very stylish and relentless. I loved it. It had the best set design for a horror movie in a LONG time.

Yes, Sleepy Hollow is now my favorite adaptation of Washington Irving's story. It's wonderfully reminiscent of those great Hammer & AIP films of the '50's-'70's.

2 thumbs WAY up. how 'bout mr. christopher walken as the headless horseman w/. a head? he was so freakin awesome! a movie w./ johnny depp AND christopher walken cant be bad. this is the best version of the story i have ever seen cuz its so original. instead of some rehash of the story they added new things to spice it up. i wish all movie makers were this dedicated. this is one of my favorite modern horror flicks.

I'm with the consensus on this one, beautifully shot and directed, this gory and stylish entry is easily the best adaptation of Irving's story.

I really liked Sleepy Hollow too. Christopher Walken and Johnny Depp kick serious ass.

Oh, and anything Tim Burton makes is good, with the exception of Pee Wee's Big Adventure.

another great from tim burton, i've only been disappointed by him once, which was obviously the P.O.S. planet of the apes remake. but all his other stuff i have seen were excellent.

A masterpiece. Went to see it in the cinema and was so glad I did. The cinematography was totally stunning. Depp and Walken were fantastic as were the supporing cast. Ricci looked beautiful despite having a forehead you could project the movie itself onto. I especially loved the fact that Ichabod despite being the hero of the movie was basically a coward. The scene where he pushes the boy into the witches cave ahead of himself as he quivers with fear was fucking hilarious. I just pray that after the major misstep that was Planet Of The Apes, Burton's next movie sees a return to the kind of form he displayed on Sleepy Hollow. 4.5/5

I guess I'll have to go against popular opinion and say that I don't like Tim Burton. The only movies he did that I actually liked was Beetlejuice and A Nightmare Before Christmas. I used to respect him as a director and all but lost all respect for him a few years back. I won't go into why. All that said, SLEEPY HOLLOW, to me, had such a great potential to be an awesome movie, but when my girlfriend and I went to go see it, I was SOOOOO disappointed. At first I was happy with the way they made Crane a forensic expert before his time. Yeah, it strayed from the school teacher bit, but it made sense for this "re-imagining" (one reason I lost respect for him, he always thinks he needs to "reimagine" everything). And I loved Ray Park's Headless Horseman. The choreography was incredible. Especially the fight between Casper Van Dien, Ichabod, and the HH. but then

****SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILER******

it gets to the end. The whole witch's conspiracy/cult/revenge thing I found lame. And the ending really strayed from the story. Wasn't Ichabod supposed to turn up missing in the end? If I remember he film (which I haven't seen since it was in theatres), this didn't happen. And although I admit that using Christopher Walken's face for the head of the HH was cool, I knew that those of my friends that fall into the whole goth thing would love this film. Sure enough I was right, because when I asked them why they liked it all they could say was "Christopher Walken in a Tim Burton film? What isn't to like?" I wish they could have a better, more original statement than that. I guess that's it.

i didnt mind the rethinkin bit. if they had ended this with the played out bridge endin i would have been pissed. by now we all know the story and sleepy hollow is a nice little knuckleball. christopher walken is GOD!!! im sorry. couldnt control myself. depp and walken need to do another movie together. just seein them together on screen is enough to justify the 8.50 ticket price. too bad they couldnt have worked him into from hell, another great flick. now THAT would have been kewl!

walken is god!!!
shame he wasn't in more of the film.
not a horror flick but if any of you schmoes who love walken haven't seen "suicide kings"you are really missing out!!!

foxgate,i kinda agree about the ending.but i don't think it should've ended the way the original story does.but i did see who the real villian was a mile away.

i still loved it tho.

Perhaps the most amazing looking movie ever made. I could watch Ichabod's journey to sleepy hollow over and over and over again!

***SPOILERS***

I thought this movie was pretty good.....up until the villian is revealed at the end.
It wouldn`t have been so bad if he/she didn`t crack jokes and act funny. That ruined it, and didn`t gel with the rest of the movie IMO.

Great cast, though Jeffery Jones was wasted (he had like, two lines in the whole movie), and Christina Ricci is better as a brunette.

Overall I`d say this is a pretty good movie, but not among Burton`s best.

P.S. - I couldn`t believe they killed the little boy, this is a major studio big-budget movie after all!

Its an excellent film from an excellent director.
I guess this is his best film in my book. He sort of like took all his experince in his other films and just poored it all into this one. Its just so moody and atmosphiric that its hard for any horror loving schmoe NOT to like this brilliantly shot and directed film.

Its got all the Burton trade marks...the dude somehow manages to put scarecrows in all of his movies..heh. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Add to that Jhonny Depps masterfull performance and Christina Ricci looking as haunting as she ever did in The Addams Family and you got yourself a perfect horror movie thats an A+ on Spacemonkeys book.

Well Im outta here...checks you all out later..

Don't get me wrong...I enjoy Walken greatly. SUICIDE KINGS is one of the first movies I bought on DVD and I make it a point to see a movie with Walken in it, just as I do Jason Lee, Russel Crowe, etc. I just don't think that just because he is in a movie means it's good.

I wasn't saying that It had to end the same way as the book exactly...I just like the ending where Crane disappears and no one knows what happens to him. Overall this movie gets a 6/10 out of me.

Sound like your just upset cause it didnt turn out like the book. I guess if thats what your saying it would make sense, because i remember after having read Jurassic Park the lost world, and seeing the film, I was devastated.

But If you just see as a movie, with out taking the fact that you read the book into consideration, well did you like the film for itself? Cause I dont think its good, JUst cause Christopher Walkens in it, though that is a plus in MY book. I just love the whole look and feel of this film. The spooky mist, the old creaky trees, the haunted forest, the look of the headless horseman, the "conspiracy", and lets face it Jhonny Depp did a heck of a good job acting in this one. That cant be denied. He was perfect as Ichabod Crane. Zany, Intelligent and vulnerable at the same time.

Come on Foxgate maybe you should see it again..you said you saw it on its first release in theaters and havent seen it since? Thats way too long, heh, give it another look, and let me know what you think then...but thats just me dude, I respect your point of view.

Hey, all's cool. I can't understand why people dislike THE DEAD HATE THE LIVING, but that's the beauty of being an individual. We're not all lemmings (well, except for the majority of the Abercrombie crowd). I will admit that SH had some of the best settings and beautiful cinematography I ever saw (up until Lord of the Rings). And Johnny Depp is one of my favorite actors (come on, he looks different in, like, every movie he has ever been in). And I really enjoyed the movie up until the whole conspiracy thing came to light. And that says a lot since I have a natural dislike of Tim Burton. And I liked that they strayed from the book in making Crane a forensic specialist as opposed to school teacher. But I will take you advice and rent SLEEPY HOLLOW again and see if I like it better the second time around. There are some movies where I do initially hate them, then like them the second time. THE MUMMY was one of these films. But, yeah, that's all on my part. LOL!

Foxgate – Actually, I think the term “Idealization” should replace “re-imagining.”
Idealization point: artists represent beauty not as it is but as they think it should be.
I think that you shouldn’t lose respect for him because he is actually using a type of art that many Greek, Roman and Renaissance artist have used before our time.

Anyway, I thought that this film was excellent. I cannot say enough about the gloomy atmosphere. I think it captures the dark religious and pre-scientific times very well. I thought Johnny Depp’s performance was outstanding. I cannot deny how good Christina Ricci looked (I have a thing for pale girls). Christopher Walken, enough said.
