Who do you fellow schmoes enjoy watching in horror films. The best performance I think I've ever seen is the girl who survives in the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I mean when she's getting chased at the end I started to wonder if she was really just acting. Another person I always loved in horror was Donald Pleasance from the Halloween series. I mean without that guy I don't think that series would've ever been as strong as it was. :D

Linda Blair made a great transformation from nice little girl to vicious, nasty she-bitch in The Exorcist.

Donald Pleasance always gave 110%...
Marylin Burns also gave a frighteningly realistic performance.

Stephen Macht in GRAVEYARD SHIFT
Ted Levine in THE MANGLER
David Kagan in FRIDAY THE 13 6: JASON LIVES (Meg's dad)
Macht's performance may have been hammy, but he put a lot of effort into his performance, making it truly sleazy and evil.
Levine is a top actor who made THE MANGLER bearable, with his consistent, gripping performance. I am dead serious on this one.
Kagan epitomized tough, yet human in F13 6, because we cared about him.
My best is a tie, though:
Brad Dourif in EXORCIST 3
OR
Miguel Ferrer as Richard Dees in THE NIGHT FLIER
Both are exemplary in a genre where so many actors fall back on cliches.
OTHER GREAT ONES:
Jeffrey Combs in RE-ANIMATOR
Roddy McDowall in FRIGHT NIGHT

I remember watching a version of TCM on the Independent Film Channel that had running commentary throughout the movie from Tobe Hooper and the guy that played Leatherface ( his name escapes me at the moment), and they said that the scene where they capture Marilyn Burns at the house was filmed nonstop for a 28 period because John Duggan (Grandpa) refused to sit through the makeup session again and they had to shoot him out. They said temperature in the house was like 110-120 degrees. They all said by the end of the shoot they were literally going crazy and not acting, which is why it was so intense and realistic.
