*****POSSIBLE SPOILERS*****

ok, I have heard nothing but bad things about this movie. The wife and I pop it in last night and walked away with mixed feelings. Not having seen the original I cant compare it to anything. I do know they pretty much made this one close to the vest and didnt change much, other than maybe the caliber of the cast.

With that said, on the surface, this is a pretty bad movie. Bad acting, bad dialog, with some pretty glorious shots thrown in. But thats on the surface. I was able to get sucked into the story. I was really surprised by a few things here. First we had Maddon getting smacked around. you just DONT see that in movies. not that its a good thing, but it gave the movie an element that I didnt expect. Second was the "chase and attempted rape" scene. I did not see that coming and it was a tad shocking. This guy is kicking her and throwing her down. It certainly was not what I had expected. This wasnt the FLUFF I thought I was going to see. This movie had "typical storyline" written all over it but it wasnt at all.

But everytime I would get into it something morinic would come along and make me roll my eyes. Whether its Maddona saying I love you Master, or Pepe saying you have to feel it in your soul...it would just take me out of the game.

I think the MAIN reason this movie is hard to swallow (maddona pun intended) is the fact that it is impossible to take Maddona seriously. We cant buy her being a "slave" to anyone. She is the master in anything she has ever done. Its a nobol try to maybe change her perception but even the most unbias person just cant wrap that around there brain.

I did like its abrupt ending. Alot of movies drag things out an extra 15 minutes. This one could have used that time but instead just cut it off. not a bad thing per say, just different.

So overall its a very mixed bag. Like I said on the surface its bad, real bad. but deeper in with moments of rape and cruelty there was a dimention that I didnt think the movie had. So how can I rate it? 5/10? 6/10? 7/10? 1/10? I think I have to go with all of them...

very odd movie.

I love Madonna no matter what she does but the movie Swept Away which I just rented left me empty handed....

SPOILERS

-There were NO chemistry between her and Adriano Gianini
-Her bitchiness did keep me in tune at the begining but why was she behaving like this? 24 hr PMS?
-The movie didnt get u to know her & the rest of the characters meaning Jeanne Tripplehorn was wasting her time being in this movie.
-Madonna suddenly does a 360 and falls for Gianini? Ok Whatever.....
-Tries to convince Gianini that she rather stay lost on the island. Couldn't they run off somewhere?
-And FINALLY, I was Sooooooo pissed off with the ending. When Gianini was a fool to realize the love he had for Madonna buys the ring and asks the lady at the hotel to give this package to her only if shes alone. She was about to but Madonna's husband showed up then he saw the item tucked away. I already knew where the pace was going but why or WHY?!?! Did Madonna turn into a wuss?!?!?! Call me old fashioned but I'm just disapointed w/ the final seconds of the movie. I would given the movie a mere 6 out of 10 but t he shitty ending goes down to a 4.

END OF SPOILERS

I do have to comment that the MTV special that appears on the Special Features where Madonna is interviewing hubby (Guy Ritchie) is worth checkin out. She asks, "Honey, Where Did We Go Wrong With This Movie?!?"

SWEPT AWAY (2002)

It certainly doesn't deserve the horrible things that are being said about it, it's not "THAT" horrible. In fact, I actually liked it and was entertained until the stupid ending. I was shocked when the credits started to roll because it ended so dumbly. Until that point though, I actually had a decent time. I was never really bored and it made me laugh occasionally. Also, Madonna wasn't nearly as bad as I had heard she was in this movie. Her acting was fine and she looked pretty good as well. Call me crazy, but I actually find her attractive.

Overall, I liked it up until the stupid ending. I was going to give it a 7/10 (B-), but because of that ending I must lower my grade. I wasn't sure whether to go with a 6/10 (C+) or a 5/10 (C), but I've come to a decision.

