There is only one song that brightens my day like no other in the history of music. That song is...
The Charlatans - Over-Rising.
Never feel as happy as when the chorus to this song kicks in..
The most pessimistic song I own is...
Nina Simone - Don't Smoke In Bed
Special mention to Radiohead's 'Killer Cars'
"i'm going out for a drive and it could be the last time you see me alive...couldn't cope if you crashed today...all the things I forgot to say...Oh, wrap me in the back of a truck..."
Annie Hall

Most optimistic song:
Sweet Home Alabama...I don't care if the song itself is happy, I dare you not to get caught up in it, it all its glory.
Late for the gym, will return later with most pessimistic.

Sorry, annie - you're a great chick an' all, but I think 'You Know You're Right' is quite an upbeat little number...
"Things have never been this swell, I have never felt this well"
It's not exactly Liberace but it's catchy!

Here's one I think is optimistic. Not sure about the pessimistic one, though -- no time for that. :)
Ooh Child - The 5 Stairsteps (Stairsteps Five)
Ooh-oo child, things are gonna get easier
Ooh-oo child, things'll get brighter
Ooh-oo child, things are gonna get easier
Ooh-oo child, things'll be brighter
Some day, yeah
We'll put it together and we'll get it all done
Some day
When your head is much lighter
Some day, yeah
We'll walk in the rays of a beautiful sun
Some day
When the world is much brighter
Ooh-oo child, things are gonna be easier
Ooh-oo child, things'll be brighter
Ooh-oo child, things are gonna be easier
Ooh-oo child, things'll be brighter
Some day, yeah
We'll put it together and we'll get it all done
Some day
When your head is much lighter
Some day, yeah
We'll walk in the rays of a beautiful sun
Some day
When the world is much brighter
Some day, some day, some day
We'll get it together and we'll get it all done
Some day
When your head is much lighter
Some day, some day, some day
We'll walk in the rays of a beautiful sun
Some day
When the world is much brighter
Ooh-oo child, things are gonna get easier
Ooh-oo child, things'll be brighter
Ooh-oo child, things are gonna get easier
Ooh-oo child, things'll be brighter
Right now
You just wait and see how things are gonna be
Right now...
