I like the way they put it. Let's hope they don't end up with some sort of west coast/east coast war with Bush. :D

"In A World Gone Mad"

In a world gone mad it?s hard to think right
So much violence hate and spite
Murder going on all day and night
Due time we fight the non-violent fight

Mirrors, smokescreens and lies
It?s not the politicians but their actions I despise
You and Saddam should kick it like back in the day
With the cocaine and Courvoisier
But you build more bombs as you get more bold
As your mid-life crisis war unfolds
All you want to do is take control
Now put that axis of evil bullshit on hold
Citizen rule number 2080
Politicians are shady
So people watch your back 'cause I think they smoke crack
I don?t doubt it look at how they act

In a world gone mad it?s hard to think right
So much violence hate and spite
Murder going on all day and night
Due time we fight the non-violent fight

First the ?War On Terror? now war on Iraq
We?re reaching a point where we can?t turn back
Let?s lose the guns and let?s lose the bombs
And stop the corporate contributions that they're built upon
Well I?ll be sleeping on your speeches ?til I start to snore
?Cause I won?t carry guns for an oil war
As-Salamu alaikum, wa alaikum assalam
Peace to the Middle East peace to Islam
Now don?t get us wrong ?cause we love America
But that?s no reason to get hysterica
They?re layin? on the syrup thick
We ain?t waffles we ain?t havin? it

In a world gone mad it?s hard to think right
So much violence hate and spite
Murder going on all day and night
Due time we fight the non-violent fight

Now how many people must get killed?
For oil families pockets to get filled?
How many oil families get killed?
Not a damn one so what?s the deal?

It?s time to lead the way and de-escalate
Lose the weapons of mass destruction and the hate
Say ooh ah what?s the White House doin??
Oh no! Say, what in tarnation have they got brewing??!!!!???!!
Well I?m not pro Bush and I?m not pro Saddam
We need these fools to remain calm
George Bush you?re looking like Zoolander
Trying to play tough for the camera
What am I on crazy pills? We?ve got to stop it
Get your hand out my grandma?s pocket
We need health care more than going to war
You think it?s democracy they?re fighting for?

In a world gone mad it?s hard to think right
So much violence hate and spite
Murder going on all day and night
Due time we fight the non-violent fight

The song is available for download at beastieboys.com -- that's where I got the lyrics too.

I heard the world premiere of this song on our local radio station. Message is fine.

Song is so bad it's laughable.

Had a feeling it'd be you who said it.

I'm trying to see if it'll grow on me. The line about cocaine and courvossier is my favorite. Easy to imagine....

Mind you fellas it wouldnt be the first time the Beasties have made a laughable song would it? I love them I really do but they have made some garbage in the past...the whole Country Mike project, supposed to be funny but wasnt.

Like Greb said, good message though.

I'm listening to Brass Monkey as we speak. I love The Boys.

But I'm hoping the version I heard was a rough cut, because it really was that bad. Actually, the DJ's weren't even supposed to have it, let alone play it. So maybe they'll spruce it up.

True - Maybe it is the mix. It sounds real grainy.

I'm suprised there isn't more interest in the Beasties.

I heard it early this morning on a community radio station, I thought the station's arial was getting a fix because it was a bit grainy... but seems it is the song itself after downloading it. Interesting, lets hope it wasn't done for artistic merit though.

It was a crappy 2 cents. Ive know 5 year olds who could write a better song.

On a side note as anyone heard Biz Markies Cover of Bennie and the JEts? Now thats a classic :)

Look out Dylan and Cohen! I'm kidding of course. I hope the music has some sort of redeeming quality. Those are horrible lyrics!

Blasphemy! Well, obviously, from my name...I do harbor SOME feelings for the B-Boys. I actually dig the song. I think it's much better than anything i've heard from Eminem, 50 Cent or any other modern mainstream rappers. I always take the Boys with a grain of salt, and the Zoolander line is just hilarious...I hope thats what they were going for. I dig it, I dig them, but take into account my obvious bias.

Just wanted to see what Beastie had to say.

I am VERY optimistic when it comes to these guys. I'm diggin how they told Bush to shove it. Not that I agree, it's just been the best so far. They make these other celebrities look like confused babies.

All they are saying is chill. There are better ways to confront a problem. Destroying something is usually the way around fixing a problem. This country isn't an animal that needs to be put to sleep. It's a disagreement.

But you know, I can't agree or disagree with the message. I'm not in the shoes of the people who need to anihalate someone in order to feel safe.

Go freedom!

Part of me wishes this song does not appear on their forthcoming cd however. It seems to address a current issue, but whats missing is...subtlty? Right now its appropriate but with an expected release date of somewhere in 2004...I don't think I'll be too interested then. Maybe they'll be smart and pull an "Alive" and just leave it off, but who knows. Still dig it though!

I was just thinking, its a far better piece of work than Blur's latest sort of anti war effort... "don't bomb if your the bomb", what a toss that is. At least the Beastie Boys are being direct.

Fucking Blur...bunch of wankers.

I'm on the fence about the beastie's, I'll have to have a listen to this one...but it doesn't LOOK too hot, the lyrics are a bit bloody "basic".

The boys will certainly have to put their arses into gear with the songwriting bit, particularly when they're competing with the likes of Eminem.

The difference though, is that Marshal's disses all come across like topical male angst, whereas the Beasties seem to provide a more lasting, fun-loving take that references classic pop culture. Any reference Eminem makes is so much right here, right now.

Trust me, the sampled bass line from SUPERFLY is going to hold up much longer than obscene references to Christina Agullara. (Who?)

This is unquestionably the most silly sounding, light-hearted anti-war song I've ever heard. I like the Beastie Boys, but if they want me to take their message seriously at all, they'll have to try a lot harder.

Name one Beastie Boys song that isn't light-hearted, or even silly.

Fight For Your Right?
Egg Man?
Shatarak?
Sabotage?
Intergalactic?

Didn't realize war was an issue to be taken light-heartedly, Bubba. ;)

It never occured to me either!

:p

Maybe light-heartedness goes hand-in-hand with passive activism. Not everything has to go down like it did with those poser activists in Seatle. Protesting isn't all about screaming until your neck bulges, and you are sure everyone you are against knows you hate them.

Maybe humor is a better answer....

The song is silly, thus the Zoolander thing. However, I think there are many ways to get a message across. You can be preachy about it, give it straight up or just have some fun with it, well at the same time being serious.

And no serious songs? Have you not heard:
Professor Booty
Boomin' Granny
or
Netty's Girl?

Just joshin' yah.