Grade: 6/10 (C+)

In my opinion this film really was as bad as was made out upon its release. I have nothing against Madonna, in fact i admire her for what she has achieved in the music industry. But she sucks as an actress and this film was further proof that she should stick to what she knows...music.

I too am a fan of Madonna, and that in no way means I adore her as an actress. Let's face it, when you have one of the worst movies of the 70s (A Certain Sacrifice... although in her defense it was originally made as a project of some sort), possibly THE worst movie of the 80's (Shanghai Surprise) and definitely one of the worst movies of the 90's (The Next Best Thing), it's a clue that maybe acting isn't your strong point.

That being said however, I enjoyed this movie. Quite a bit actually. I agree that some of the dialogue was hard to swallow (NO Madonna pun intended ;) ), like the line "I love you more than life itself." (GOD!! What the fuck is that line? However, again, in Madonna's defense, who the hell would sound good trying to say that line?). However, with only a few glitches here and there, like I said, I enjoyed it. Was it the best movie ever? Hell no! Was it a decent rainy night movie? Yeah, it was. I felt the chemistry was there (even though she ended up kissing his feet and fell for him after he was going to rape her...), the acting was decent, the set-up was good, the ending was a shocker and added to the movie, and it was a nice blend of comedy and drama.

I'd probably rate it a 6 or 7 out of ten to tell the truth.

This movie was a mixed bag for me. It started out bad, then got funny and a little entertaining, and the ending was just one of the worst endings ever. Madonna actually wasn't the worst of the actors. Adriano Giannini was a pile of dog shit, and was almost hard to watch.

Overall: 5/10 or C

6/10 I really don't know what was all the bashing about for this movie. I enjoyed it and i laughed and it wasn't a pain to watch. Plus, I already know Madonna couldn't cry so... that wasn't such a disappointment for me. Guy Richie did a good job, i still respect the bastard ;)

Last night I decided to rent Guy Ritchie's Razzie Nominated Swept Away just to see how awful it was. Upon watching it, I was expecting it to be a film that I would have tons of fun making fun of later, as I was certain it was going to be as bad as everybody said. However, I actually didn't mind the film, I kind of enjoyed it. I would have to say that it wouldn't even make my bottom 15 films of the year!

However, that's not to say that it is a good film, because it is not.

What Worked:

Adriano Giannini was actually decent. There were far worse actors this year than he. He had me chuckling and he has pretty darn good screen presence.

The film was beautifully shot, especially the scenes on the island.

The music was great and suited the film quite well.

It was an enjoyable and at times funny (and unintentionally funny) film. The scenes between Madonna and Adriano on the island when they first get stranded were quite funny, especially the whole "Master" thing.

What Did Not Work:

MADONNA! I will give her credit...this is one of her better performances that did suit her, however it does not mean that she can act, because she cannot.

The supporting actors, especially the very talented Jeanne Tripplehorn are sorely underused.

The film was mis-matched. It didn't know if it was a slapstick comedy, an unintentionally funny melodrama, or a verbal sex drama. It was too uneven, and seriously hurt the film.

The writing was pretty laughable in parts, but mostly when Madonna opened her mouth. This was filmed when she had her laughable "British" accent, and it totally did not go with the character.

All in all, Swept Away is not a good film, but nowhere near as bad as everybody said. I confess that I enjoyed it, but enjoyment sometimes doesn't make a film good.. It is however, a mindless rainy day rental.

From hearing all the bad buzz that it was generating, I just had to check it out. I rented it and was just waiting to demolish this movie. But about 30 minutes into I was like hey this is O.K. so far. But, when Madonna and Giannini are now on the island, it just went downhill. I didn't buy the whole master slave thing and the romance between Madonna and Giannini. And...

SPOILERS

When Giannini finally realizes that he and Madonna aren't the lovebirds that he thought and throws the ring in the ocean. That has to be one of the most dissapointing endings ever.

END SPOILERS

Overall half of it was good, half of it was bad...real bad.
