Release Date: March 21st, 2003 .

Starring: Cuba Gooding Jr., Horatio Sanz, Will Ferrell, Vivica A. Fox, Artie Lange

Directed by: Mort Nathan

Produced by: Brad Krevoy, Gerhard Schmidt

Written by: Mort Nathan, William Bigelow, Walter Bigelow

Distributor: Artisan Entertainment

The TV spots aren't that funny, but it does look somewhat entertaining. Plus, I think the plot is funny. I remember an episode of Becker where Becker got sent on an all gay cruise. It was pretty funny and actually a neat idea for a movie. However, I doubt BOAT TRIP will do the funny plot justice, but it still might be decent.

There's no doubt it will bomb at the B.O. though. With an R rating and the "gay" angle of the story, I just can't see people flocking to this. Plus, the TV spots just aren't that funny. I think it might open with around 3.5-4 Million.

I doubt I'll see this one in theaters, but I'll give it a rental for sure.

What does everyone else think? (I already know most think it looks horrible ;))

With it's material, "Boat Trip" looks like it could deliver some laughs, but I'll wait for the video to see if I'm right. This is not a movie I want to pay a full-price or matinee admission for.

Well, the R rating and "gay" angle didn't hurt The Birdcage.

Boat Trip looks dreadful, and its cast isn't gonna help it. Cuba Gooding is NOT a box office draw (receipts for Snow Dogs notwithstanding), and Artisan hasn't had a big commercial success in years (if we're not counting Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie).

But who of us can predict the success of lowbrow movies like this? Who here knew Kangaroo Jack would do so well?

"Boat Trip" looks like an okay dumb comedy. I have no interest in seeing it in theatres, but I may rent it one day.

This film doesn't look really terrible. I saw a behind the scenes thing for this, and it could be okay. Will Ferrell is in it, so, that's a plus. I doubt I will see this in the theater. But I will rent it when it comes to DVD.

This looks quite amusing but then again, I ate a lot of paint chips as a child.

This doesn't interest me at all. I can't stand Cuba Gooding Jr. or Horatio Sanz, not to mention the TV spots are very unfunny

Horatio Sanz is an annoying idiot

He's the replacement fat dude on SNL instead of Chris Farly.

Haha! Yeah, they were very addictive. I had to join a 12 step program, thankfully it worked. Although I will admit, I still do have cravings now and then.

I think BOAT TRIP looks dumb, unoriginal, and unrealistic. But I also think it looks funny. I will just sneak into it this Saturday so I don't have to pay. Hopefully it will deliver some big laughs, I love the "How could you think I'm gay?" line from all the TV spots.

Maybe it's me but the poster seems "false advertizing" - ish. "Singles Cruise. Double Trouble." Ummm . . . Did I miss something??? The poster "forgets" the main plot point of the film: The singles cruise is a gay cruise. Whatever . . .

Back to topic: A good "rentable" comedy . . .

I agree, that line is kind of lame. It just doesn't make much sense and doesn't go with the movie. I think they were trying to avoid having the tagline mention anything indicating that it was a gay cruise.

Personally, I liked the original poster better. This poster reminds me of the poster for that one movie called GONE FISHIN'.

I think it looks like a "Scary Movie" type movie that will give lots of laughs. My friends and I are going to see this on Saturday. Dreamcatcher on Friday and a View From The Top Saturday afternoon.

I saw a really awful trailer of it back when I saw Bowling for Columbine. It looks pretty bad, especially since it's on Cuba Gooding's track record (Snow Dogs, Men of Honor, Pearl Harbor).

Count me in...I will definitely be seeing this film, even though odds are pretty darn good that it will be horrible. I live for gleaning the few truly precious humorous moments from terrible movies....they make it all worthwhile. Take, for example, "Snow Dogs." Horrible movie, but I absolutely love it for 2 simple reasons. First, Cuba's "You can't get struck by thunder!" one-liner and second for the absolutely hilarious hijinks of Demon the Dog (as a dog person, that killed me). Another great example would be what is probably THE worst "comedy" of ALL TIME - "Sorority Boys." I cannot think of another movie I have ever seen that was worse than that one, but there were at least 3 times I was laughing so hard I was crying. I just believe you have to dig for the little golden nuggets that are buried in a mound of dreck...for me, it's worth it, and that's why I'll be seeing "Boat Trip."

Despite the negative odds goin against the movie, true yes Cuba Gooding has really sunken low to do this. But hey, it has Vivica A Fox, Roselyn Sanchez as back up. Im booking my date to see this!:D

This movie looks idiotic. Im getting so sick of movies as a gay man that relies on age old and crass gay s terotypes to produce laughs

I'm planing on seeing it in a "double feature" with Dreamcatcher on Friday. I'm not expecting too much, but the R-rating is pretty much the only draw to me...

