my opinion the best year collectively was 1939 with Gone with the Wind, The Wizard of Oz, and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.

Dark Victory
Gone With The Wind
Goodbye, Mr. Chips
Love Affair
Mr. Smith Goes To Washington
Ninotchka
Of Mice and Men
Stagecoach
The Wizard of Oz
Wuthering Heights
All great great classic movies!
I also really like 1973:
American Graffiti

74 - 77 also great years. Like Quentin said, the 70's were an excellent decade.
My favorite though is probably 1997. I loved all 5 movies nominated.
1991 would come close, but I only liked Bugsy and I loated The Prince of Tides, so that takes it down a peg.
