How much of a thrill does Salem's Lot give ya when ya first view it?

Not much imo, King's book is far superior in juxtaposition.
It's not terrible by any means, but it is dated, overlong, and goreless, So if you can handle that I say check it out. The main vampire is cool.

I tried watching Salem's Lot many years ago. I couldn't do it though. Didn't have the energy to complete it. Maybe I'll give it another chance one of these days.
btw,
Is Return to Salem's Lot worth bothering with?

Good question, Unfortunately I don't have the answer, does anyone else? Sequels based on King's work that he didn't write are usually bad news..

Personally I liked the sequel better. It had more scares and was less old school(not that that is a bad thing but production qualities were better). I liked the score alot and it had a good story. I havent seen it since I was 16 so my opinion might change next time I see it but as far as I remember it was tres' terrifique.
The original was excellent as well.

I didnt like Salems Lot at all. it sucked mega balls. worthless on all acounts, in fact i liked the somewhat entertaining sequel alot more. the movie is overlong, boring, goreless, and unentertaining.

A question...Can I go and rent Return To Salem's Lot when I haven't seen the first movie but I've read the book? Is the story that much different in the first movie? Please, no spoilers, simple yes or no answer will do.

I have seen Return To Salem's Lot, the beginning was really awful but the last 30 minutes were really okay so I would say average.

I haven't seen the movie, but if you wanna check out good Stephen King adaptions rent The Shining (1980), Carrie, or The Shawshank Redemption.
I read the book though, and it was excellent.

It's been such a long time since I've seen Return to Salems Lot, but I do remember catching it on cinemax in like 1987 when I was 10. I distinctly remember falling helplessly in love with the blonde Vampire girl. She put an aching in my loins that I have never felt since!

Ok, let met just put my two cents..
Salems Lot is a really effective and spooky horror/vampire film. It has loads of atmosphere..plus the main vampires look is haunting and classic. Havent read the book, but the movies excellent.
As for part two...I cant believe some of you guys liked it better than the first. When I saw REturn to Salems Lot, I was OUTRAGED, cause it was just SO BAD. I dont even think it was enjoyable on a cheesiness level. It was just plain bad, the vampires sucked, the acting the fx were all below acceptable standards..but thats just me. Maybe its cause I liked the first one so much, that I was dissapointed in such a huge way.
Space out.

a pun. funny.
Okay...i remember seeing Salem's Lot and thought it was shitty. But I also remember that I saw the MOVIE version and not the miniseries, so it was condensed, leaving alot out. I only know this because I remember my cousin or mother or someone talking about it way back when it ws on TV.
Now, I read that Salem's Lot is tied into THE DARK TOWER boosk kind of like IT and THE STAND are. Before I go ahead and read it..is it? I am focusing on all books that tie into and including THE DARK TOWER books, and want to focus on those first, since I haven't read them.