SPOILERS, AS WITH MOST OF MY SEMI-REVIEWS....

It's not that bad. I saw it tonight with a very hot crowd....that had a bunch of kids under 5 years of age in it...

First, I'd like to say that I'm really into gay humor....and you pretty much have to be to enjoy this flick.

Cuba Gooding looked a bit lost to me....I think he thought this was a romantic-comedy. Sanz was hit or miss, although he killed me with the line, "Let's just say I ate some bad shellfish..." after he went down on a psycho tanning instructor. Roselyn Sanchez is hot(as usual) wearing see-through tops thoughout the movie.....and is okay in her role. I only wish Will Ferrell was in it for longer than 3 minutes....and the fact that he kissed Artie Lange turned off 50% of the crowd...

5/10, an average comedy for most......I'd give it a 6/10 since I'm a fan of gay jokes...

I'm surprised something like this is even getting a larger (relatively) release. Just from the trailers and the little information I've read about it, it sounds like the exact OPPOSITE of what I look for in comedies.

I'm definitely not an elitist when it comes to comedy. Hell I loved "Old School", not exactly the height of highbrow right there. But when something like "Boat Trip" comes out, something that doesn't even try to have a clever set-up or anything more then your traditional gross-out/sex jokes, which I have to admit I am starting to get really sick of myself, I just have to shake my head.

So suffice it to say, I will not be seeing this any time soon.

SPOILERS CONTAINED IN THIS MESSAGE!
B4 I start getting into which was worse? Boat Trip or Speed 2 Crusie Control? I have seen movies labeled bad! VERY BAD! Stay away at all costs!!! I went anyway cause like I said in my post, if the movie majorly wreakes at least seeing Roselyn Sanchez & Vivica A Fox would have been back up alternatives to fall back on. And seeing Cuba Gooding play gay was a factor in seeing the movie.

Positive:

Roger Moore playing gay? OMG! watching him as James Bond? Oh the horror. Well this is something new for Mr Moore to do. He keeps flirting w/ Sanz in the movie.

Roselyn Sanchez, she pretty much kept me interested in this movie. :D

The very short cameo of Will Farell & Artie Lang at the Travel Agency were well, Amusing when u find out their secret.

U will go Ya Ya over Victoria Silvestedt

Negative:
Sorry but Horatio Sanz may be amusing in SNL but he is obviously the weak link in the movie. And Gooding camping it up as a gay man may be a ha here and a ha there, I think someone like Chris Tucker would have added the spice needed to up the pacing of the movie. I would have prefered to have Lange instead of Sanz.

Vivca I love ya girl butyour character is P.U....OK she leaves Gooding but eventually runs back to him? Also, how did Fox find Gooding so fast?!?!
I did laugh here and there but when its you and 4 other people in a big auditorium it doesnt up the spirits of a very bad movie. 3/10

It seems to me that Cuba Gooding Jr. + comedy = overacting

I see my fair share of movies and although I know when a comedy is gonna be stupid and brainless, i'll probably go along and see it, and Boat Trip looks like one of those stupid, but funny comedies. Cuba Gooding Jr hasn't done much of value lately, but he looks alright in this role, that line "How can you think i'm gay?!" had me laughing from the adds. Roselyn Sanchez is a major hottie so I won't mind seeing her in all sorts of scantily clad attire. When this heads down under, I'll be giving it a shot.

I hope this film bombs at the box office...Horatio Sanz is one of the least funny people workiing currently in the entertainment business. I just find the plot so offensive to gays (and I'm not even gay!). Just sounds like bad, bad comedy.

Heres a decent example of a movie that everyone starts labeling as a "bad" film, without having seen it.

I saw this one the other day and all I can say is this film was VERY funny!

It has some really funny stuff involving Cuba Gooding Jr. acting as a gay person just so Roselyn Sanchez character feels comfortable around him.:D

One scene involving Roselyn Sancheez showing Cuba how to do a blow job with a banana was hilarious! This scene has to be seen to be believed.

Yes its yet another romantic comedy. But its over the top comedy moments, Roselyn Sanchez hot bod, and its "straight men get on a gay cruise ship by mistake" premise are what help this one stand out.

A good film if you wanna really laugh a while.

For a film that bombed so badly and got scathing reviews, this thread is very high up on the front page! Maybe secretly people LOVE it. "movies35", when you say 3/10, do you REALLY mean 10/10? ;)
